I think alot of the problem is the accessibility .. especially solo..it sucks when you to into comp by yourself and you come out of the game with a 2.0 KD and the rest of your team doesn't break even and you lose so no progress.. players want a goal to meet and not making any progress cause of bad match ups ddossers or whatever is not a good grind..
I was thinking a win could you 100 points so great teams at least play 52 games to get NF.. and losses is always 20 points and if you actually play the objective or every point of KD is and extra 10 points , so if you lose with a 1.1 KD you get 30 points .. a loss with 2.1 would be 40 points and cap it at fifty for losses .. maybe something like that so players are making progress always but losses are significantly slower at meeting the goal and good solo players aren't punished for bad teammates ..

I was thinking something similar (as a solo player).... my thoughts on competitive.... 1. Lock out all guns, give a choice of 3 for each slot and then its skill vs skill no advantages.... it will be COMPETITIVE :p haha 2. I feel you pain... Im not so good... but when I do have a good game and still loose, it sucks... how about yes... you loose points for loosing but if you are the top player you loose nothing (meaning that you will always be competing with your teammates to come 1st on the loosing side.... but it would give you something to aim for if some idiot quits your team and gives you no chance of winning.... it would be a chance to try and not "loose" anything.....

That would be cool I think right now players wanna feel they are making progress and if you keep losing your actually losing progress and that seriously is no fun .. I have Luna I've gotten to 3500 and that's as far as I got .. I don't want not forgotten for the perks for pvp I want it cause it's cool model of handcannon .. I don't play enough crucible..but I'd use it in pve .. even tho wardens law is my go to

I suggested that Bungie should create a long new quest line for a Luna/NF clone with a different name (Luna's Growl / Wail, Not Forgiven were suggested by others) to differentiate them from Comp trophies -- this follows the current Redrix implementation. The new clone quest rewards would have curated and random-roll versions dropping from legendary engrams. Some random roll versions could conceivably supersede existing Luna/NF versions (High Caliber Rounds, Range Finder, Explosive Payload, etc), giving all players incentive to farm crucible and increase PVP participation. :D

This would give us more weapon variety at the same time.

My only concern with that is a season or two down the line we see literally everyone using NF on console. My favorite idea honestly is to buff other hand cannons to at least give people a reason to use say a 140 over a 180 on console. Right now a 140ntakes 3 crits to kill, but has significantly more recoil than a 180 which, in the case of Luna's, also takes 3 shots to kill. The range advantage of a 140 doesn't matter a tremendous amount with the maps we have.
