A Hypothetical

So say you’re in the Tower admiring a new shipment of Tex Mechanica that Banshee had just gotten delivered when suddenly a ship you’ve never seen before bearing the Spider’s symbol on it’s wing flies by, making it’s way towards the Hanger. Soon after, you hear whispers of a freshly resurrected Guardian having arrived. Back in the day, this kind of news wouldn’t spark too much gossip, but ever since the enormous loss of Guardians during the Red War, any new face in the Tower will defiantly grab it’s people’s attention. You hear that this particular Guardian is a Hunter, a class who at the current moment has no Vanguard to guide it. You figure you might as well show the new kid the ropes, Cayde would’ve likely tried to pass the responsibility on to you some way or another, so might as well do him one last favor. As you enter the Hanger, Holliday marches past you with a furious look on her face. You ask her where she’s headed for, but she completely ignores you. In the time you’ve known her, nothing has been able to ruffle her feathers, and you can’t think of anything that could get her so worked up, but then you see him. An Awoken man with Crow black hair, his Warbeast scale armor still soaked in taken muck, standing near a banged up jumpship with a Ghost hovering just above his open palm. Uldren Sov, the Guardian. How would you feel if Uldren was resurrected by a Ghost? Would you still be angry at him? At the Ghost for resurrecting him? In the case of Savin, an Awoken Guardian who Uldren himself caught and brought back to the Reef, he was reported to be nothing like his former self, save for physical appearance. Meaning when an individual is chosen by a Ghost and reforged in the Light, they stop being the person they were in their first life. Would a resurrected Uldren still be responsible for the sins his first self committed? If so, wouldn’t every Guardian be? How do you think the people of the Tower would take this? It would undoubtably be controversial, having a Guardian killer brought back as a Guardian. Ikora would probably lose her temper when presented with Cayde’s killer, and I imagine that could get ugly. I’d like to think Zavala would approach the situation levelheadedly, seeing as how he didn’t want the Guardians seeking revenge, but there’s a huge difference between starting a war in a foreign land and having the person who killed your close friend showing up on your doorstep. Personally, I think it’s an interesting toping, and the idea of being made into an entirely other person isn’t brought up in the lore all too much, but there are a lot of implications to that. Especially the question if who you were was a terrible person, then what does that mean for the person you’ve become?

  • This is why Guardians aren't supposed to go searching for their past. When a Guardian is reborn it's supposed to be a clean slate, and the beginning of a new life. Uldren (or Crow probably) will be accepted. A second chance, and might become Hunter Vanguard because he did kill the previous Hunter Vanguard which is one of the Vanguard Dare stipulations.

    • It will always amaze me how the game can have such incredible lore and yet have an actual story that's as limp as a noodle.

    • Steam-Maiden would spend an eternity just shooting him in the face, waiting for him to be revived and shooting him in the face again.

I would have shot the ghost, see how he likes it
i literally would not care even if he had no memory of his life. I would put him back in the ground for good. Light a purple candle for him if you care more about him than Cayde.
Uldren wouldn't be Uldren since newly formed guardians have no memory of their lives prior to their first resurrection. It would be easy for him to find out who he is and what he's done by just going to the reef. If forbidden, he would question why and eventually go out there anyways possibly meeting Petra and all the Awoken he betrayed. He would not be able to escape consequences even if he's "a new person". The difference between us and him is how much time has gone by. We may have been terrible centuries ago but what once was no longer exists. Literally a fresh start in a new (destroyed) world

      • Bungie should go with that. It's a great idea to evolve the story. It could split the vanguard or maybe bring them together again. Either way great thought bro!
