I 100% agree with you. I didnt mind the hopeful light hearted story. After all of the dark zombie and disease related games out there I was really happy to play a game where my goal was to be a kick ass guardian trying to rebuild earth and save humanity (would like to see some changes in the game world that reflects what we have done!) What they did to Cayde really made me mad. They took the most loved character with the absolute more tragic life story, and killed him in the most tragic way. It still makes me mad. He loses his light, fine, gets hit hard, fine, gets shot with his own gun dedicated to his son (whether he is real or not it's the symbolism) while he was down and unable to fight. Not only that but killed by the one person he really didnt want to be killed by. If anyone really hated cayde for his humor you clearly need to read his lore, he's not being funny because he is funny, he's trying not to be miserable or upset because honestly his life was crappy! His memories gone, watched his friends die one by one, doesnt know his past. Imagine going through that! His strength was amazing and it wasnt that apparent until we really learned about him. When I play the game, I hate going to the tower, its empty, it's not nice there and the characters there dont interest me. The music is depressing there to boot because honestly I felt like I lost a friend (i get the same feeling when a character in a book dies). Cayde was as a collection of pixels the most human character ever. My hope is they bring him back somehow. Maybe his human body is in stasis or stored. Maybe a ghost will find him. But I doubt he would be the same! But it would be nice to grow that friendship again with a character. There is no character development in the game save for Petra. Zavala is the same as he has always been, distant and hoity toity, and Ikora just kind of got mad and that was it and she's mostly back the normal. That's not development it's just a minor reaction. I also wanted a real funeral scene too where you really hear and see what people are feeling. Amanda was the closest. Everyone else was 'death happens move on'. I cant really move on. I still enjoy the game play but they need to involve more characters to fill the void or else people will leave and its already happening. Tl;dr: I miss Cayde, I wish he never died, I felt it was unfair. Can we find original 'cayde'? that would be very interesting and a twist. The tower is empty and everyone there is useless.

Lets not bring Cayde back. Everyone acts like he was a character with some real depth or whatever but let’s be honest, no he wasn’t. He was practically an overused bumbling clown in a hood. His final moments were some of his best. RIP Cayde and let that be the last of him.

I mean, he is still in the campaign, there’s some patrols you can do on old planets with him, his strikes are still there, it’s just he isn’t giving out that one weekly engram anymore

There is no way of bringing him back. He’s dead. No Ghost means no life. He’s gone. Live with it. Every other character in the game is better than him. The game didn’t take a loss by taking him out. Goodbye.

I always liked Cayde but he was basically there for comedic relief. But i hope they bring in a new funny character if Cayde stays dead

You know whats odd? I never cared much for Caydes persona as voiced by Nathan, but Nolans character in Forsaken was more likeable for me. He was a little more goofy, and seemed more happy.
