Is anyone else just plan tired of all the jumping puzzles in Destiny 2? I have had enough of them. It almost seems that when Bungie can't come up with something unique or new, we get some or another jumping puzzle? For whisper it was ok, made sense, to do it big time once. But not over and over and over. Really, if I wanted to play a platformer game, I would. But Destiny is a First Person Shooter... or it used to be, right? Enough with the blasted jump puzzles! For example, does every ascendant challenge have to be a jumping puzzle more than a combat challenge, no, enough is enough.
Edit... This topic has really hit a nerve... over 500 posts!

Edited by Northern: 10/5/2018 7:47:26 AMIt's tedious, very tedious.

2 RepliesWow, could not agree more. Same with the stupid puzzle mechanics in the raid. This game is going more and more away from a FPS to something I can’t even figure out. I managed to get to this weeks Dreaming City ascendant mission but was a bit under light level to finish it. At times it feels like we’re playing Mirror’s Edge.

The Ascendant Challenges are basically end game for solo players, so IMO it makes sense to have platforming in those instead of difficult battles. I main a Warlock and the jumping is so much better in D2 than D1 that I'm fine with it.

4 RepliesNotwitstanding the fact that first person view and precise jumping are a bad combination in any game I don't understand Bungie's fascination with them given how poorly jumping, climbing, grabbing and movement in general is implemented in Destiny (Yes Felwinters Peak and your bouncy physics I'm looking at you). Finishing that was a victory over a poor control scheme, not solving a difficult jumping problem. My guardian should be able to climb straight up a wall, cling to a rock outcrop, jump, glide re-jump and do other agile things in the air. Heck they should even be able to step over small rocks without me needing to jump. Instead we get this very floaty, imprecise, limited jumping behavior. I can't think of one single puzzle that has added to the game experiance vs just being annoying (either because you can get through it and have to wait as teammates fall, or you fall). Not that I mind jumping around, just my guardian should be able to hit a wall or ledge or platform and grab it much more reliably than current grabbing mechanics allow instead of cannoning off or falling past a rock inches away. On the other hand this week's ascendent jumping puzzle has an easy route for all classes using supers or class abilities that negates the need to jump more than twice. Heck a hunter you don't even jump, you just walk off, fall, walk off again and use a super. And Titan as always is even easier.

If I wanted jumping puzzles I'd be playing a platform style game.

Yeah the ascendant challenges are becoming very tedious very quickly, this weeks was the worst by far.

2 RepliesI don't mind jumping puzzles but I do think there are too many of them. Then again, I'm pretty bad at jumping puzzles which I'm sure is biasing my pov. Technically this week we didn't get a jumping puzzle, it was more of a falling puzzle. They should have called it the Descendant Challenge, amirite?!
why do we fall, Bruce?
Certainly the one's in the raids yes! It get's really old really fast when you have an otherwise great player who just happens to be bad at jumping puzzles and they constantly miss a jump or fall off a precision ledge etc. etc. I know some players who can carry you through an encounter almost solo yet can't do jumping puzzles to save their lives. At the very least don't have the deaths there count towards a flawless run

Yes, I never liked Mario, still don't like it

I absolutely loathe them, I don’t do any activity that has them

I hate jumping puzzles.

1 ReplyThe jumping puzzles and the raid mechanics are a huge turn off for me. It makes me feel like playing a Nintendo64 Zelda game or smth. I mean those were great games, but this is not what I expect when playing a looter shooter like Destiny. I believe they simply don't have any other concept of making content challenging, apart from bullet sponges and ground stomp. The encounter/enemy design people at Bungie seem to be the most uninspired people in the company, right after the armor designers.

I wouldn't mind as much if the jumping mechanic was more consistent, but putting platforming sections in virtually every activity and having sloppy player control kinda sucks. Hunters in particular tend to slide around a lot when they land, and the lack of in-air movement control/correction makes having to jump around on small platforms annoying. (And the "wall bump" mechanic sending players flying backwards, e.g. the Felwinter's Peak climb from D1, is just unnecessary - I'd rather take damage from banging my head on a wall/ceiling than get shoved off the map constantly.) Same principal applies to the boss "stomp" mechanic (and Taken Phalanxes in general) and the number of bosses/Strike sections on floating platforms - how is the entire Destiny universe situated on small pieces of collapsed structures a hundred feet in the air and surrounded by bottomless pits? D1 felt like it had a lot more flat ground and interior locations, and D2 relies heavily on the Architects being an enemy themselves.

I’ve always hated the jumping in Destiny, I can jump from rock to rock no problem, but when it has to count, instant fail every time.

28 Replies100% agree I friggin HATE the jumping puzzles. Yes I am a casual player, yes I am older (41), and yes my hand/eye twitch coordination may not be the best it once was. I enjoy playing Destiny, but I do NOT enjoy those damn jumping puzzles at all. I have tried the Ascendant challenges each week. After about 30 minutes of sheer frustration I give up and move on to something else. When you take my diminished reaction time and add the bad lighting, shadows and murkiness of the ascendant plane it just makes those challenges almost impossible for me. I am not downing those who like them or asking for them to be removed, but I personally do not care for them and wish there were alternatives. For example - Take the whisper of the worm challenge. Give 2 paths to reach the end boss. You can either fight your way through many levels of enemies and mini bosses to finally reach the end boss. OR You can take the jump puzzle and bypass a lot of the fights with enemies to get to the end result. I dont mind a good challenge, and I dont mind a decent grind. But when my body is limiting my ability to play a game it becomes frustrating for me. "Well go play something else!" This argument would be more valid if Destiny were a platforming game. It is a first person shooter. Platforming and jumping puzzles should be an option not a requirement per se. This would be akin to playing Forza and midway through the campaign being given a challenge to fly a kite properly. If you can you get a chance for a new lambo model with upgraded specs.... I don't play Forza to fly a kite. I play it to race cars. "It's called a challenge for a reason. To challenge you!" Yes, I understand that, and that's also why I am not asking for them to be removed or downing on those who like to do them. I am agreeing with the OP that thus far each Ascendant Challenge has been a jumping puzzle. I just think they should offer more than one way to complete those challenges. Give those of us who have more difficulty with it an alternative choice, dont limit our gameplay. TLDR - I am an over 40 gamer that has lost their reaction time for twitch jumping puzzles over the years (carpal tunnel, decline in visual acuity). These challenges are more difficult and more frustrating for me than for others. Not asking for removal, but an alternative option would be nice to have.

I honestly don't mind them. I don't how people struggled with the jumping puzzles like the ones in vog and kings fall. They're are literally the same thing every time.

8 RepliesEdited by DeathPony07: 10/5/2018 2:25:53 PMJumping puzzles. A serious lack of special and heavy ammo drops for the amount of strong enemies in Gambit. Slower ability cooldowns in Gambit. At least it feels like it. Invasion ruined Gambit before it even launched, and it's done nothing but create more nerf babies. Gambit should be 6v6. The Clan XP milestone should go back to the way it was before. All powerful loot drops should be the same, not have multiple tiers. Every single -blam!-ing boss has the knock back death stomp. Endless level grinding, when we should be grinding for rare gear instead. Idiotic changes to infusion to throttle progression even more. No cross-class infusion like in D1. Rockets still only have one rocket magazines. Why? Quests requiring PvP cancer. There should be an option to play either PvE or PvP. Elitist neckbeards/no lifers ruining the game for regular players. More ridiculous raid mechanics that make it impossible for Sherpas to help new players through the raid. No guaranteed strike specific loot or skeleton keys. No high level faction packages when we level up. No farming of gear or faction rep, like in D1. Patrols, public events, strikes, bounties, all gave Vanguard and faction reputation. No activities to farm powerful gear, like Archon Forge. Ability cooldowns are still slow as -blam!- compared to D1. Even with mods. Why? Stormtrance is still completely useless in PvE. Multiple armor sets are still required because mods aren't interchangeable. Intellect Discipline Strength was a way better system than what we have now. Ability cooldowns were way faster too. Mobility Armor Recovery adjustments belong in the skill tree. Not on armor. Skill trees still have no customization, like in D1. Most shaders are ugly. Most armor sets are ugly. Snipers aren't even worth using in PvE, because they don't penetrate enemy shields for crits like they did in D1. Some of the new subclasses are extremely underwhelming. Arc Hunter, Solar Titan. Why would I use Burning Maul, when I can use Melting Point and do more damage? Stop catering to the elitist 1% and alienating the majority of your player base. Normal and solo players.

Destiny is not and has never been a boots on the ground style shooter. Go play some old Cod games if that's what you are looking for.
-
Nah it's not too bad.
-
Didnt you know..... Bungie were bought out by nintendo and they are slowly turning destiny into mario.
-
Me? Nope. Not yet. But I also consider myself pretty good at them so maybe that's why I tend to like them. I also got better when I upgraded my TV so that things were clearer in places like the ascendant plane. Maybe it's the added screen size, maybe it's the HDR, or maybe it's the 4k... idk, but everything seems easier than when I was using a 1080p tv.

Edited by Jaybee4920: 10/5/2018 7:57:24 PMWell I can't take you seriously when you spell "plain" wrong. 😊

1 ReplyWhy do people keep using the word “puzzle”? Like it’s a confusing challenge to jump from one rock to the next.

Why... ...so ...serious...?

3 RepliesI’m just plan tired of spelling errors.
