Stop complaing about how you cant find someone to teach you the raids!

Lately I have seen about a dozen posts with people complaining how they can not find someone to teach them how to do the raid. Do people not realize that almost everyone who completes it within the first month of the raid coming out does it with people who haven't completed it as well? People who just want 5 other players to sit and use hours of time to teach you are more rude than people who don't want to teach. (Before anyone wants to call me rude, heartless or just mean, know that I have close to 100 sherpas and have helped countless people) I have 3 options for people who haven't completed a raid but want to. 1. Watch a YouTube video on how to beat the raid. Literally, watch an hours worth of videos on each encounter's mechanics and what to before even going into the raid. Some things are confusing yes, but watch someone else's explanation and see if they explain it better. Going into a raid and wiping time after time because you literally don't know which direction is up or down is not fun for anyone. 2. Make your own post. Make a post saying you haven't beaten the raid and want to attempt it with other newbs as well. Make them watch videos of what to do too. Also, throw in the post that you would love to have a sherpa, and you will be surprised how someone may be willing to teach. 3. Go into the raid with your team and use every tool available to beat it. Learn what weapons are the best to use from videos, what strats work for the character composition your text has, and know when it is time to kick somebody from the group. Some people physically can not survive with the amount of adds due to there lack of ability to stay alive while doing their job. Some people just aren't cut out to be a contribution while doing a raid and having to be carried and always given the easiest job just makes it hard to do and they may only complete with 5 people who can make up for them. Don't ever assume someone deserves to be carried because in a teamwork based game, people shouldn't assume they deserve to be carried. In essence, there is always things to try in you haven't completed a raid. Complaining that no one will teach you is the reason is just not the answer because there are hundreds of YouTube videos that will teach you just as well as someone in the raid will.

  • 4. Join a clan that has members that regularly runs raids and teaches. I think a lot of times I see people complain about not having people to teach them, many of them are in inactive clans or are solo, so their usual course of action is to use LFG or guided games and end up having a bad time. I think joining an active clan, one that uses 3rd party communications apps like discord/band/line and others where members can interact, arrange raid schedules, is a better long term way to go if people want to raid, and want to raid regularly or at least participate in group activities on a regular basis.

There’s a good amount of elitism in endgame content that I haven’t seen since the launch of WOTM. Trust me I get that it can be annoying to have someone who doesn’t know what to do when all you want to do is finish it as quickly as possible and go home, but not even giving people a cent of you’re time to help them out a bit on parts they don’t fully understand or don’t even understand completely and instead give them the boot is ridiculous. Now I agree with you about the fact that you should watch a video or something before hopping in so you have somewhat of an idea and aren’t starting from scratch on each encounter, but I’ve been on both sides of the situation whether I need to be taught or I’m doing the teaching and it’s no fun for anyone if we have to run through the raid with the mentality that you have to know everything in and out and can’t mess up otherwise you’re out, no matter if it’s your 100th attempt or first. It’s rude to not help people or explain something they don’t understand and it’s not rude for them to be asked to be taught or to have it explained to them. This brings in the same paradox to finding your first job; in order to get a job you need experience, but in order to get experience you need a job. Point is it’s ridiculous to expect people to be perfect and know everything when they haven’t done it before and even more ridiculous to think of people who want to be taught or need to be helped as more rude then the type of elitism that’s plaguing the community. We’re a community, we’re supposed to help each other out and come together not drive each other apart.

        • agree to everything here and I personally have always done the raids Blind on Day one...Apart for SOS real life took over so didnt do that for ages and even then found ppl in the clan who had not done it and still went in sort of blind and had fun...that is the fun of a raid...wiping, cursing, working out, winning I cant imagine being the 6th person in a raid doing hardly anything and completing it and wondering.."what did I do?" Also have taken a lot of people through the raids a lot more in D1 tbh but thats a personal thing I dont have as much game time now so Id rather play with friends then new people but thats up to me :)

        • Well, considering the generation of gamers that are hardcore at doing raid content in any game like Destiny 2 expect and even demand you know what to do before you actually do it, if you don't, you get kicked and replaced. Hence why people are asking, i mean i agree with you, learn as you do it, but players now-a-days just want quick and easy competions, if they don't get that, they cry and replace you or just leave if they do not have access to replacing players.

          • I used to get a bunch of raid noobs together and run them through a section of the raid at a time. I haven’t been able to do it with D2 however, 2 small kids so not a lot of free time. Sherpas are a vital part of the community.

            • You know if it's your first time running something it kinda ruins the experience if you watch the entire raid on youtube beforehand. People just need to find groups who are welcoming noobs. Do not try to join a group of experienced players trying to get it done quick. Find sherpas, post for sherpas, hell make a group for inexperienced players and try it out blind. There is some fun to figuring out the raids for yourself.

                  • There is a ridiculous easy solution to this dilemma: Drop the clan requirement in guided games and have sherpas able to guide and teach a team . Problem solved. You only need ONE guide, and not 5

The truth of the matter is if you waited until a year after the game came out to start doing raids that's on you. Most people that raid have been doing them since they came out and went through a lot of trial and error, learning, teaching, etc in that first month after the raid came out. It doesn't make you a bad person to not want to go through that again a year later because some people chose not to start until now. They can do it like the rest of us in groups together learning the raids and lairs. If they find an experienced person or team willing to sherpa good for them that's awesome but they are NOT entitled to it.

                          • I watch fifteen minutes or less of videos to learn the raid. It doesn't take hours of research. Shoot here, run here, etc. It's not that hard.

                              • Here’s the thing about YouTube tutorials and raids, on paper everyone who watches the video should be able to do a raid, but speaking as someone who’s been a Sherpa since D1, that isn’t the reality of the situation, some players completely understand how it works from a video, that’s great makes teaching easier, while others claim to understand but in reality don’t, you have to understand that not every player is the same, there are some who learn by watching, some who learn by doing and some who learn by both. And not trying to throw shade at certain youtubers but their raid guides are absolute garbage, so if you have someone on your team who watched their video, there’s bound to be -blam!- ups. Another problem I have with this post, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with asking, most of us at one point or another have been that person who needs the explanation, if everyone shared that whole mentality of it being rude, then there’s quite a few people who wouldn’t have a single raid completion. From personal experience I find the issues arise when the person you’re trying to teach says something like “but the YouTube video said to do this, or the guide I read said to do that” really those guides are an outline, players tend to find better, more efficient or easier ways to do the encounters and questioning their methods without even giving it a shot is what I find rude. But that’s just by two cents.

I have taught thousands. Quite literally. Thousands. I chuckle when a blue random says "But I have watched several Youtube videos." I tell them to forget anything they watched so that I do not have to overcome their bad habits learned therein.

                                    • I had this debate before. Watching YouTube only get you so far. When you’re in a raid with 5 other players. You may have a different role then what the YouTube display or present. Some people learn better by doing. You get a different feel for it then when you watch a video.

                                          • The problem with these people isn't that no-one has taught them the raid, the problem if I'm being honest is that they're not very good at the game. I've taught people on probably near every raid run I've done, some get it right away and perform exceedingly, others still can't do it after hours of attempts. Some people just aren;t good enough to complete the raid.

the game should explain everything in tutorials, help texts , objective markers and practice modes , if it doesn't its only the designs fault , never the players fault for nor understanding something that isn't explained
