if you played Destiny 1 then you would know that Zavala is against Rasputin, because he is scared of him. He sent multiple fireteams to rasputins bunker on Earth, but he killed them all. No wonder.

I came along at TTK bundle and played it all; but D1 story gets scrapped and rewrote in D2 all the time

No its not scrapped, the D1 story is cannon. The talk about oryx, they talk about Rasputins bunker on earth, they talk about a lot of stuff, so its obviously still relevant
