What you need to understand about the livestream cancelation

So I’m seeing a lot of misinformed opinionated posts about the news. For those who do not know what I’m referring to: the bungie livestream for curse of Osiris today was cancelled. Instead bungie will be making a large blog post on their website/app. So you are all entitled to your own opinions on the matter. However, I feel it’s important you guys understand what’s happening. Today was going to be another typical livestream showing off some armor and weapons and new changes. Lately though public discontent with the state of destiny 2 is at an all time high. Many complaints about the game are surfacing. So instead of the fashion show bungie will be posting a blog post in direct response to the communities feedback. Now the point I want to make is that many people are upset and making claims about bungie that simply aren’t true. The number of posts and youtube videos that claim bungie isn’t listening or bungie is lying is staggering. This is what this cancellation is about. Instead of ignoring complaints and continuing full steam ahead with their livestream bungie is taking the time to address these issues. They know there is problems and taking action to open a dialogue with the community about these problems. I for one believe this is fantastic. I love destiny and will always stand by bungie but even I can admit there are problems. However, I believe this is a very positive step in fixing these issues. So before you complain and rage, take the time to look at this blog. The studio is reaching out to you telling you they messed up and they want to make it right. These people poured their hearts into this game and they want it to be better just as much as you do. Lastly for all the people upset about the xp debacle. You have every right to be upset. In the midst of all the scandal with micro transactions this was not a pleasant discovery. But if you come out and make hateful comments about how bungie is full of liars and thieves, then you are simply wrong. Bungie immediately reacted, clearly confirming that this was indeed happening and taking steps to improve it. They never hid it from you, and they immediately took the blame. It shows me this company is dedicated to righting those wrongs that are out there. So please keep the door open with bungie and keep the feedback constructive. Bungie is doing their part it’s time for the community to do theirs. TL:DR - the livestream was cancelled for a blog post where bungie is going to address all the problems with the game. Give it a read and make your judgements then. Let’s make community feedback constructive to support a company that is genuinely trying to make things better.

      • I'm sorry but you are clearly not thinking things through properly. "They never hid it from you..." Yes they did. They clearly put this in without any notification. The throttle was not accidental code. It was code specifically placed to limit exp farming to prevent the procuring of loot boxes. Their entire intent was clear. XP past level 20 has only one purpose and that is to reward the player with a free loot box. So in turn their attempts to limit XP are there only to limit the procurement of free loot boxes which in turn will aid in the desired result in the more purchases of paid loot boxes. They then stated they were reverting the system back to prior and would look at it for the future and then behind the scenes without again any information to any player... doubled the XP it takes to level. When a company stoops to these levels it erodes the trust level a customer has in the company. Next it won't surprise me if they change the 'luck rolls" between free loot boxes and paid loot boxes. Again all behind the scenes. I can only state that these actions show that their prime motivation is monetizing loot boxes and not game play. Your statements are delusional.

Yes, but they certainly aren't doing enough. Nothing from the list of changes in the making, make me want to play this game again. Whether they are trying their hardest or not is irrelevant at this point because theyve proven to be incompetent in design choices. Also I agree not everyone at Bungie are liars and thieves, but there certainly are among them. A majority of the workers no doubt work honestly to make the game work, but the few that push the anti-consumer designs like throttling xp overshadow that. Personally I can now understand Marty O'Donell's frustration and contempt with Bungie nowadays, because it certainly isn't the same company it once was. Faith in Bungie= 0

          • Same events (that is happening to D2 and Bungie) happened to Warframe and Digital Extremes when it first launch. Constructive criticism work when the devs are actively engage with the people that are playing their game and actually tell people what is in their game (Bungie never say anything about XP and loot modifier at launch), they did not have too much success in that regard. DE put the fate of their entire studio into the success of Warframe all that Bungie is doing is to avoid a PR nightmare. Maybe more people will have more faith in Bungie words and give more constructive criticism once the devs crawl out of their hole and start actually talking, listening and considering the conversation, not disappear then reappear 2-3 months later with 2 blue and a rare.

          • Bungie did not immediately react to the EXP issue. They waited until after major gaming websites called them out to say something, even though we caught it almost immediately.

            • Smh no, they're only trying to make it look like they care bc they need to sell a DLC. If you can't see that then you must be blind. This is typical bungie at its finest

              • This game is absolutely amazing, not in the it's a perfect game sense, but in the fact that it has a community that's this big and so polarized. Bungie supporters are waiting to be proven right with posts of hope for the game, Bungie "haters" are so full anger and what things to change so badly that they stick around said companies forums to preach the gospel just in case things change and they can feel like they accomplished something great. (And if things change, it IS because of them, remember that) At the end of the day we all want the same thing , a better game. Nobody is on here ranting like they do because of boredom, or just "whatever, something to do"... thats a level of pathetic that is very rarely seen here regardless of toxicity. What you do see is a lot of people invested in something they really want to like. That being said, both sides are bringing up solid points, and if current events are any indicator, it's working.

                • Can you please confirm when and what method was used by Bungie and Activision to personally contact you such that you are able to provide us with these details as to why they are doing what they are doing? What’s that? They didn’t personally contact you? Ok, got it. So basically your post is just your opinion and no more valid than anyone else’s so you telling others what to do and think is pointless.

                  • It's sheer madness to even bother posting this here. The Digital Extremes forum bots are too numerous. Thinking a gaming company might actually want people to play their game for extended periods is so far out there it's passing the Voyager probe.

                  • I love how everyone else's opinions are wrong but this dude's opinion is the truth? And the only reason bungie came clean about the XP debacle is because they got caught. They had a deliberate system to negativity scale XP the more you played. This wasn't a bug in the code they were not aware of. It was specifically designed this way to take advantage of the people who were most invested in the game, knowing these players would be the ones more likely to pay for in-game items. So the idea that bungie should be commended because they took action on this is ludicrous. Especially when they secretly double the amount of XP needed!!! Give me a break, bungie is just like the rest of the big studios that must monetize everything in an attempt to maximize profits. Other studios need to look at what guerilla did with horizon zero Dawn. They made a game and released the entire thing. They didn't nickle and dime people or cut up the game in order to have dlc ready to release in a copy months from launch. And they got praised for it. Same with cdprojekt red and the witcher 3.

In regards to righting their wrong, you neglect to mention that yes, although they DID remove the XP throttle, they instead doubled the amount of XP needed to gain a 20+ level. 80,000 XP per level, throttled by 50% Vs. 160,000 XP per level, unthrottled Kind of seems like the same thing, possibly worse, imo. As for the rest of your post, I'm basically in agreement.

                    • I get what you're doing here, trying to instill some reason and positivity. Bungie is currently at the buisness end of a firehose of shit for all sorts of real and imagined slights perpetrated against Us The People. It has turned into a riot, and people become stupid when they riot. I get that. There are enough real reasons to be disappointed by Destiny 2, there is no need to make up more. But I have to disagree with you about about the "XP debacle". And I'm saying all that follows as someone who does not care, at all, about the bright lootboxes and their shiny but irrelevant content.
Bungie immediately reacted, clearly confirming that this was indeed happening and taking steps to improve it.
Redditors have been on this for weeks now. Only after the evidence became too inconvenient to ignore did Bungie address the issue. There was nothing immediate about it. They saw it coming and hoped it would blow over so they'd get away with it. But it didn't, and they had to issue that BS statement. They don't get any goodwill for doing the right thing after getting caught, they just don't lose more. But then again, in a mind-boggling failure to learn from their mistakes, they couldn't help themselves and just had to hide the doubling of the XP requirement, getting caught again in less than 24 hours. You can't make this shit up. They just don't get it. This company has a problem with transparency, and seems to be incapable of avoiding self-inflicted wounds because of that.
They never hid it from you, and they immediately took the blame.
Every time XP throttling kicked in, players were told by in-game prompts that they were getting x amount of XPs when in fact they were getting up to 95% less. Bungie had the game lie to players in order to hide this mechanic. They've been hiding it from the start and have even built the mechanic in a way that makes it hard to detect. And as far as owning the blame goes, there is no admission or apology there. On the contrary, their statement is worded in a way to make it appear as if this was all some collaborative effort, backing the community's investigation with internal data and agreeing with it to remove a mechanic they don't like anyway. Aren't they magnanimous? It's cynical PR damage control.
It shows me this company is dedicated to righting those wrongs that are out there.
It just shows a company that got caught doing something dodgy and calculated that doing the right thing would be the least damaging thing to themselves. Also, given any other context (Battlefront II loot boxes disaster, ineffective XP booster promos, etc.), I'm not even sure they would have reacted at all.
