Yes i agree you have to put mods (the purple ones) on your gear and armor to increase your light level. After you do that , complete tour weekly milestones and do the strikes - can be vanguard bit nightfall will give you a better drop rate. Join a clan or work on your clan xp to get to at least the 2nd level where the drop rate from public events inceae chance of an engram and then do heroic public events. All these ways, I grinded up to average light >295

Thank you. Following the advice of several people on the forums we've been able to push to juuuuust below 280, but it seems like such a massive grind to get the average drop up just 1 point.
