Sniping almost non-existent in PvP?
No, using scout rifles do not count.
Some folks may rejoice at this, I know a lot of folks back in D1 who despised snipers (usually shotgun warriors, I too grew frustrated by snipers as I made the switch to more aggressive play)
Not sure if its map design, the incredible amount of flinch, limited chances to practice (due to snipers being power weapons) or a combination of the above.
Snipers seem to be a dead or dying breed in the current meta, which is kind of a shame since I really enjoyed it in D1.
While I am having fun playing hyper aggressive with side arms, SMG's and auto rifles, there are times where I would like to sit back and cover a lane with a sniper rifle.
I don't think I've ever been killed by a sniper since the start of D2.
Granted, for how much work you have to put into using a sniper rifle, I can understand why most folks gravitate to easier weapons that can be just as effective if not more so.
Anyone else miss using snipers in PvP?

1 ReplyYep, sniping is dead, and praise the lord for it. Shotgun warriors are dead, and praise the lord for it. Through all of D1 I was wanting more primary battles, now we have them. I know there's a lot of people who don't enjoy the current state of pvp, but I'm not one of them.

I'm a fusion user. And I think rockets have supplanted snipers in D2 PvP. Same range, same weapon type, much more forgiving.

i still snipe when i do play pvp because rockets take no skill, fusions are boring, and shotguns and swords are meh

1 ReplyI use snipers a lot just never get the power ammo lol when I do tho as long as u fire first it's fine. If they hit u first flinch is too much. Copperhead and the blue sniper aachen I find the best with trials sniper close behind

1 ReplyYou need purple ammo (yah, I know Power ammo that used to be Heavy ammo). I use the sniper in the majority of PvP matches I play. It's not gone, just different.

I liked sniping in D1, but the game play was different. Then you usually had 6 guys sprinting up to the rift/zone/hotspot from the same direction. Often no more than two people at a time. This was predictable and ideal for sniping. You had ammo, a 1v1 sometimes 2v1, you knew where they were going to be. And you wouldn’t watch a lane very long before a target would appear. Now...you may not get ammo the entire match. There are only 4 targets, so you can literally watch a lane for a whole match and not see anyone. When you do, it will be 3 people and you will get destroyed before you can ADS lol. By the end of the match, assuming you get heavy twice, your lucky to have two kills from sniping...and one of those will most likely be a body shot. It’s not that fun anymore, camping and sniping in general makes you a detriment to your team (unless your in a fire team and sniping is part of your strat). The Flinch is unbearable. Snipers generally zoom in too much, and feel clunky. IMO snipers are in a 3 way tie for worst power option in the game...snipers, grenade launchers, linear fusions. (There are exceptions, and in capable hands they can decent.)

When I eventually do get power ammo which is rare, I just find the flinch to be a bit too much. I would love to be able to pull off a few nice snipes in some games but what's the point when I can just use a rocket launcher or something for pretty much guaranteed kills. I miss NLB :c

Sniping will never be a thing when uriels gift can outrange said snipers on every map we have.

7 RepliesAll secondaries are dead. They might as well remove them from the game. Who is going to pick a shotgun over a sword? Who is going to pick a Sniper over a rocket launcher. Who is going to pick a fusion rifle over either? No one, that’s who. They’ve effectively eliminated all the secondaries from the game.

I don't consider it hard for somebody to find a lane to camp and wait for somebody to come along into the lane and then shoot them. That crap happens in Battlefield 1. When I get sniped there, I make it my personal mission to get to them and execute them and take their dogtags if somebody else doesn't do it first. And if they really irritate me I will teabag them for good measure and as a general rule I don't teabag. But snipers are the exception. Oh not seeing people sniping in D2 in PvP has actually been one of the bright sides of it.

10 RepliesDestiny is following the COD model of small, fast and intense battles. Which doesn’t fit with how mobile and powerful guardians are. Take Valhalla from halo3 and set team spawns with game modes like ctf, and then this game would fit nuclear capability we have. (Battle field had similar problems with having jets on tiny maps)

1 ReplySniper was a skill weapon in D1. Lesser-skilled players complained, so we ended up with this piece of crap called D2. D2 is the result of casual players and everyone gets a trophy players whining.

Sniping does seem rare in PvP , however I almost exclusively use a sniper in PvP. Getting that headshot, skull and soul crushing sound, is one of the best things about sniping. Also the ability to revive snipe from a distance is pretty nice. I do agree though that snipers are few and very far between, but they are there.

Anything FUN was removed from D1 to D2 due to the cry baby PvP players.

Yea I still snipe. It sucks but I think I just miss it from d1. Bungie messed up by making flinch worse and making sniper rifles a power weapon. But oh well, I haven't played D2 in a while.

I don't miss them at all. Never used them myself. I didn't mind playing against sniper users in D1, I just had to adjust how I played a bit to compensate.

Uriel's gift is a sniper that everybody uses.

Increase ammo amount, reduce flinch, maybe add a [i]tiny[/i] bit more aim assist[spoiler]although I didn't have too many problems landing shots when I tried a sniper seriously[/spoiler] and they might be in a decent place.

I've only seen snipers when facing full teams. The most dominant sniper that I went against only killed me once. I realized that his whole team was protecting him, so I completely avoided that side of the map. His stats at the end were really high though. So with a full team, communcation and positioning I say that I guess they can work. Of the snipers that I hear are good in crucible, I only own one so I never bothered trying it out.

5 RepliesI am glad they are gone. If i get headshot with 1 shot from a sniper it tilts me off the end of the earth. If the sniper uses 2 shots to kill me i am fine.
