The Taken can leave and create blight, which is a black substance capable of being on any surface. It serves as a portal and a source of Darkness. When the Ghost scans it in The Coming War, he says it's an inter-dimensional portal. It's apparently poisonous, as Devrim Kay revealed when the Taken tried to infect the water supply in the Lake of Shadows. Despite every enemy suffering Oryx's wrath, humans were never taken. This may be because of the Traveler's shadow, but Guardians are out and about all the time. Perhaps the Light makes them immune to being Taken. It also may just be because all Guardians are space zombies. The Light might also be why we never got the ability to Take after Oryx's death.
Humans were never Taken because none were away from the Traveller, or Oryx never found one, or a group. Guardians can't be taken because they're already dead, and the ability to "Take" can only be done by living beings, on living beings. Hence why our Guardian can stand in the blights and not get Taken. It is also the reason why the Taken were attempting to poison the water supply, because if non-taken, living beings touch a blight, they're Taken, and their will is gone. It is not because Guardians have Light, as the Speaker stated at the end of Destiny 2's campaign that the Light is in all things. This reinforces The Last Word's grimoire card, in which Shin Malphur became a Guardian after Dredgen Yor killed Jaren Ward. Shin Malphur became a Guardian from Jaren Ward's Ghost, who'd been spared by Yor in hopes of turning the adolescent Shin into a monster, like him. Shin hadn't died, but had become a Guardian. The shudders the Taken do are the hosts trying to fight against the will of whoever is controlling them. Think of it like someone if grabbing your arm, and you're trying to pull away from them. The clashing of the two opposing forces causes the shaking.

  • The Traveler's shadow is a on-the-spot nickname I made for the City. It was easier than trying to convince people there was an invisible light shield deflecting the Darkness. Also, I already know about the shakiness the Taken do and the space zombie theory, hence why I fixed it.

If guardians are dead then how do they move? When the light was taken shouldn’t they have stopped? The guardians are living beings/sentient. So your whole argument is made invalid, because D2 has confirmed Guardians aren’t space zombies.

Our Guardian was severely crippled immediately after our light was taken. We dropped to our knees and weren't able to defend ourselves, not to mention we were straining our bodies when even trying to bring Ghost's shell back to our chest after the light was taken. Our Ghost literally had to heal us with it's own Light before we were able to move around freely. Now, our Guardian had our Ghost to sustain us with enough Light to keep us alive and mobile. It wasn't until we visited the Shard of the Traveller that we fully recovered our own Light. Our Ghost had been sustaining us with it's own Light until that moment. All you have to do is look at the opening cutscene again. Immediately after our Ghost goes unconscious or whatever, our Guardian immediately lost all strength and fell to the ground. He then immediately struggled to move his arm to retrieve his Ghost. Hell, in the grimoire card "Legend: The Black Garden", our Guardians are called "a dead thing made by a dead power in the shape of the dead." This right here proves that Guardians aren't living beings. It also explains why Guardians never age. Our cells are long dead, and have been replaced by Light. Destiny 2 didn't discredit the proof, which was written in the lore. In actuality, it further proved the fact that Guardians aren't living beings. From the moment our Guardian had his Light removed, he began experiencing a heightened version of Rigor mortis, in which his muscles began to stiffen due to no blood flow, or in this case, no Light to sustain him. Go rewatch the cutscene on YouTube, when our Guardian's Light was removed, he was fine for a little while, that was, until our Ghost collapsed, then he suddenly dropped to the ground. From that moment on, his movements became a lot more sluggish, along with more and more stiff.
