There's actually tons of armor sets. There's one specific to each of the four destinations, and then you have crucible, vanguard, Ikora's specific armor, and a couple miscellaneous pieces of armor with drop rates scattered throughout certain engrams.

There are eleven sets of armor so far and probably 13 in total (for hunters at least but it should be the same for titans and warlocks ) The Errant knight set (engrams i believe) THe Gensym Knight set (Io) The Exodus Down set (Nessus) The Dead End cure (engrams too) The Took Offense (zavala/strike gear) The Swordflight (crucible) The Wildwood (EDZ) The Frumious set (Ikora) The Road Complex set (Engrams too I think) The Lost Pacific set (Titan) The Optimacy set (bright engram) and there is probably one for the raid and for trials . In comparison , Destiny 1 had TWO armor sets per vendor , and that includes the factions (dead orbit New monarchy and FWC which so far aren't in D2) , plus VoG , the Queen's wrath , iron banner and even more , and that WASN'T ENOUGH ! So I'm a bit disappointed , especially since you can't even buy the armor you want .

Edited by RingersCheckmate: 9/12/2017 4:23:44 AMQueens wrath and iron banner armor sets weren't available less than a week after launch in D1. Also, D2 avoids the reskinning of armor models, something D1 was very very guilty of. It was quite disappointing to see that my dead orbit armor was exactly the same as my crucible armor, just I didn't have the dead orbit symbol plastered on the side. As I edit this piece in too, both the iron banner and queens wrath had the same exact armor models, the difference was one was black and purple and the other was black and orange. Just wanted to throw that out there. D1's launch failed on making a currency and purchasable gear, because they capped you on how much currency you could earn per week. It was a lazy way to force playtime out of players, so it's no surprise to me that D2 took the lootbox approach but with an uncapped amount of earning gear.

"D2 avoids the reskinning of armor models " not really true . Dead end cure is a reskin of the took offense for example . The errant knight and road complex boots are reskins etc. And yes , capped currency were a problem with D1 , but we could have uncapped currency to buy stuff AS WELL AS packages , an that would be much better than just making every single piece of gear in the game only obtainable through RNG .
