I know it's long, but please read my post before you respond. Even if you disagree with me, we're on the same side; We all want this game to be as awesome as possible.
I am NOT saying that:
- I'm salty because I'm getting totally stomped by controller users.
- People shouldn't be allowed to use controllers.
- Controller users are console player trash and are innately inferior to members of the PC Master Race.
- I don't understand why Auto Aim is in the game at all and it should be removed entirely.
I AM saying that:
- PVP with an uneven playing field feels bad. Not only does it make it more frustrating to lose ("I only lost because Bungie gives controller users free aimbots") it devalues winning ("I can't be sure if we won because I'm awesome, or because the other three players on my team are playing with controllers").
- It opens another vector for cheating. We're already seeing this with players who plug in controllers to add the aim assist to their M+KB play. You're going to have your hands full with people trying to cheat as it is, even if you find a way to track and ban this behavior it's going to be a constant game of cat-and-mouse as people continually discover ways to abuse the aimbot you yourselves added to the game. Why not avoid this headache altogether by disabling it in PVP?
- People will take PVP less seriously knowing there are sanctioned aimbots among the playerbase, and it will irreparably damage not only the engagement of your most ardent players (the competitively-minded who will stick it out between PVE releases) but if you have designs on making this an Esport, you can kiss those goodbye. The jokes at the expense of your game will be torrential.
I will say that I have no issue with Auto Aim existing in PVE. If it makes peoples' experience better with their control method of choice, I totally get it and I think it should be kept in the game.
This just doesn't make sense when applied to PVP, though. It's less fun than it could be, for everyone involved. It's gotta go. Speaking as a core gamer, I want to sink a bunch of time into getting good at the PVP in this game. But if it's cheapened in this way, the simple fact is I'm going to get bored and frustrated, and go back to one of the many FPSes already available which actually presents a legitimately competitive experience.
Thanks for reading.

use a controller for pvp? or just play pve with k/b mouse... or like me enjoy both for their value - sniping with mouse, acrobatic gunfights CQ with controller with seamless transitions
-
God the amount of sheeple on this stupid post...it's apalling. Stop ruining the game for controller users just because you don't understand what aim assist is.

4 RepliesDestiny will never be competitive pvp.

1 ReplyI didn't even notice it seeing as my aim is God Tier for some reason in D2. All I do is snap straight to the head anyway..........oh....wait....
-
3 RepliesPvp has plagued destiny since initial auto rifle nerf year one, its cancer and trials is a.i.d.s. Wish bungie would have just separated the two modes completely or better yet just removed pvp. Pve players will get screwed again, watch them nerf aim assist next!
-
Nerf PC's.

Silly PCMASTERRACE

Are you sure you are not just bad at pvp? You know punching is a thing...

I can definitely feel when a player is using the assist versus when they aren't. I don't diminish players who are simply better than me, there are plenty out there, but when a weapon like the hand cannon encourages high risk high reward aiming and play, and there's a system that actively supports that play more than others, I feel it leads to weapon balance issues down the line. Ultimately I feel like not tweaking auto aim now prevents healthy discussion about weapon balance when the real issue is how large aim assist plays in damage in different types of pvp scenarios. I feel it should be addressed sooner rather than later. Competitive game types are just not the same on PC as console, and it should be treated as separate playing fields because they are. Bungie doesn't have a huge track record on PC so I am concerned on how they will handle it.

8 RepliesEdited by Chubbums: 8/30/2017 6:46:45 PMWell since everyone thinks aim assist is fine a poster on Reddit has a tutorial on how to enable it for keyboard and mouse users. No additional peripherals required. The goal is to abuse it till they remove it. Spread the word. https://www.reddit.com/r/destiny2/comments/6wyrgm/how_to_enable_aim_assist_for_mkb_on_pc/

1 ReplyAim assist shouldn't be in the game? Why ruin the experience for controller users? There's nothing wrong with it. You elitists have some salt showing, and I honestly don't know why. It legitimately has no negative effect on you and your gaming experience. If you're as good as you think you are, play with it. Controller users shouldn't go without a core function because YOU think so. It's not fair. Your arguments are absolute trash, by the way. Aim assist is the not the same thing as an aimbot. Nor should it be treated as such. That's ignorance that needs killed. Also, plugging in a controller won't add aim assist to KB/M. Bungie already has that covered. I bet you'd know that if you plugged in your controller and tried. This is ignorance at best and elitism at worst. It evens the playing field, but only just enough. You know why? KB/M is still superior in every competitive aspect. IF a controller user has you struggling? You really should try and.. oh.. how does it go? Oh! GIT GUD

39 RepliesWhoa! hold up a minute, People have been preaching PC master race for years and claimed that mouse and keyboard is superior over using a controller, Now everyone wants to cry about how players using a controller have an advantage? Give me a break... Controllers and aim assist are a package deal, If your actually good with a mouse and keyboard then you will be able to out shoot anyone using a controller.

I've played destiny since the D1 beta on Xbox one. And I'm staying on console for D2, just because shooters don't feel like shooters to me when using a mouse. The controller just feels more like I'm shooting a gun. Personal choice. But I do have a question, just out of curiosity. Can a controller user on PC really feel a strong pull with the aim assist? Because on console, it doesn't feel that sticky to me. Or maybe I'm just used too it? Or is it a stronger AA than the console version? Just wondering.

12 RepliesEdited by MrTang0Down: 8/30/2017 3:40:43 PMWAAAAAA Destiny 1 is not on PC WAAAAAA Destiny 2 on PC YAAAY WAAAAA AUTO AIM WAAAAAA I hate auto aim aswell, but you have to realise that Destiny is a PVE HEAVY game, not pvp atleast not at the moment. Please just enjoy the -blam!-ing game on PC. If you're a good KB+M user you'll shit on controller users. Please, pvp won't be relevant in D2 for atleast a month or two because everyone will be grinding PVE. The whole aim of D2 is to get our powers back and stop ghau. Do you really think a "PVP Heavy" game would have such a deep lore as this game? No, the answer is no If you want heavy pvp and minimal lore. Theres a game called Overwatch.

2 RepliesAnd so the cryhards begin.... do it guys. Nerf this game into pile of shit before it even gets released,,,,bravo.
-
Edited by Death: 8/31/2017 12:01:31 AMget a controller then. its not as easy as you think. everyone is fighting the auto aim. its how they level the playing field.
-
1 ReplyNo. Bungie is getting as many players in as they can. Why have many more casual players shy away in favor of fewer hardcore players? Money is the answer btw.
-
If I made money by playing this game I would care but I don't soooo.....
-
I don't want auto aim in my console version. It constantly pulls you off your target for one that's closer or moving beside what you're shooting. There is actually a large number of people who want it gone from the consoles.
-
2 RepliesXIM4 will destroy competitive PVP if aim assist is kept on or tweaked.
-
Agreed. AA has no place in D2 PvP. PvE, knock yourself out.
-
1 Reply100% right / AA has to go on PC PVP in PVE i dont care. If you look at Overwatch there is also no AA and if you give those guys AA the comp scene is dead and gone.

Well said.

6 RepliesEdited by DreaM.It: 8/30/2017 1:10:45 PM"Games like Overwatch had Aim Assist on PC during the beta and was subsequently quickly removed after it was brought to Blizzards attention about using the XIM4. There's a reason no competitive FPS has Aim Assist, it's not just because of "PC Master Race can't handle getting booked by controllers" which i see pop up every now and then. It's because people can literally get a free aimbot that is undetectable with a keyboard and mouse. It has NO place in PVP games." Source - https://www.reddit.com/r/destiny2/comments/6wv1td/just_like_to_point_out_something_regarding_aim/ Thanks DontReadIntoItPlease Destiny 2 has built-in aimbot basically and when used with XIM4, you have undetectable serious advantage against controller and k+m players. Aim assist needs to be tweaked or removed for PVP side of the game. Edit: please bump a thread I made about this. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forums/Post/230336319?sort=0&page=0

No aim assist in Crucible!
