I did without any problems. It may depend on where you live or how long ago you pre-purchased, but give them a call, it doesn't hurt to ask.

I just tried that and they said the money goes straight to the developer and I was sol pretty much..

Check to see if money was taken out of your account, because that doesn't sound right to me.
