Yeah. Still doubt it's gonna be 500$. If it is, cool. Still staying on PC.

If it's $500 it'll actually compete with PC. I just don't see it happening either.
-
Native 4K 60fps and an 8 core CPU... yeah that's not gonna be 500$. I just don't understand how people think it will be 500$. It's not going to happen. The hardware needed to do that is very expensive, and Microsoft has even said it will be priced as a premium product.
-
Not to mention the custom cooling system, it'll need to be packaged with a game pad, etc.

Didn't even consider that. Microsoft could just beautifully optimize the games they initially present (I.g. Forza horizon 3) and then slack on the optimization for other games.
-
I thought they worked with Forza Motorsport 6? Horizon 3 would have been considerably more impressive since it's open world, not racetracks.

Edited by Ghost Of PCMR: 4/8/2017 9:32:16 PMWas it 6? I can't remember. I just know it was one of the new forza games. EDIT: yeah I just checked. It was Motorsport.
Didn't even consider that. Microsoft could just beautifully optimize the games they initially present (I.g. Forza horizon 3) and then slack on the optimization for other games.
It's certainly possible. Remember how many asterisks were next to the 4k part in Sony's advertising?
-
It was like asterisk town. I bet that only first party games and exclusives will run well, and third party games will be screwed in terms of optimization.
-
Yeah, probably only in first party games.
-
Yeah, probably only in first party games.
If that. Im as hopeful for 4k 60 as everyone else, but a Forza demo isn't demanding - not to mention how vague and shitty both MS and Sony are when it comes to resolutions, I'm not expecting great things. Until I see some third party games running, I'll remain skeptical.

Launching a console at $600 almost killed the PS3, and that was with the momentum of coming off of the best selling console of all time. If MS wants to sell more than 5 of these things they can't go any higher than $500. Even that is too high imo, though I can't really picture it being much lower either given the specs.
-
When asked about the price, Microsoft said it will be a premium product and priced as such. They're moving away from the shitty console standard. That's why the Xbox one and the scorpio will still be in the same generation, so you have choices in hardware. You can choose the cheaper option and get the one, or go for the scorpio. It will not be 500$, I can assure you of that. The GTX 1070 is about the equivalent of the GPU in the scorpio, and the CPU is about the equivalent of a ryzen CPU. It will not be 500$.
-
No. The CPU is not even close to Zen architecture; it is in fact the same architecture seen in the xbone and ps4; just clocked higher. Also, you can't compare the GPU to a Pascal sku. It is a completely different architecture being used. We know it isn't Vega, so that leaves a fully unlocked Polaris on the die as the best speculation. And that really isn't very far of a stretch. We know that the 480 is not a fully unlocked Polaris 10 part, and what has been revealed in Scorpio aligns with what a fully unlocked Polaris 10 chip would look like; 2560 Stream Processors if all 40 Compute Units are enabled. So given these details, a $500 price point really sounds about right honestly.

I know what they've said. I still bet you're wrong. That would be suicide. It would not sell. Period. They need this to revitalize their console business, not be a super niche item that only the most hardcore would even consider. If the Scorpio fails, it could be the end of MS in the console space. I'm not exaggerating about that either. They've lost all the momentum from the 360 generation due to self inflicted wounds. If they don't right the ship, it's heading straight for an iceberg.
