As described in the Glimmer grimoire card, the Tower has massive demands for Glimmer to produce heat for Guardians and using this inflow also generates a massive outflow by use of Glimmer in the engram trade as well as manufacturing. Despite the majority of the economy's seeming to be focused on military production, the fact that all of humanity's population is focused in one city area makes me believe that, in the case of military economy collapse, the part of the economy run by farming and trade of food and non-military products will allow the City to stay on its feet, although the combat capabilities of the City will still definitely be crippled
