Nightfalls actually used to be challenging. When your fire team wiped, you'd get returned to orbit and would have to retry. I remember doing my first nightfall and I was sweating like crazy. In this regard, also increase the drop of GOOD gear and get rid of legendary gauntlets, helmets etc. in the loot table. Also give us the blue flame buff after finishing one.
Make nightfalls great again!
Cheers everyone!
Edit: Holy moly! We're trending fast! Keep it going ya'll!
Edit 2: Its funny how people say that only "hardcore" players want Y1 NFs back. If i remember correctly, I am anything but one. Yes, I'm day one, yes I ONCE soloed Valus in Y1 after 2 1/2 hrs. But i only started raiding a month before RoI came out. I also only completed WotM once on normal. Imo Bungo isn't catering to enough to people that play the game for longer periods of time.
Edit 3: A lot of people don't want to return to orbit when they wipe, but much rather restart at the beginning, which is perfectly fine. And it is a lot better!

2 RepliesI remember the first time I did the nightfall. It was the ogre and I got vanquisher from new monarchy. Really liked that gun. Also I'm Banshee 44 and I'm the Tower's Gunsmith. I work here with my old friend Cayde 6 and his ghost, Big Ghoss. Everything in here has a story and a price. One thing I've learned after 44 resets - you never know what gun is gonna come through that door.

Edited by LittleLostPlanet: 1/13/2017 11:26:43 AMI agree. But of course, you gotta think about the players that aren't hardcore players or even decent in PvE. They probably want to do it too. But I do agree that Nightfall isn't as fun as it used to be. Right now, it's literally almost just like Heroic strikes but with higher light level enemies and longer spawn timers.

Disagree. What's the point? It gives literally the most common stuff, you can get it just by doing absolutely nothing in crucible.

I agree

1 ReplyEdited by chaewon: 1/13/2017 10:59:05 AMOr you can always just back out when your team wipes Edit: challenging doesn't actually mean that the activity is actually going to be hard. It's to test the individuals abilities and honestly, people usually set their expectations too high for said challenge. Getting rid of legendaries from the loot table will leave us with only exotics which most of us already collected by now, 3oC, strange coins, emotes, and sparrow kits which aren't really exciting to get imo. Ar least with legendaries it can used for fuel, give us specific perks, complete builds, etc.

I understand. I was a day one/month one player, got rid of the game, and then I came back in taken king. So for me, at the time of month 1, I played one nightfall and it was the hardest shit ever. Period. I also attempted VoG once at the time. Point was I was shit, and the game was shit at the time, and I will NEVER go back, or think about how it was. No amount of nostalgia can make me feel good about wounds.

2 RepliesSome aspects of the nightfall should return. Mainly I would like to see the blue flame return with the rep booster. They should add different color flames for the type of class you beat it on. Beat it on a solar warlock, get a red flame, etc. etc. Maybe better rewards like you mentioned, but other than that, it should stay like it is. The reason I say that is because in year 1, although more difficult with returning to orbit, us guardians also had more powerful weapons to handle the bosses. We also had strategies (or cheese spots) to take on said nightfall. (Staying on top at nexus or outside the door at phogoth). Bungie with its relentless nerfing, telling us how to play their game by fixing cheese spots and their stupid modifiers, fixing most rooms so you can't hide and facing enemies in the open, and the list can go on and on. Year 1 had many incentives to do the nightfall, year 3 has none other than ice breaker right now.

1 ReplyY1 standards including Y1 loot?? Nah, son. If I ever see any kind of shards, energy, or motes in my rewards screen....💣💣💣💣

1 ReplyMy memory of year 1 nightfalls is so different from yours. I and many others used to solo the nightfall on a regular basis. It wasn't till KF dropped that it was actually difficult to solo anymore due to being locked in a room with the final boss eg. Shield Brothers. some ppl could even solo that too. I never tried nor wanted to. I do miss the blue flame and decent drops though. I would get 2 exotics a week on average. Saying that, I have all exotics now that can drop from nightfalls. 3oC is also useless to me. I probably have 400 and don't use them. I have plenty of shards too.

6 RepliesMy weapons: an EP + IceB + Hunger Prior to getting any/all of them, attempting a NF was a pointless exercise - for me, at least; then, finding a team to run with was another frustrating challenge. It took time to build a good Friends list; by doing strikes, patrols, bounties, and, eventually - the raids, i.e., VoG and Crota. Just getting them done on normal mode was an achievement; doing more to acquire gear and weapons was fun, too! And, when the planets aligned, and one knew the mechanics- it was time to go Hard! 🤡 Thing was, it took time to prep and more time to do; there was no unholy rush...it was challenging and fun...and - rewarding! And re NF - the blue flambe hairdo was de rigeur! Prior to Tue re-set: join m8s in Gorgon's chest - rinse/repeat x3; then - straight to NF x3 - to get bonus rep for rest of week, and for any goodies that dropped! Then it was either hit IB - if it was on, or rinse/repeat Raids for those missing bits - gear/weapons. I got jellyH late in Y1; FB + VexM - in Y3 (post-TTK - unbelievable🤖); and am still hunting Crux⁉😩 I'm in no rush...🤡 I will get it! 👻 When they nerfed ToM, it made me 🤢 I had great fun helping others do Oryx on either mode, as a bubble Titan! The more I helped, the more Friend Requests landed, and the more help I gave...especially as the MoT book was nearing its completion date requirement. Then, they nerfed ToM... It wasn't the end of the world: to get ToM was a royal pain of a grind... the joy of finally getting it was - for me, to help others' complete the raid and/or Challenge(s) on Oryx. Bad move, Bungle! 😒 I have not (yet) completed WotM...or acquired the 4th exotic weapon (re the Book)....too much of a chore...too many hoops to jump through...and besides - not enough vault space as it is with the gear/weapons already accumulated. Also, most of my m8s have disappeared from Destiny. Currently, it's a virtual desert! Oh yeah, back to NF: removing the blue hairdo was another bad move by Bungle...but, it was just another brick in their self-built Wall of Shameful Behaviour / Silence. In fact: par for the course, i.e., SNAFUBAR! 🙄

Nightfalls in Y1 were mostly a Nightmare due difficult modifiers and burns, low light and less understanding/mastery of the game. The rewards also seemed much better because we had nothing unlocked, a chance at an exotic was worth all the effort. Now most people I play with have almost everything. The only things im missing are a few Class specific exotics and the PS exclusives. The only reason I play the Nightfall now is in the vain hope of getting a God roll Luna but I mostly dont bother as its not worth the time invested. The only way I think Bungie could make the Nightfalls rewarding to "Veterans" is if you could select a certain reward or have chance at a select group of rewards. i.e either select the Eyesluna and hope for a God roll or that Vanguard helmet you like and hope for good stats/perks. Or Select primary weapons or chest pieces and have a chance to get any primary or chest piece currently available for that class.

I agree to bring it back like y1 BUT it should have the same leveling system as y1 otherwise it's not as fun Plus rework some strikes and the modifiers because of lack of cover and modifiers you can't recover health

2 RepliesEveryone keeps mentioning the timer for the Sunrise bounty. Who the heck takes a half an hour to do a Nightfall?!?
-
3 RepliesThe problem with y1-f-u-back-to-orbit-biyatch style Nightfalls is that it makes everyone equip a scout and hide through the whole strike and then hide through the whole boss fight. Pew-pewing headshots when they have a chance. I sincerely hate playing with people who cower in some remote corner. Why are they even playing videogames? I have a very aggressive playstyle and I crave some coordinated chaos. If everyone but me is hiding like a little child scared of the dark, I'm just going to draw all the fire and die. Do you even remember the cheese fests that were y1 nightfalls? I'm sick of strange coins and 3oC though...

4 RepliesCan someone please tell me what "Good Gear" is? What are you hoping to get? Honestly, you get a skeleton key now which promises something good all the way up to max light. Then what are you hoping to get for a post game reward. Most people (me) have everything already. I suppose the only valuable thing for me to get now is a horn or an emote. I'm not even trolling. I seriously want to know what the community wants to get as a reward it's not already getting?

1 ReplyBlue Flame Buff doesn't need to return... If bungie will return it then they will also remove rep boosters. They will do it for sure... I don't play Destiny so often right now, but per 2 hours of playing with Rep Boosters I can get the same result as per 8 hours of playing with Blue Flame Buff. 8 hours instead of 2? No, thanks. Also I want to mention that since TTK and April Update all rep gaining increased so much, that Nightfall Flame doesn't even need anymore to exist.

3 RepliesEdited by bFLY: 1/13/2017 6:14:08 AMNah, as a beta and day one player I don't want a wipe to restart the entire nightfall. That was always dumb to me, especially considering most people use lfg and are running with randoms. It's harder to find a competent team than it is to actually complete the nightfall. Because of this, there needs to be a little leniency in my opinion. Nightfalls weren't any more difficult back then than they are now honestly. There is no need to bring back that "restart the whole thing because some random idiot on your team tried to melee Omnigul we can't control or change the shitfest that is lfg on a Sunday night, but we can reduce some of the pain and suffering that comes along with it lol. . I like it just the way it is.

4 Replies*community begs for changes on nightfall because they were tired of being returned to orbit* *Bungie changes the standards for nightfall* *community begs to return to year 1 standards* Make up your mind guys!!!

1 Replyyear 1 players will remember the shit loot from nightfalls. am i the only one who remembers getting ascendant shards/energy when we needed radiant instead?

Edited by Kreutz: 1/13/2017 5:35:46 AMNightfalls were more fun in Year One, like a lot of things about this game.
