Bungie, you're apparently desperate for cash via microtransactions, based on the changes made to Festival of the Lost (FotL) 2016.
TL;DR Knowing you can get duplicates is a disincentive to buy silver, because odds are you're going to be wasting money.
Previous events (Sparrow Racing 2015) ensured you didn't get duplicates via the smart loot system.
Odds of getting the ghosts, sparrow, or fire wolf mask have been demonstrated to be approximately 3%.
In FotL 2015, players had a chance to obtain all masks via grinding ingame. Duplicate masks could be discarded for a chance at paper scraps and glue, used to "save" desired masks and make them legendary, so they'd not expire at the end of the event.
In FotL 2015, players could buy silver to save time, and have a chance of getting the legendary masks.
In 2015 Sparrow Racing, paying silver gave the player a sparrow NOT CURRENTLY OWNED. A system was in place (smart loot) to ensure players didn't get duplicates, after paying with silver.
In FotL 2016, a max of 3 of the 6 legendary masks can be obtained via the quest line from Tyra Banks. Players cannot get all legendary masks AND the rare wolf mask and the special sparrow via in-game quests alone. They must buy silver to collect all items.
However, many players are reporting getting duplicates and having to spend over $40 just to collect all the rare, timed event items.
This is totally unacceptable and pushes players away from destiny. It tarnishes bungie's reputation and is a lost revenue opportunity.
Especially the fact that you intentionally allow duplicates, instead of ensuring they don't occur, as you did with sparrow racing, is just another slap in the face.
Many players have stated they'd happily pay MORE for a guaranteed specific item, instead of having to fight RNG.
Seriously, we fight RNG every day. It is beyond terrible customer service to hit silver buyers with another layer of RNG.
Lesson learned: Eververse is a scam and not worth it. You're actively pushing away the minority that was willing to pay extra for simple cosmetic items, by buying silver.
You're literally destroying your own customer base.
Hell, even reddit/r/destinythegame is furious over this, and they're the only forum you actually listen to!
Bungie, you're continuously losing players. Why keep inflicting these wounds on yourself?

This is one of the reasons children aren't allowed to gamble in casinos...

3 RepliesMost people are too short sighted. To list a few comments that reflect this: "I don't care." "I make good money." "I can afford to blow $50. "Get a job." They don't stop to think that if they stop spending that money (even they can "afford" it), means that cosmetics woukd eventually: 1. Be more reasonably priced 2. Have a lesser chance, if any, of getting dupes 3. Be able to purchase exactly the item you want 4. Be simply earned in-game Or any combination of the above. But they're too focused on themselves to see this.

2 RepliesQue ill take this to the devs automated response unit
-
Tbh, I'd put more blame on Activision (since, well, they are the publisher...) Developer makes the content. The publisher has a say as to how it is implemented and/or the price.
See also: Red Bull quest. That was Activision's doing according to various sources
I opened 6 boxes, got the 6 masks that I didn't have and got the Ghost Ghost and the Sparrow

Shits bogus.

5 RepliesRNG microtransactions are the worst thing this industry has ever shat out.
-
I would only consider buying it if you could buy the specific item for a specific price. Don't RNG with my money. Bungie can go f*ck themselves.
-
Anybody else not give a -blam!- about these masks that we will all basically never wear anyway? And then they'll become useless as destiny 2 will arrive anyway

User error

micro transactions are fine. making them rng based is not fine. it's a game, we should be able to buy what we want. nobody wants to gamble for a chance at an item when every other game that has microtransactions gives you the item you pay for. those that do support the rng cash grab, good luck and thank you for putting money back into the economy, just a shame you are supporting a faulty system.

Bungie ignore us bout everything they only care for the money
-
1 ReplySpeak for yourself. I'm not leaving the game because of micro-transactions. It's optional and cosmetic. I spent a little on it and got a few things I liked, some duplicates and so forth. It was okay, but I choose to not spend more money on it. I'm not going to trash Bungie and howl that they violated my civil rights. No, I'm just not going to spend more money on it. End of story. Bungie isn't MAKING you do anything. Let's face it, if those items were "guaranteed" you wouldn't want them nearly as much. Personally, I really don't care if I get all the legendary masks. They look cool, but lower my light level and make some things harder. That and the fact that I'm running out of vault space, makes me care a lot less about masks.
-
they heard or read probably everything. they just dont care. i mean, it was an intended cash grab from the very start and they knew what they are doing because there are enough people who think they are cool by "affording" worthless ingame items with real money, regardless of the price and rng. they could create an rng box with 10 useless items and 1 emblem and people would waste 50+ bucks on that rng box just because "they can". in the end its a simple and smart move. why create quality content if you can make much more money by creating almost nothing and sell it in an rng box that is going to force you to buy it multiple times until you wasted more money than a normal dlc costs? until people actually learn this lesson this wont change. overall im not rly that mad, after the radiant treasure stuff i knew this was going to happen. the masks arent even infusable or anything so after a month no one is going to wear them anyways. just dissapointed that bungies idea of an "event" cant last more than 5 hours.
before the first clever guy comes with a smart ass answer; no. i dont want that stuff to be a handout. why not create a quest / questline for every mask with possibly a new mission? maybe even a matchmaking mission so we actually have something new and creative?
-
They heard us. They just don't care.

3 RepliesImagine if Bungie owned a chain of resteraunts and implemented rng into real life
-
3 RepliesI mean, i don't disagree with most of this, but what do you expect them to do? Say, "We are sorry you have been spending money on our stuff to get things?" That is the intent, they want people to spend 40-50 bucks to get specific items. I'm not saying it is 100% right, but it's also not wrong. It is not things you need to play the game, they aren't required, and it's an option to spend the money to get the items. It is all for profit, and they don't care that some people are upset with how the things are locked behind a payment and rng, because the stuff that is there is cosmetic and they are making money off of it. The whole idea behind the process is to get those people to spend 40-50 bucks on things that are utterly meaningless in the game. And it's working. As long as people are buying that much silver just to get a ghost, there will be no response from bungie, because eververse is working as planned. Again, not that i agree with it, but there isn't anything they are going to do about it. Just keep your money in your wallet and don't contribute, its the best, and only way, to get their attention.

2 RepliesClearly the players lost isn't enough to outweigh the amount of money the other idiots are throwing onto this dumpster fire. Mad it's continuing? STOP. BUYING. THE. PRODUCTS. They'll listen a lot more to their bottom line than they ever will to posts, no matter how many ya make or how long they are.

3 RepliesEdited by STINGER72: 10/28/2016 10:25:06 AMI know some politicians here in Australia are pushing for these micro transactions to be classed as gambiling... Just wonder how this would effect things?

72 RepliesUNBELIEVABLE! WOW! I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY MAKE US SPEND ALL THIS MONEY!!! Oh wait, that right. They don't. Instead they gave us a free event and cosmetic rewards. Just be grateful.
Tyra Banks
YES! I'm not the only one who calls her that lol. First day of playing RoI saw her name and instantly thought, Tyra Banks. Anyway, 100% OP!
-QA Test Engineer (a.k.a. AR IS4 NUBS)
Let the salt flow as the cash registers ring !

1 ReplyOh look. Xur is selling the Moonglow ornament. Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... Seems I recall him having already sold the moonglow ornament. So much for people who were running around screaming "YOU PEOPLE ARE JUST WHINERS! BE PATIENT! XUR SELLS TWO A WEEK, THERE'S ONLY 22 OF THEM SO HE'LL RUN THROUGH ALL OF THEM IN 11 WEEKS! THAT'S JUST 3 FRAGGING MONTHS AT THE VERY LONGEST! ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS BE PATIENT!" I don't recall bungie EVER saying that they were going to systematically run through the whole line up, or even garuntee that the entire selection would /ever/ be made available from xur. In fact, the rarest of the lineup will probably never be available from him. That kinda erodes your entire argument. Bungie might as well have just announced "no, some of these you'll only ever get if you keep buying boxes". Bungie is not being an honest dealer with their microtransactions and it needs to stop. Even after having shelled out money for the expansion and for all this crap from Festival of the Lost Wallet, the microtransactions might be the final straw. ActiBungion has taken on a very fan hostile position and it's become clear that the only voice we have to say "Please, stop eroding our fan base" is to just walk away and never come back. Because nothing less than rooms full of dead empty servers will make them change their act.

Bungie's reputation has been long tarnished in my opinion. They make it seem like they care but when you think about it they don't care at all.
