Another one throwing the ddos around and sounding ignorant not knowing what they are talking about. Ddos does not affect ps4 systems. It disables the router to be useless . it steals your login info. You have neither. You lost and are mad and are trying to throw around a term u dont understand

How exactly does freezing the router by using a network of devices to flood it with massive amounts of useless data steal your login info?

Real ddos doesnt freeze a router smh..it sends constant pings , taking the info back to the host and causing overload on the router and burns it out. This happens against banks, goverment ect.... Not a destiny video game my son writes encrypted software for banks to try to prevent these attacks

I won't list any of the programs, but there are plenty of programs out there that are purpose built for booting people from competitive games via a 10 minute packet flood. However you are correct, technically these are not DDoS attack as they are not usually distributed. They are just denial of service attacks, but the result is exactly the same. By the way, Id be interested to know how encrypting a data stream prevents a public IP flood. Encryption is meant to keep data from being stolen, IDS and IPS are what detect and prevent DDoS and other attacks.

I know what a booter program is. Seen them alot on cod. Runs through a pc . ddosing and booting are 2 totally different things. Ps4 is alot less likely to accept a booter vs the old ps3 days. And with the tons of disconnects due to p2p on destiny , a low mtu router can cause other teams to disconnect constantly against u. Dont need any program for that

You are correct, a minor adjustment to MTU may cause lag, but it won't drop and entire team. If anything, it would drop the player that adjusted it too low as it would be their connection suffering. I'm sure you know that MTU is just limits the packet length.

If u are hosting, which also have a force host programs in the past..u can cause the other to disconnect if you are red barring. U do run the risk of disconnecting yourself, but thats not always the case

I agree that unless someone who gets disconnected has some sort of traffic logging enabled there is no real way of knowing exactly how it happened. I do know that there are plenty of instances where players internet becomes unusable for a period of time unless they renew the public IP address on their router. Obviously you are an expert though because of the work your son does, so have a nice day. By the way, for anyone else reading this. If this happens to you, just report them. I know nobody thinks this does anything, but I see folks on here complaining about restrictions and bans all the time. Bungie is logging the connection stats and reporting flags the offenders for further investigation. This is done by an actual person, not an algorithm, so it usually takes a week or so.

Im no expert lol i do ask alot of questions as even though i run 200 mps i still get disconnected , even my router as been completley shut down. My son seems to think bungies flow packets is so inconsistent that it goes up and down like a yo yo, and alot of routers cannot handle it. He works for Cisco. I can only take his degree and expierence at his word, and even he makes mistakes. But i agree with him that no one player is ddosing a another player on a video game lol

He's right, a true DDoS would be too complex for this. A regular denial of service (not distributed) from a single source is far more likely. Especially as higher bandwidth connections become available. The players that do it aren't trying to mask the source of the attack because home networks usually aren't monitoring it and the people doing it probably don't realize it's a crime. Think about this, you have a 200mbps connection. If you wanted and knew how to do it, how hard would it be for you to flood 1 player at a time if they all had 30 Mbps connections?

Not hard ..but honestly ppl with 30 mps i feel is probably too slow for this game. Not all p2p games, but this one. I was running 60 in year one and what a mess. Even at 200 relying on a 30 mps host is going to suck. We are only on bungies server during the intial sign in and during the space travel scenes...after that i are at the mercy of the other players to some extent. There was a good video bungie posted in year one on how thier connection works and how as players p2p was going to be so much better. I think that is being rethought lol

The additional bandwidth would be more to prevent other devices on your network from chewing up all the bandwidth. I know how the connections work. Orbit and matchmaking is the only time we conn ft to Bungie.
