Iv'e been wanting to make a post about this for some time but haven't gotten around to it.
It's obvious why armor pieces are exotic and should be for good reason.
Guns such as Suros Regime, Hawkmoon, Hardlight, and a few other primaries right now just don't feel exotic... even Thorn.
Why even bother using a Hawkmoon now when Eyasluna and Palindrome just outperform it in every aspect? Why use an Auto-Rifle when a high RoF pulse rifle is basically that but better, or a Doctrin?
Basically we should just go ahead and remove some guns from the Exotic pool and drop them down to Legendaries or give them Life of the Exotic, because of they've been neutered.
I don't know if it's the nerfherd who should be blamed for this nonsense, or Bungie for caving in and actually nerfing the primaries because someone most likely got outplayed but blamed the primary for being "Too OP".

Edited by Soul_Eater_42: 10/17/2016 8:28:59 PMThe biggest problem is that many of the Exotics aren't unique enough to be really considered an "Exotic". Not just weapons, but armor too. Knucklehead Radar is now useless as there is an Artifact that can do the same thing, and more. Red Death is just a pulse rifle with a better version of Life Support. I could go on, but the point is these Exotics need to have their abilities enhanced or redesigned. Using one of the above as an example, Red Death, they could improve it by adding on to its Exotic perk the ability to increase damage or rate of fire when critically wounded, or simply adding Headseeker as an intrinsic perk like they did for No Time To Explain. Another one that could use an enhancement or overhaul is the ATS/8 Arachnid. Maybe instead of increasing the Zoom of Golden Gun, it could give it the ability to chain explosions with Combustion kills. Monte Carlo could use an improvement as well. Maybe add, as a secondary perk, an ability where melee kills refill the magazine, and increase its damage for a short time. And Hardlight could have the Persistence perk added to it.

1 ReplyI really think this discussion is the crux of Destiny the game. The exotic chase in year one was real. Some of the most sought after weapons (suros, mythoclast, ghorn, hawkmoon, ice-breaker) to name a few ... could really set you apart in pve and pvp and i had such a strong drive to put myself in as many rolls for exotic loot as i could every week. Now once i got them all and used them in said game modes a bit ... i noticed that my drive to play the game dropped off dramatically. The game and its events need to be able to stand on their own. In other words, worth playing even if you don't wind up getting or using specific loot. Balancing desirable unique loot with genuinely enjoyable events and gamplay is the challenge going forward.

1 ReplySo you can't use outbreak black spindle and dark drinker at the same time in the raid
-
They are yellow so Exotic. As far as effectiveness, use purple.

5 RepliesEdited by Briar, Acolyte of Nezarec: 10/16/2016 10:49:50 PMMy Opinion On The Exotic Weapons -Suros was an exotic until they nerfed it amd the autos into the ground and they are somewhat recovering but suros it self needs a damage buff also they nerfed the healing on it to where it procs only 1/50 kills. -thorn was exotic before these last 2 nerfs, reduced range????? And reducing the burn from 4 to 2 because people need their hands held in pvp. -why is patience and time a exotic when you still see the glare while invisible? -Pocket infinity, vex, ice breaker, the swords, sleeper, ghorn, and i guess Tom (because of itself and its perks) are the only guns imo that feel exptic anymore. -fourth horseman as we know it today is garbage compared to when it first came out and was actually good. -invective is pretty good i'd say. Max range, full auto, final round and regenerating ammo isnt so bad. -black spindle is just the nerfed black hammer. -Hereafter is unique in the way that it's exotic perk is cool but only used mainly in pvp but even then thats a stretch. -the fallen weapons are okay (except you dregs promise you can go to hell) -the chaperone also feels exotic as its the only shotgun that shoots a slug and has nice perks -plan c is just a fusion that has an instant charge after switching but i rather use my legendary which can still out do it. -telesto is also another gun i feel to be exotic but more for pve wise -last word is also unique but for pvp only, and it still is amazing even after its precision damage bonus on the perk removed. -thunderlord is meh. -nemesis star is just the opposite to the thunderlord and is also meh. -NLB i feel is also exotic and does its job just fine. -UR so during HoW this thing was pointless as a shotgun for RANGE could be outranged by a legendary. And now because all you pvp wanted buff then couldn't take the pain just like you delt it, it got nerf gg. -monte carlo is meh. -hawkmoon is okay i guess but bloom has made lots of hand cannons bad. -truth is unique as it has 3 perks. Tracking, grenades and horseshoes and tripod and is good for mostly pvp. -the jade rabbit is the fate of all fools just reskined as a ps exclusive (kinda wished xbox got it during the release of RoI) -zen metor is pretty good as its perk is great if you can proc it in pvp but its more of a pve sniper. -sleeper feels exotic. -ghorn still feels exotic. -all the sword even the legendarys feel exotic. -dragons breath feels exotic but is meh -super good advice feels bad -ice breaker feels exotic. -tresspasser feels exotic. -hardlight feels exotic as it is the only primary that doesn't have damage fall off. -NTTE is exotic but mainly in pve and is pretty decent in pvp. -the exotic starting rifle is exotic because of its many perks but still feels underwhelming. -mida is meh. -red death is meh. (Life support can do its job tbh) -the class specific exotic are all okay i guess. Titans is better then what it was (thank god) hunters is pretty good for pve and pvp. And warlocks is great for pvp. -super cell only feels exotic because of its burn. -pocket infinity is exotic. -the jemini is okay now that it has high cal. -outbreak prime is good but could have been better. -necrochasm never had a time to shine and was left in the dust. -Tom is exotic but only used in KF. -bad juju is okay i guess. -first curse is pretty good but mainly for pvp. -the murmur is another legendary which has perks more exotic then over half of the exotics. (Solar increased impact while slowing charge rate and increasing range, and arc made the charge faster while lowering range and impact and increasing stability and reload) I probably missed a few and you could also say the class specific specials feel exotic too but i dont feel so. Black hammer isnt on here because of the black spindle.

9 RepliesBUMP! For some reason Bungie wants to compensate some exotics in severe ways. Almost if they're ashamed of creating exotics. I wouldn't be surprised if there are no more exotic weapons in Destiny 2. Thorn: huge range nerf (25%). About 4 DoT nerfs over the last year and a half. Now the only thing it does is make the enemy green. Yeah, I know people say it stops shield regen, but I paid attention to that in the crucible and the effects are minimal to say the least. Hawkmoon: Has almost no range. Even with the max range perk. Horrible recoil pattern. Pretty low aim assist for a hand cannon. No use in using this over a good rolled palindrome or lord high fixer. Universal remote: Recent range nerf of 75%. Haven't seen a UR since the nerf. No Land Beyond: I still think it was a joke of Bungie to make this gun an exotic. It looks like and acts like a gun from the 1800's and Destiny takes place in the future... Obnoxious scope that makes it hard to see your enemy. Weird reload animation after every shot.... I like the idea of an exotic primary sniper, but this thing is just weird. Hard light: it shoots light. Something that has no mass. Yet it makes the screen tremble so much, that it is extremely hard to aim. Not an exotic gun, but an armor piece: Achlyophage Symbiote. Gives you four shots, but reduces your super time with 3 or 4 seconds. And golden gun already has a very short super time. I see someone using an Achlyophage Symbiote once every 75 crucible games. And those people probably don't know it reduces the time of their super. I can go on..... :(

During year 1 I thought the mida was the least exotic weapon ever now every weapon is becoming like mida. We need more ice breaker pocket infinity vex mytho and sleeper. Maybe even no life beyond
-
I believe what makes a weapon exotic is its special perk, not its stats. Each exotic should have its own unique mechanic that behaves differently than the others. Each exotic needs to be rewarding and its perk needs to be able to rival weapons like Gjallarhorn; weapons so powerful that they can't be replicated by a lucky legendary drop. That's what exotics need to be: unable to be replicated by a legendary that could compete or outperform it. You should be having a difficult time choosing which exotic to equip since they should all specialise in their own unique combat style. I have a legendary version of the First Curse but this one comes with Luck in the Chamber so guess which one I favour in PvP? Exotics shouldn't be tossed aside for a better legendary because there shouldn't be a better legendary in the first place.
-
The problem is exotics just don't perform as well as legendaries. The only exotics you really ever see are TLW Trespasser and Truth because all the other exotics are garbage compared to legendary guns with good rolls on them. But that's just my opinion
-
They should've done like halo where said weapon archetype performed the same
-
1 ReplyBungie should buff everything and make it overpowered. Nothing has to get nerfed, and there will be a lot of diversity.
-
2 RepliesI think people misunderstand why they are labeled exotic Because the perks on the weapon not the actual stats Yes some exotic perks suck and yes some legendary perform better but the exotic perk is what makes it exotic
-
9 RepliesEvery single exotic gun should do more damage than other guns of their type period. Same goes for exotic armor. All exotic armor should have more defense. I'm not saying a lot more but more. Yea sure lots of people argue "the point of exotics is that they have a unique ability that allows for a little more diversity in gameplay" blah blah blah. People who say shit like that need to shut up. You can only equip one and tons of people don't even use exotics lots of times because they just are not that great. The unique perk on so many exotics isn't even noticeable. If every single exotic gun did lust a little more dmg, like 2% or 3% more damage than legendaries it would not ruin the game at all. It would make the game better and also make exotics worth using.
-
1 ReplyThe answer to your question is that they are called exotic for no raison.
-
2 RepliesSeems like they watered down everything to make the children who complained about it being too hard to get exotics would shut up. Shows where Bungie's priorities are.
-
4 RepliesI agree, the only exotics I feel are really exotic are Sleeper sim, outbreak prime, vex mythoclast, Touch of malice, and queen breakers bow
-
Exotics are starting to feel like legendaries from borderlands. Sorta special in small ways but they can be fairly easy to get and everybody has them.
-
1 ReplyIce breaker felt the most exotic or mytho. Maybe even pocket infinity.
-
The community cries nerf. so whatever is good will eventually be bad. That's been the trend since month 2 of vanilla destiny and it won't change.
-
4 RepliesUntil they separate PVP/PVE balancing all the weapons will remain blah.
-
Totally agree. Exotics need to be OP. That's what makes them exotic in the first place. All blame falls on the constant complaining to nerf things because people aren't capable of countering certain exotic perks. It's a shame bungie keeps falling for these whiners. The other reason they do it is to just change up the play style when things get stagnant. When year one started no one used pulse rifles, they were garbage. Then there was a big head at bungie that didn't like that so they nerfed the crap out of autos and made pulse rifles OP. It's a never ending cycle. It's not going to stop.
-
I love the exotics in the game. Monte Carlo, Bad Juju and Black Spindle. I use them all the time. I dont know what the problem is.
-
2 RepliesI liked it back in year one when the game didnt just throw legendaries and exotics at you one after another. Having gradual loot drops was cool bc each one felt valuable. Plus even if you got a turd roll on some cool legendary, you could reroll it. Not to mention that exotics were still awesome and that you could use all of them, including icebreaker and vex mythoclast at max light. Now it seems like players are showered in so much loot that it all feels boring and monotonous. Plus back then you had to work to get exotics leveled up and it felt like a true accomplishment to have maxed out weapons and armor. These days you can just pop a few motes and youre done. I just want destiny 2 to be more like year 1 destiny than year 2 and 3.
-
As of Y2 they decided they didn't want exotics to be more powerful any longer. They decided they'd like exotics to be weapons that are situationally effective like black spindle and enemies with big heads, zhalo during arc burn, ToM vs oryx and the daughters. The only one I think really doesn't deserve the title is the khvostov.

Edited by checkawitz: 10/17/2016 9:52:28 AMMost exotics are a waste now they are to worried about making them to strong blah blah I miss having to decide if I wanted to use ice breaker, gally or truth in PvE in the ttk I barely used any exotic weapons. Just like I miss trying to figure out what raid primary to use and nightfalls were fun since the burn would make you switch up your primaries ahh year1 I miss you.
