Sunsinger is in vital need of a revival. The class is very underwhelming and doesn't really have a clear purpose behind what it is supposed to do. Warlocks are in desperate need of a support class, and I think Sunsinger should be moulded into that.
Now I understand there are plenty of players who enjoy using Sunsinger as a close range, sticky grenade tank. Im not trying to take this away from the Sunsinger, I am attempting to make it possible to use Sunsinger in more of a support role and to feel a little more useful in high end PvE activities, as well as make some perks a little more useful.
What do I suggest?
-Combine Viking Funeral and Touch of Flame into one perk, that sits in the final tree where Touch of Flame currently sits.
Yes it is possible to be successful using a Viking Funeral build in PvE. However, the effect lasts a miniscule two seconds, and unless you use Fusion Grenades, it is impossible to make the most of the damage buff. Now we could simply increase the damage or the duration of Viking Funeral, but this still causes the issue of the class being pigeonholed into one build. This should be a small perk that allows a small damage bonus.
-Replace the empty slot left by Viking Funeral with Song of Flame.
Song of Flame isn't a bad perk, however making use of the perk is very difficult without a fireteam. It doesn't help that it is kind of overshadowed by extra armor or being able to return from the dead.
Just imagine if Quiver for Nightstalkers didnt exist, but was instead replaced by Light of The Pack. Would it see the same usage as Bloodbound and Black Hole? Now imagine if you could combine Song of Flame with Radiant Skin like you would with Light of The Pack and Black Hole in PvE.
If Song of Flame was instead a passive option instead of a primary perk, it could get much more usage.
-Replace the empty spot left by Song of Flame with a new perk: Inferno.

-When selected, any enemy in proximity to the Sunsinger while Radiance is active becomes ignited.
This effect would be as large as maybe one and a half or even two Ward of Dawns. This perk would also stack with Touch of Viking Funeral in the last tree, and would function similar to the Nightstalker's Smoke Grenade. If you are in proximity, you take damage over time, once you leave the area you no longer take damage (unless Touch of Flame is selected).
It would act as a deterrent, keeping enemies away from key areas. A perk like this would immediately bring exotics like Apotheosis Veil back into the game. This perk would be just as strong of a choice as Fireborn and Radiant Skin.
Just some general little perk changes I feel like Sunsinger needs changed.
Solar Wind:
- The effect now works similar to a Taken Phalanx shield push. Increases range, but reduces damage. (This perk is just bad. It needs to do something else.)
Flame Shield:
- Revert the change to its cooldown. Flame Shield has had several nerfs, the shield itself is nothing special and it doesn't apply immediately. The increased cooldown is unnecessary.
Firebolts:
- Revert the changes to Firebolt grenades. I am not asking for them to bring back the burn, simply go back on the changes to the radius and its arming time. Firebolt Grenades are perhaps the worst grenade in the game in their current state.
Solar Grenades:
- Viking Funeral can apply the burn at any time during the grenades duration. Not just the start. (Will not stack up to 3 times with one grenade. It will however keep the effect delayed).
Brimstone:
- Enemies caught in the blast radius but not killed are ignited.
- If an enemy burns to death, they explode via Brimstone.
Song of Flame:
- Increase the radius of the effect.
- Also show a visible cue that you are under the buff. (Similar to Skorri's Artifact).
Angel of Light:
- Increase duration from 3 seconds to 5.
- Allow the user full horizontal movement while aiming. (Basically you can strafe in the air as long as you aim). This change can also be applied to the Empyrean Bellicose Titan helmet.
These changes would allow Sunsinger to fit a more supportive role. Gathering allies together with Song of Flame and keeping enemies away with Inferno and Solar Wind, while still allowing the possibility of being a tanky rusher like a Defender with a Force Barrier focus.

2 RepliesInferno, on paper, seems drastically overpowered. The radius seems much too large and I feel the constant damage would kinda make stormcaller useless. Instead of inferno dealing damage, perhaps make everyone in that exact same radius heal? Or perhaps even.... slightly higher armor? I don't have an answer to that. Maybe if it's low-damage output at low ticks? Maybe a radius reduction? a ward of dawn and a half seems much to large is all. DEFINITELY love the idea though. Also, I want my damn flame shield back at it's prime. I loved old firebolts WITHOUT BURN but I know titans and hunters would get all butthurt about a decent grenade being given back to a warlock. Titans get OP lightning grenades and hunters get wombo... The crutches are real. I want my cruches back too >:l The problem in trials was self rez/RAM/firebolt/burn combo. They nerfed our armor, the ram, the grenade, the melee shield, the melee cooldown, AND the burn. Really all they had to do was nerf the ram and the burn and people would have been fine.

All I need is for solar wind to work on allies again then I'm set.

1 Replygood post - exactly what i was looking for. i love sunsingers and its been the only class ive played for a while now. i find the class completely viable in pve, though id love to see some tweaks. my issues with the class are in pvp, with radiance. if we are going to have a super (like a defender) that very well might not kill anybody, we could at least have much higher armor while radiant. ive been one hit killed even with a flame shield on top of active super. completely agree that there should be an AoE burn around me while radiant. that being said, using the Memory of Felwinter artifact, taking the super out of the equation completely is becoming my favorite way to play the crucible.

2 RepliesI agree with all of this. Sunsinger has been my baby since Day One, and I'm tired of being left in the dust. #MakeSunsingersGreatAgain

5 RepliesSunsingers should be able to throw unlimited grenades during its duration. If a HoS can throw unlimited hammers until it runs out then a sunsinger should be able to do the same with inaccurate grenades.

6 RepliesI'm conflicted here. On one side of the coin sunsinger could absolutely use a buff. On the other hand part of, whenever I see these "buff sunsinger" posts I can't help but think you guys are honestly, and no offense meant here, being whining little entitled kids. Look at it this way there are some classes that aren't even viable period In pve. Take bladedancer for example, even if invisibility was enough to make it viable in high end content, any person using it would be immediately ejected unless he switched to nightstalkers. Or take strikers, they have one thing remotely going for them in pve and that's flashbang, even then smoke has the exact same thing but twice, no screw that, a million times better, and it boils down to the same thing has bladedancer, you'd be laughed out of the raid for choosing it over ward of dawn. Meanwhile sunsinger is currently 1/3rd of the equation for the highest damaging build in the game. Be grateful you guys even get the option to use your subclass in high end content. I'd actually love to run my striker in high end content, but using its super on anything other than trash mobs that one head shot could dispatch with is suicide. Flashbang has okay use, but smoke trivializes it.

2 RepliesWarlock: bungie can't be creative so we get garbage -blam!-ing exotics.

1 ReplyCompletely agree, but Inferno seems kinda of OP on paper.

2 RepliesJust waiting for the exotic that provides angel of light for free.

Yeah I'd be fine with that

1 ReplyI used sunsinger for about a week straight to test different builds and there really weren't any for PvE. Were as bubble or tether you can just hit a boss once or strafe in and out of a bubble Sunsinger has to constantly land grenades, stick grenades of they use the best one which is extremely inefficient. My thought is this is the overall problem as to why sunsinger can't be a good support subclass. My suggestion is combine song of flame and viking funeral. while song of flame is active all near by allies deal increased damage and all abilities recharge faster. The damage could be like 15% extra so not as effective as the others but it would stack with at least tether or bubble and the recharging abilities would be great especially if it did supers. In the space of viking funeral i'd suggest something like increasing the duration of radiance. Radiant would then be changed to make grenades and melee use a reduced amount of super energy. This would mean in pvp if you use self res or radiant skin you could select radiant and use your super more offensivley but in PvE it would simply last longer meaning you could buff your team mates for longer.

2 RepliesLet me think about it
No.
-
5 RepliesSunsinger was specifically made for bad players who need all the armor they can get, along with a self rez for when they die to thrall and shanks. They have viking funeral so the noobs playing them can have an excuse for using the class. The other two classes are sooooo much better, but due to the fact that 99% of the players using them are girls/noobs, you never really see them used.

2 RepliesI would love this to happen, and it looks very balanced.
-
1 ReplyI like everything except for Inferno. I personally it should have a more supportive/defensive perk rather than an offensive. Say like, a constant shield and health regen. Constantly getting health back could mean you could mean infinite health and shields for the duration of the super.
-
2 RepliesGood ideas but the odds of Bungie reverting any of the changes any time soon is pretty low. Also:
Firebolt Grenades are perhaps the worst grenade in the game
have you seen swarms? And pulse grenades? Vortex? Those grenades are trash.
-
1 ReplyGreat ideas, but I have a question. If you had an inferno around you, what would the melee be used for? People would just run away. I think they were all great ideas except for that one. My idea was greatly increased agility when in radiance, so basically heart of the praxic fire as a perk. In turn, the exotic chest armor would do something else. (Not sure what, because all my ideas for it seem to OP)
-
1 ReplyI think the damage over time node you suggested replace self rez would be too op if it slowed people down but great ideas. There's literally only 1 build anybody uses with sun singer. This would create more variety
-
1 ReplyGreat ideas. I was thinking that Solar Wind could use extended range (comparable to Stormcaller's Amplitude in order to make the knock back more effective at keeping shotgunners away. Also, Angel of Light could really use an overshield while airborne.
