I have been grinding strikes to get engrams to save for Rise of Iron, and I'm contemplating if that is a good move or a failure. I want to jump into Sept. 20 with some new exotics and high level items, but I don't want to grind if it's all for some crappy year 2 exotics.
Edit: Thanks for all the comments! There is definitely controversy over the topic itself, but I guess there will be no TRUE answer until Sept. 20 or if Bungie clearly says engrams from pre-rise of iron will turn into rise of iron gear and light.
Also, from what I'm hearing, even if they don't become RoI exotics, I'm still getting cryptarch rep and could get some new gear from that. So it's a win/win
-
No you can't get new gear but ppl are forgetting u can get 5 ll higher out of exotics, think ppl think!! It's not purely random like it was in the past!
-
Power level with those Exotics! Not only with the rep but Exotics should drop higher than your light!
-
2 RepliesWhy bother saving? You'll definitely get everything in the first few weeks of you consistently play. We can expect around three or four Exotic pieces per Class, and no more than seven Exotic weapons if they're generous

Just recently discovered that we are going to be able to infuse our current gear with Rise of Iron stuff, so will the engrams still remain Y2 if that is the way it's gonna work?

HELP Also, is it the same concept with legendaries?[/quote] I hot about 100 saved up lol. Worst case: ill get 100 exotic shards when the DLC drops.

Tons of people say engrams don't give DLC items. However, after opening the engrams I saved back before HoW, I got multiple of the new exotics. This could have changed, but I'd recommend saving the engrams just in case. Besides, not like you need 50 exotic shards anyways.

6 RepliesEdited by tajBADKJ: 8/1/2016 1:15:40 AMYou will not get any new gear or higher light. You will get shards and glimmer, and that is it since it will be old gear at old light levels so you will dismantle it anyways. Paid DLC will not give you new gear for old engrams, updates like the 1 in april is not a paid DLC so old engrams will give new gear and higher light level. Not 1 engram from vanilla Destiny gave TDB gear,no engram from the TDB DLC gave HoW gear, and no HoW engrams gave TTK gear. Those engrams from farming the chests the week before HoW do not count as they where HoW engrams that you could not decrypt till HoW actually came out a week later.

Why not
-
You might only get yr 2 guns but I'm doing it because I'm thinking the light level will be above current so still worth saving, besides I have every exotic so why not try this
-
Yep. Thats what i do. Going to put everything to rank it up.
-
I am starting to save exotic engrams and legendary ones for ROI. That way when the new dlc hits I can rank up cryptard and have a bunch of legendary engrams to turn into marks to buy some new stuff. If I get some higher light exotics it'll be a bonus.
-
There's a lot of different ideas on this. I'd personally believe they're predetermined. But my idea was to get all my relevant factions to just a hair under leveling up so when Rise came I'd level them all up for shiny new Rise gear.
-
3 RepliesEngrams are pre-determined when they drop. So you'll only get year 2 exotics.
-
It most likely won't work, but if you already have every exotic you may as well save a few. At the very least they'll help you rank up with the Cryptarc after the dlc drops and you'll get some shards.
-
I would save a couple. 1 or 2 of each type. Because why the hell not? You never know Getting close to ranking up in Vanguard and Crucible prior to release date could help too! Maybe there will be new rewards
-
You can use them for Cryptarch rep however they will still only drop TTK exotics.
-
-
Don't save them. They will only contain TTK rewards
-
2 RepliesNo matter what anyone says the answer no one knows. I mean it worked for the last April update but Rise of Iron is a expansion so it might not work, but maybe it will. One thing is for sure if you already got what you want exotic wise it doesn't hurt to save them and wait and see
-
I'm pretty sure they are locked in this time
-
1 ReplyI wouldn't because then there goes all the grind for the whole new dlc, which in my opinion ruins the fun.

2 RepliesEdited by Fdubb5: 7/31/2016 11:35:38 PMBecause one of my friends saved legendaries from The Dark Below to House of Wolves and he got House of Wolves gear.
-
I'm saving for year ten or Destiny 3. However you look at it
-
You get old gear. And not at a higher light level. If you're saving them; do it for shards, legendary marks, weapon/armor parts, or cryptarch leveling..
-
You'll most likely get yr 2 gear at yr 2 level. But still save them and see, worst case is you'll rank up your cryptarch a few times which can bring new gear in itself, plus strange coins and moats of light.
