The issue isn't that shotgunners would hate it.
It's that every fanboy has a sniper rifle. The undeserved glamour and mystique of these weapons means every twelve year old secretly fancies themselves some kind of elite sniper. They jump at every opportunity to 'prove' this (generally by losing control games).
So big, open maps can't exist. Everyone will just spam snipers and wreck the pace of the game. Which is a shame because the movement, radar, vehicles and weapons all seem designed with large maps in mind.
If snipers were a heavy on the other hand...

While playing on these maps in classic 6v6 I've noticed very little of people actually camping on edge of map at all. Sure I run with a sniper but I also don't run and try and camp, ammo supply just isn't what it used to be so campers can't stay out there long. Unless they are running year one ice breaker.

According to the boards though nobody is a camping sniper. Everybody is the run and gun type, and has a million internet. Despite this campers and lag both remain common.

Edited by Lull9: 7/29/2016 7:45:19 AMActually, in Control on the big maps, the team with the most snipers usually loses. This us because they all want to camp on the edges of the map and not play the objective. The hilarious thing is that scoping a doorway or hallway is easy as -blam!-. Hitting someone in some random spot is harder. All the little MLG wannabes can't hit shit in the open. Long range Scouts are actually the most effective, usually.
