Bungie, perhaps you should take a step back from the rotating meta philosophy of weapon balance. You're not seeing the forest for the trees.
You could "solve" PvP weapon balance with better - MUCH BETTER! - map rotation. With all maps in every rotation, no weapon or weapon class would be overpowered.
There. Done. That was easy. Weapon balance achieved through map diversity. (Of course, continued monitoring of weapon data would be necessary to evaluate weapon usage in the new, expanded-map environment)
So what do you say Bungie? Instead of continuing to force the highly unpopular, arguably broken policy of the shifting meta based on weapon usage stats, why not simply expand (maximize) the number of maps in every PvP game mode?
Seems to me you should try this before nerfing any more gear. I can guarantee you that increasing map diversity in an effort to avoid future nerfs would be very well received by the Community.
Edit: What map would YOU like to see? Post it, and I'll add it to the list...
1. A map set at night, or, nighttime versions of each map.
2. A vertical map, like one set in the tower in Cade's Stash, or the ramps and rooms setting of Cabal ships.
3. The Gorgon's Labyrinth.
4. The Buried City.
5. A shifting maze.
6. Dynamic weather.
7. A cave system.
8. Waterworks from Halo 2.
9. A map full of teleporters and launch pads.
10. Epitaph from Halo 3.
11. Random incursions of PvE enemies.
12. Crota's Arena.

How about the Bottom of the Well from OoT, complete with invisible walls, fake floors, Wallmasters, and ReDeads?

1 ReplyYou could have 100 maps, but if the maps aren't balanced or well designed, you still won't have balanced and diverse gameplay...
-
6 Repliesthey could have 100 maps and you would still get a 5 map rotation
-
1 ReplyI think Crota's arena could be a decent map if it received some tweaks in its basic geometry.

It's why halo 5 is better when it comes to more content

1 ReplyWell they obviously haven't figured yet the fact that as long as they have a "ranking" system for weapons that goes from common to exotic there will never be balance, but being a core part of the game they can't remove it, so yes this might be a solution, and way easier to implement than rotating metas, because every player must adapt to different situations given the different scenario settings, but THAT is WAY off the limits for Destiny, may be, just MAYBE you will see it in Destiny 2 (doubtful but many ppl here have hops :P)

a map set where anyone who shoots a sniper instantly explodes and dies? is that allowable? if so can we apply it in every single map lol for me the cave system one would be fun. there is already the gorgons maze in the VoG. maybe that could be fitted out for a pvp style map.

1 ReplyWith the current range drops, damages, and stabilities of the current weapons, I'm not sure how well they'd be able to keep up in a Bastion like map these days.

agreed

2 RepliesI have always felt that maps were a problem from day one. Asides from a couple maps in vanilla like Bastion and First Light, there really weren't that many maps available for medium ranged combat. Everything was either extreme CQC like Twilight Gap, Annex, and Blind Watch or a snipe fest with Shores of Time, Pantheon, and Rusted Lands. People always complained about shotgun usage, but I always believed that was more a factor of the maps themselves than anything. Had there been more medium sized indoor areas that were able to negate snipers, but had enough of a range to allow primaries to easily take down constant shotgun usage, the shotgun problem could have been mitigated or even entirely eliminated as it would not be the end all solution for all maps.

1 ReplySnipers should be long ranged heavy precision weapons not CQC light weight scout rifle type weapons in everyone's hands, you know, as said in a previous Bungie stream. Once they figure that out and tame it quite a bit, then I'll believe there will be true balance one day.

1 ReplyNot only is this a very good idea but you have presented it in a well formulated and adult manner. Very refreshing to read, especially on this forum. Sincerely hopes Bungie pays attention to this and at least brings it up for discussion :) You have my bump friend! S

THANK YOU!!! Bungie made the game and they don't understand this logic???

I'd like to see a medium sized map based inside a Cabal or Hive ship. A labyrinth of small rooms and tight corridors. Bust out the shotguns and fusion rifles, kids.

3 RepliesAnd remove MIDA from year 2. Dont bring it forward again. Love the weapon to death, but i am tired if it overpowering everything in IB
-
3 RepliesOr even put every map they have In equal rotation, it seems like there's only three maps when I play crucible now. I get pumped when I get burning shrine or cauldron for control, there's a lot maps that rarely see the light of day anymore.

I see your point on more maps balancing weapons. However, I personally do not think more maps would balance weapons, but I would still like to see new maps. Epitaph from Halo 3 would be nice, loved that map
-
1 ReplyI really want a vertical map. I enjoy being a high agility Sunsinger and I'd love a vertical map.

1 Reply👍🏻 good idea

11 RepliesThe only problem with this is scout rifles own medium to long range hell even close range depending what gun while every other gun is garbage at range

5 RepliesBumped. Agree with this post. Rather than playing the "meta" players should be playing the maps. I.E., players should be playing the combat situations each map will present. Rather than have one set of weapons that will dominate a short period of time, regardless of map, they just need to vary the size, cover, etc. to encourage different styles of play. Ultimately, what weapons we take into combat should remain a player's choice, not the Dev's choice dictated by what the current meta is.
-
4 RepliesHow would the map change anything? Most people who play the Meta will use the same loadout on any map and perform better than those who don't so why would the map change anything?
-
More maps would be great, but i dont see how they would impact weapon balance. People will camp whatever section of the map fits their preferred weapon. It happens in every map.
