Exotic shard farming method, what did I do wrong?
I saw a post on buying and dismantling exotics to get exotic shards. I thought the process was like this.
1) Buy a heavy weapon exotic from the kiosk.
2) Buy a heavy weapon telemetry from the gun smith.
3) Upgrade the heavy with 6 motes of light.
4) Dismantle it and get two exotic shards.
I can't find the post and I must have missed something. Buying the exotic takes a shard and I only got one shard back. So I assume I need to actually do the upgrade of it and not just enable the upgrade circles. Is that it or did I miss something else?

You don't need the telemetry but you have to fully up grade it to get the two shards. You can do that with motes a lot faster than a telemetry. Truth takes less motes to level up.

I'll also suggest equipping any unleveled gear when doing this, as the XP from those motes will also go into that gear as well and you're not just burning motes for the shard farm :-)

2 RepliesJust need to make sure that the weapon has enough experience for all nodes to be unlocked; you don't actually fill them though. The best weapon to use is a year 2 truth---don't use a year 1 weapon as they'll take more XP to level.

1 ReplyHaving a class item with rocket launcher/ machine gun focus. It may not be 6 motes, use motes until you don't need anymore.
