If you have the strange coins, you can buy heavy ammo syntheses from Xûr and exchange them all for a faction. As well as motes of light and other things to exchange. It took me 500+ strange coins to go from rank 3 to 25.

Cool. Actually thought it would cost more, so that's good. Thx. I only started recently, I actually buy exotics from Xur lol. I use motes to rank up, but they're easy to get, buying is a huge waste.
