You have to go to dreadnaught first a new icon will appear there then once completed you have to collect 20 shards from taken enemies anywhere. Then the strike will appear on moon.
First accept the quest from variks and proceed with the 3 steps

The quest is not appearing at Variks. Once I go to the dreadnaught will it appear? And thank you for the help.

No you have to get the quest first from variks then the mission will be highlighted on the dreadnaught

Once your done collecting the shards you go see Eris in the tower, not Variks

Go and play PoE.. Heaps taken there Quicker to get essence

Thats how i did with mine then go poe for quick essence finding. Then do quest.
