I can't believe my eyes... Id software, the pioneers of the FPS genre and Arena shooters actually turned Doom into a Call of Duty hybrid.
“We weren’t happy with the game that was being made,” he said of the decision to kill the project. “We decided that it wasn’t Doom enough and needed to be thrown out and started over. Some folks left and some faces changed at the studio. Out of that change — which was not easy for those guys to go through — some amazing things happened.” -Bethesda
As far as I'm concerned loudouts and perks are from CALL OF DUTY! I just can't express my disappointment guys... I thought Doom was going to be the game that would revive Arena multiplayer and with all of it's advertisement it would have been a big part of the game. Seems like it's just another CoD clone. Why can't it be a Quake clone instead? I'd rather have that than another CoD hybrid. Halo 4 did this too and guess what? People hated the multiplayer! So why are ID software and Bethesda going down a similar path that 343 and Microsoft went down?
Anyway I'm still getting the game for the single player and I hope they deliver there.
If you don't understand what I mean this guy does a good job explaining exactly how I feel...

EDIT: I'll be honest with you guys, I don't mean it's a complete CoD rip off, just more of a hybrid between Doom and arcade/casual shooters like Battlefield and CoD with the inclusion of loudouts and Hack modules (Which will be in the full game).

1 ReplyOh FFS... This is exactly what I'm talking about when I say gamers as a whole complain about everything no matter what. As far as I'm concerned, Doom 4 IS the goddamn saving grace for the old style shooter mechanic wise. Just because you pick your starter weapons doesn't mean it's "a CoD clone".

2 RepliesITT: Nerds getting upset over video games.
-
2 RepliesHave you even played the game? If you thought it was anything Call of Duty you need to re-evaluate yourself.

2 RepliesEdited by logan678910 65: 4/9/2016 7:00:00 AMDoom has always been a quick shooter. I'm happy with how it is. There are too many slow games out there.

Well it is being made by the guys who did the mp for the halo collection.

5 RepliesEdited by Ze TacoLover: 4/10/2016 4:41:19 AMBattlefield has loadouts and perks..RIPPED OFF COD I THINK SO!!

Isn't this footage of the scrapped version. Where they said it was scrapped because it felt like a call of duty with a doom skin? If this is not scrapped footage and is current I'm going to be extremely disappointed. You cant call a game an arena shooter when you start with all weapons and earn perks the longer you play.
-
3 RepliesThey made it this way so the new generation of CoD playing brain dead idiots would buy it. I agree it does feel like a hybrid but I found the Multiplayer enjoyable

I'm not hyped for this game at all. I read from the developers themselves it can be beaten in under thirteen hours, the campaign I mean. Also the old school mechanics like no reloading and no auto health regen I feel will probably turn off the modern gamer who has since become spoiled to accommodations like those.

4 RepliesEdited by Gagoosey: 4/8/2016 10:37:08 PMAlso the player models are so similar to halo.

Whoa whoa whoa. I LIKE Halo 4/5 mp. Pump the brakes son.

2 RepliesI actually liked the Halo 4 multiplayer tbh.

1 ReplyThat video killed my hype. I didn't know that there were classes and perks. Same mistakes halo 4 made. Reach too but that was excusable for a spinoff.

Edited by TreeMan_X: 4/9/2016 4:58:22 PMOnce they fix the laggers and one bars teleporting around and one shotting me before they can even get within range and lagging their way first to the demon, it'll be fine, until then this shit is way too -blam!-ing laggy!!

I don't think this new doom is anything close to halo 4. The perks actually made a difference in that game. And load outs made a much bigger impact in that game. I played a lot of the closed beta. The movement is very arena. None of the load out weapons are automatic picks. (Though the one shot charge sniper annoys me.). Hack mods are basically just information. Unless they add more hack mods I really don't see any issues. The only iffy one is starting with armor. But the amount is so small it would never make a difference. Like you can memorize the timers. Or use a hack mod to do it for you. No biggie. To me this is like a mash up of doom, quake/ unreal tournament. With some modern cosmetic options like emotes and changing your armor/weapon skins. Sure it's not true doom. But what did you expect? Any game brought up from the past always gets modern influence. Because we all know if anything was just a straight port it wouldn't have aged well. And wouldn't sell well. I'd just accept the fact that its still closer to what doom used to be. Things could have been a lot worse.

1 ReplyEdited by TotallyNotDrew: 4/8/2016 9:22:00 PMDoesn't matter what you say OP. Most people will ignore on the basis of it being advertised as a "revival" when really it's the same butchering Halo 4's multiplayer was. Edit: In case anyone actually cares, as it seems most replies have been very ignorant as to what an arena shooter is, an arena shooter is based around balance. Equal starts, symmetrical maps, same abilities for everyone. This Doom doesn't have equal starts and gives players random advantages based off those "hack modules". It shares more similarities to an "arcade shooter", hence why OP compared it to the most popular arcade shooter to date, CoD. Arcade shooters aren't bad per se, but seeing as this is supposed to be a throwback to old school competitive games like Quake and Unreal, Doom shouldn't incorporate arcade shooter features.

1 ReplyI know I hate it when someone calls in an AC-130 on me >:(
-
Except all anyone did was play custom rocket only games so I don't really see the issue here. Your "loadout" was just the map itself. It's about as arena as anything will ever get again.
-
4 RepliesI love the ability of loadouts. I don't care if it's too CoD like its gr8
-
1 ReplyI completely agree with OP. Loadouts have no place in a game being advertised as an Arena FPS.
-
I never used hack modules. They were rather useless and didn't affect me that much when playing.
-
2 RepliesTo me, it's pretty much a fast-paced FPS Gears of War. Shotguns are the most used weapon like in Gears.
-
4 RepliesIt really wasn't CoD though the Mechanics are completely different, I'd consider custom classes a convenience to fps's
-
36 RepliesIt does seem like another Quake as opposed to DOOM, but nothing like CoD. Load outs are not CoD exclusive, and does it matter if it is in DOOM? It does not break the game.
-
4 RepliesThe fu€k you mean there's perks in DOOM? There's no damn perks in Doom. Did you even play the beta? There's hack modules but those aren't really perks since you have limited uses on them.
-
1 ReplyTf did you expect?
