The story should have been part of the gameplay. More explanation in cutscenes etc.

That's the problem with so many movies these days. They have characters explaining things in the film that both they and the characters they're talking to fully understand but the audience might be clueless, so they explain it anyways. Alot of the time it just takes away from the flow of the film and story, sometimes it makes the audience feel like the film makers think they're dumb babies who need everything explained to them. Part if great, not just good, story telling is leaving stuff out. Keeping the reader/viewer guessing as to what is going on. The history of what happened in Destiny is probably held in partial mystery because I'm betting there is something that happened that Bungie won't reveal until later and will be one of those "Oh snap!" moments.

That's exactly what it shouldn't be.

Why not?
-
That's not how Destiny is meant to be. Not every game has to follow the same way of storytelling.

From that point of view I agree. I just like good cinematics.
-
It has some pretty good ones, but not many. I agree that more cinematic wouldn't be a bad thing.

Exactly, it shows us more of our guardian and gives it more personality. The cinematics should be made so you'd want to read the grimoire.
