Never play on one save file, always have multiple and save at least every 15 minutes.
Bethesda games are notoriously buggy so if you end up with a corrupt save you can delete it and still have plenty more to fall back on. Saving regularly stops you losing too much game time.

This is the second time I've had to redownload FO4, the game just breaks at times. Audio cutting out and sometimes I can't get any textures other then models to load until I hard reset my Xbox. I had the same experience in Fallout 3
