The truth about "sweaty" players

The term sweaty players came from some kid who clearly couldn't compete with higher skilled players. So to make himself feel better he started using a term to refer to people who were better than him. Rather than striving to get better he'd rather those players be envied and looked at negatively. Why has the younger generation become such whiny emotional weak people. There once was a time everyone fed off their natural competitive nature and you earned everything. Nothing was handed to you. You kids are thinking you're entitled to things you did not earn because of how you were raised. I'm sorry to say but your entitled to nothing without earning it. "Sweaty" players strive for success and put time in to be as good as they are at the game. "Sweaty" players still have fun playing just as some of you. I have fun winning just like every competitive player does. I also can enjoy a came I lose bc it's against a good team and is very heated and exciting. Don't hate on the people in the community that care about winning and try when they play. Just because you can't compete with us doesn't mean you try to bring us down. How about you spend your time practicing and get better so that you can compete with us. If you don't want to do that then why waste time complaining about nerfing and how things are unfair? You obviously care about the game. There are several comments below proving my point that people do use sweaty in a negative manner. Apparently if you are a "sweaty" you throw temper tantrums and break everything if you lose. I wouldn't have an issue with the term if it was actually intended to be a compliment. It is okay for people to want to be above average and excel at everything they do including a video game. That doesn't make them any less of a person. So saying you'd rather focus on your grades and "sweaty" players don't is a very invalid argument. I carry just under a 4.0 gpa in college with one semester left. I work full time as a manager while still going to school full time. I don't no life the game and spend hours upon hours grinding away. Being a "sweaty" player doesn't mean you have no life and every other absurd status that goes along with it. About the work ethic.....Correct me if I'm wrong, but work ethic entails how hard and how much effort you put into something regardless if it is your job, a sport, a relationship, or working out..... Everyone of those your intent is to succeed and perform great. So yes you can have work ethic in video game and there is nothing wrong with wanting to win and be better than the week before. About the younger generation... you see it everywhere about the concerns and issues that are coming from high schools. The reason I bring up the younger generation is because they make up quite a large portion of the community. Updated to reword since some people are missing the point

  • Honestly, I match up against full teams in just about any multiplayer game I can think of. I can never enjoy the PvP experience when I solo queue, I always need a good teammate to communicate with. Meaning that having casual matches these days requires a bit of effort to find, IMO.

  • Idk what the deal with all these comments are XD I'm 16 and I know my generation is trash, we do stupid shit. (although every generation of teenagers are basically known for doing stupid shit lol) A lot of this is true, "sweaty,"" players, "tryhards," its all the same. some people are better at the game than others and rather than demonizing these people, we should aspire to get to that level. And for the casual players, no rush! don't get hung up on it! I'm a trash can and I accept it. I do however wish to be better that's for sure. That's the attitude we should all have on life! Someone also mentioned that after losing to severely better players than themselves, received a "t-bag," look man. It is, a video game. Some times when i feel like it, even though i do bad in a game, i bag just for fun! it creates an even more fun time! especially when you're losing, bag it up man, whatever. I dunno why bagging in video games offends people so dearly so consistently. That seems to be the gist of how I feel, I'm sure ill receive comments from offended people and they'll remind me of more points or thoughts. Just - have a fun time you guys. Pls.

      • Lol. This whole community is dominated by sweaties who think everyone should bow down and bungie should cater to them because they're so good at twiddling a joystick. Most of them probably couldn't read or write a line of code if it bit them in the ass but suddenly they're experts on how bungie should do everything. Then you play games against them and they tbag when they win and complain about scrub weapons or scrub grenades or sbmm or red bars when they lose. The term sweaty wasn't even intended as an insult but the douchebag behavior you see from so many of them is giving them a bad name. Oh, but congratulations on your 4.0, that is a real accomplishment.

          • I don't get mad at you when you beat me... I just rage every time I die because its frustrating trying to get a kill when I'm just getting destroyed. I'm a decent player but that doesn't mean I don't get angry or frustrated when I'm getting beat. I agree with you tho about people blaming you rather than trying to get better.

I read i read and i read this is interesting but i have few more questions... I just wanted to know... how can we "name" that kind of """ppplaaaayers""" ? ---> Respawn and crouch at the first second of a match, grab a sniper and wait until the other players find a way to kill them.. ---> Give up and run to not facing the fight that happen.. And many more... So... How can they be satisfied at the end of a match..? What kind of satisfaction they have ? Do they tell to each other "Yeah mate ! we are the best, our strategy is so complicated and so faiiir !" That kind of "players" don't know the offensive, they just let you the keys in your hands to let you find the right way to "pick" the "lock" and they just close the doors after doors after doors.. Because this is too difficult for them to make a simple strategy (Walk/Run and try to kill an opponent with dignity) the only way to make them move their ass from their hiding is to hide yourself and wait for them or snipe them.. but that kill the game ! x_x that's so freaking crazy to see that...! even when you play the new "Crucible Valentine's Day 2v2" mode. I've play 10 games and on 10 games i've played versus " That kind of 'players' " and on 10 games i've seen 8 """players""" with the "THORN" and the "ICE BREAKER" Ice Breaker for what ? Why ? Because the ammo of the Ice breaker is infinite and respawn in your pocket ! so you don't have to catch a box of ammo you just have to sit behind a tree and wait... During 6 month i didn't seen thoses two exotics weapons and for that Valentine's Day Crucible ? Tadaaaaaa ! to be sure to not loose.... For this Valentine's Party They take your heart and show you that this great game can be destroyed by their brilliant way to be lame. Really... This is the biggest "DarkHorse" of multiplayer games. These people do not deserve to be encouraged , because this video game brings enormous enjoyable and cheerful communities and real players. Please stop being a zer0. Be a proud hero.

            • Whenever I come up against a team that stomps my guts out, I always stay in the same lobby because I have an intense desire to compete against someone and to beat them. I've noticed a lot of whiney kids, who complain, or worse give up when they face someone better than them. I think I see it more now because I don't have anything else to compete in. No more sports to play on a consistent basis, so gaming is what a lot of former athletes do to fill that need to compete. I think those pkayers have always been there, but there wasn't really a "community." I remember running up against those types in Halo 2 and 3, but I also wasnt on a forum about the gamr at that time.

              • "Sweaty" is not how you described it. When two very good teams go up against each other in a high stakes match, the resulting game is extremely competitive. Each team must play their best and there is pressure on each player. Thus, for various reasons, the players hands began to sweat slightly. This was a universal experience during these sorts of matches, causing them to be dubbed "sweats" or "sweaties". Much like MLG, this term was used by casual players to describe people who beat them or people who tried hard, insinuating that the winners must each be "sweaty". In other words, they play non stop and try really hard. In my opinion, there's nothing wrong with that. If you've never been in a match like that, I highly recommend it; it's extremely satisfying whether you win or lose to have such a competitive game.

              • Also: another post about how the younger generation sucks. I guarantee you your generation had your fair share of problems too. And dont forget: children arent born entitled, theyre raised entitled, so really, arent the parents the problem?

              • Playing to win is fine. Some characteristics of sweaties are: -will rage quit when down 3-1 or basically anytime they aren't winning every single round -kick you out of a fireteam with no warning when they sprint to the middle of the map and die from a sniper because you didn't "cover them" -tell you about how they solo the lighthouse all the time and you better not "hold them back" Basically anyone who takes this stuff way too seriously and can't just accept that they get beat sometime. Also anyone who feels the need to berate their teammates. Most of the game modes are not Trials serious. There are already people taking Crimson Days way, way, way too seriously.

              • If you are a good player by default and play for fun you're, as you can guess, a good player. If you are a good player and play like your -blam!-ing life depends on it you are a sweaty. Easy as that. One is good. One is bad. Sometimes I feel like people think they spontaneously fall dead when you lose a game.

Nope. Honestly haven't seen a crucible post more wrong than yours, so congrats for that. "Sweaty" is a completely applicable term for people who take video games too seriously, and in general any competition too seriously. Sweaties are the kind of people who throw their furniture across the room because their favorite football team lost, who hit their console with a golf club when they get a negative K/D, and ESPECIALLY who treat everyone who isn't as good as them with complete disrespect. Sweaties like you think that winning is the only way to have fun on a video game, and completely reject the reward and exclusivity aspect the Destiny has and just use the easiest weapons to get kills with. I have a good K/D, but I typically lose every game I play. I don't use meta weapons or find fireteams whenever I want to play crucible. I play solo and play with bad teammates and sometimes get the sh*t kicked out of me. I still have fun. My life goes on. Now, when my college exams come around, THAT'S when I take things seriously. Learn the difference between life and games, bud. You can say that you have a "work ethic", but really you're just some loser with a superiority complex who wants to be better than everyone at EVERYTHING. The only joy you find in life is beating others and looking down on them, and that's sad.

                • I find it very amusing to be told the "truth" by kids that still think a 4.0 GPA in today's watered down education system is worth bragging about. Most colleges these days are just an extended pre-k program for young people with entitlement issues.
