Scrub Strategies: Why are shotgun campers considered scrubs while sniper rifle campers are not? VOTE!

Camping is a legitimate and effective strategy.

Shotguns are high risk/high reward weapons. Sniper rifles are low risk/high reward weapons. Some shotgunners crouch-camp corners and choke points from high risk positions. Most snipers hard-scope-camp corners and choke points from very low risk positions. Shotgunners are called no-skill scrubs for camping corners and choke points. Snipers are not…yet. Now, if you’re a sniper, you may already say that the above comparisons are flawed. To which I would respond: Okay, how are they inaccurate? This is not a nerf sniper rifles post. Instead, I'm simply asking for logical justification why it seems widely acceptable to vilify shotgunners while snipers are (or have been; I think the perception of snipers in Destiny is changing right now) put up on a pedestal. Full disclosure, I love using shotguns in PvP and PvE. Perhaps it’s in-part because I’m a shotgun shooter in real life. In the game, I enjoy close-quarter combat, shotgun/melee combos. I have no interest in sitting at the back of the map, largely out of harm’s way, sniping people. Nor do I think poorly of those who do. To the contrary, I love having great snipers on my team! So, let me know what you think. Which is the scrubbier tactic: shotgun camping or sniper rifle camping? Or, is camping of any kind a scrubby tactic? Or, is camping simply an effective tactic that people hate because it’s effective? Does the effectiveness of camping need to be addressed? If so, how? While I recognize this may be a volatile issue, let’s try to keep the discussion respectable. I’m not trying to insult snipers as much as I am challenging the widely-held view that somehow shotgunners are lesser than. Edited for typos.

 • Legitimate: sure. People may not like it but it's not exploitation or cheating. It's using what is there in a normal fashion. I think people call it a "scrub" tactic because it requires little work to get the jump on someone. By sitting in one spot, you only have to worry about someone appearing in your sights. You're not focused on moving or looking around; just what is in front of you and your radar (if you're smart). Anyone can camp. Not everyone can camp well. Effective: questionable. I may get killed by a camper once, even twice, but then I'll learn and not go down that path again. As with anything, player adaptation is the responsibility of the player.
