I have my Titan since day one, my stats are only a bit higher than 1.0 kd... (First months I was terrible)... I created a second account (I bought a second ps4 and did the refer a friend thing) where my kd is above 2.5 I don't care if my stats on my main account look low, I know I'm good at this game and I've done everything that can be done in destiny, trials, raids, grimoire etc. People will always look at your stats so it's up to you, but for me: I'll keep killing people that seems to have higher stats and think they have more skill and then get crushed by me :3
