The SRL was marketed as taking skill and only rewarding the best sparrow drivers out there.
This is not true.
Sparrow Racing rewards those lucky enough to push someone out of a boost gate. That's it. No skill.
I'd win all my races if sparrows didn't have collision. I always have the early lead, but with the person tailing behind? They start to bump into the back of my sparrow which sends it careening off into the wild.
It's ridiculous how many races I lost to luck and not skill.
What do you think? Should collision be turned off?

Muted for being a moaning idiot who missed point of a death race

Cause you suck

Someone beat me. Must be because of luck. "Sparrow Racing rewards those lucky enough to push someone out of a boost gate. That's it. No skill." - Funny, denying your opponent something that would benefit them when you can't see their boundaries does seem like skill to me. Let me guess, when something kills you in the crucible it's OP and must be nerfed?
-
Just learn how to race on the maps..you aren't suppose to go for every single gate. I win most of my races by hitting 55-60 gates.
-
Hmm, agree to disagree with this, noted you can get some bullshit happen to you every now and again, the majority of it is skill, there is a reason why players are at the top all of them time, because they have raced well and have taken the shortest route from start to finish, its not luck that wins races, but you can be unlucky throughout the race, but not to the point where your consistently losing, it can happen here and there but not on a consistent basis. I myself am a 4:00 runner on Venus and about a 4:20 on Mars, reason being is because ive practiced to the point where I know the tracks and the fastest routes. What I would have suggested Bungie do with this is make 2 sets of gates, side by side on different but same time routes, 6 players all going for one gate is incredibly narrow and difficult and often you get thrown out of the way and it is complelety out of your control. SRL is more skill based than luck based, the environment does interfere more than it should though.

5 RepliesFrom someone who wins races, it's not by bumping ppl off that you win/lose. You get better the more you do it. You get to know which gates are worth hitting and which not to. Notice how the winner rarely seems to have most gates passed and quite often has the least?
-
The "bump" as you call it is part of the fun. Ever racing game I've played have some sort of "bump".
-
Quit whining.
-
If they are catching up to you enough to bump you, then you aren't more skilled than they are.

It's ridiculous how many races I lost to luck and not skill.
Yep, me too, I rarely actually get beaten fairly.
-
Um anyone who plays is rewarded.... what u complaining about?
-
luck is something you cannot control. you can control where your sparrow is (mostly lol). its part of the challenge. day 2 i continuously got rekt 'cuz of collision. now im used to it and can sometimes even use it to my advantage. in other words, I am deliberately using enemy bumps and collision to plot my course. skill, not luck.

Edited by loonigus: 12/17/2015 8:17:36 AMCollision are part of the SRL, but they need abit tweaking...

1 ReplyEdited by Erijian: 12/17/2015 8:05:29 AMLearning how player collision works and how to take advantage, or not get screwed by it, is just one of the many skill aspects of racing games. You need to just deal with it.

5 RepliesAre there racing games that don't have collision? Seriously? I admit I'm not a racing enthusiast, but I've played my share and I can't think of any. Kind of seems like it would defeat the purpose of racing against other people.
-
I think you're a salty little bitch that you can't win. That's what I think. Now run along junior don't want mommy to catch you on the internet past your bedtime.
-
Yea, I'd win all my races if everyone else would just stay at the starting line...better yet, they should just leave so I can enjoy a leisurely ride down the scenic roads. Get rid of all that pesky stress of competitiveness.
-
Hahahaha its part of the enjoyment battling to get through the gates. It is a crucible mode ya know.
-
5 RepliesDo you have the fastest times on all the maps? Or close to top? No? Well then it's not all luck.
-
Yeah Your right. Remove collision (and all other players) and I'd win every match

Hell no. HAVE YOU NEVER PLAYED ANY OTHER COMPETITIVE ONLJNE RACING GAMES EVER???? No Mario Kart? No Forza Horizon 2? F-Zero racing with friends? Are they all luck since you can bump people? No. Good lord. This is racing. This is how any serious racing game is and more so for the arcade racing games like Mario Kart or SRL. You never hear any of these fans of these games Ever complain cuz they know what to expect. It's part of racing. Don't blame your lack of good racing skills in something as simple as getting bumped into. People who play a lot of games like this are probably going on this board laughing their ass off at topics like this. I seriously thought it was satire until I realized people were being serious. Maybe I played too much Mario Kart, Sonic Racing, Forza Horizon games or something, cuz topics like this are laughable. If it was all luck I wouldn't be getting in the top 2 or top 3 practically almost every single time. If you're not very good at these competitive arcade racing games then get better and stop blaming it on absolutely ridiculous simple things that happen in majority of competitive arcade racers like bumping.

6 RepliesWhat pissed me off the most, is that you have to shove to win. If you can't over take me around a corner, you suck. Also. If all sparrows in a race are the same speed and boost, then how the flying fuuck do you come up behind some one so quickly. I didn't miss that gate, I'm at top speed, but they're pulling up behind me quickly. How?
-
I don't think it should be turned off but it deffo needs turning down a lot. Getting bumped at the moment makes me feel like I'm racing on a paper plane rather then a heavy piece of machinery. It should also do a lot more damage to the bumper.
