When are Sniper Rifles getting nerfed?

DUE TO THE HIGH VOLUME OF CHILD-LIKE HIT AND RUN INSULTERS, I HAVE ADDED THIS SECTION. BEFORE YOU COME ON HERE AND HURL BASELESS ACCUSATIONS ABOUT ME, KNOW THAT I AM "THAT GUY" FROM CALL OF DUTY WHO USED NOTHING BUT SCOPED KAR 98K, M40A3, BARRET .50 CAL. I'M "THAT GUY" IN HALO WHO CAMPS UPON THE SNIPER RIFLE SPAWN AND PLAYS NOTHING BUT THE SNIPER/SHOTTY GAME PLAYLIST. SO IF ALL YOU WANT TO DO IS TALK SMACK ABOUT THINGS YOU HAVEN'T GOTTEN THE FAINTEST CLUE ABOUT, SHUT YOUR PIE HOLE. I HAVE DECADES OF SNIPING EXPERIENCE AND WISDOM. IF ANYONE IS QUALIFIED TO OFFER A CRITIQUE OF SNIPER RIFLES, IN ANY GAME, IT IS ME. Every game I see bad players getting easy kills with headshots. Especially in Trials. I thought Bungie was trying to balance the weapons with this December weapons balance patch for PvP? We're going to make drastic changes to a whole lot of weapon classes and ignore Sniper Rifles. This will give even more power to Sniper Rifles. I see people sniping on tiny maps when Scouts are pure TRASH. And Pulse Rifles are getting nerfed also, so what else can stop Sniper Rifles? Its immensely easy to get head shots with Sniper Rifles. And then the Orb Camping with Snipers! That's the stupidest shit! Its still easy to revive-snipe, even at close range. Sniper Rifles are supposed to be LONG RANGE weapons, not the damned go-to Special Weapon. Lets make it that way. EDIT: Added a comment I wrote in reply to someone on this thread. Felt it was a valid extension of this OP. One of the key differences between Destiny PvP and say, CoD, or other twitch shooters is the time to kill. In Destiny and Halo for example, it generally takes more than a few bullets to kill someone. That is, in my opinion the single greatest defining characteristic that makes Destiny stand out among shooters. In CoD, if someone so much as looks at you, you're dead. With Destiny, it takes time, and skill, to maintain an accurate stream of bullets. It requires consistency that games like CoD do not require. You must track your opponent for longer than a second or two in order to get a kill. Sniper Rifles are the antithesis to the style of Destiny PvP. Snipers kill so easily in a headshot, and its easy to get head shots. Simply stand in one place and fire a single bullet while you possess a ton of health, health that games like CoD do not afford to player's characters. Snipers are pretty much a gun from CoD mixed in with guns from Destiny or Halo, with the character health level of Destiny and Halo. In CoD, you die instantly to ANY gun in the game, which balances out the power of Sniper Rifles in CoD. Whereas, in Destiny, a Sniper has health that a CoD Sniper does not, affording the Destiny Sniper user much more survivability, and CoD Snipers will die instantly, thus CoD Sniper Rifles are not OP, and Destiny Snipers are OP. Sniper Rifles in Destiny need to be brought in line with the assumed style of Destiny: High health players with high time to kill weapons (compared to CoD). Snipers should at least be made more difficult to attain head shots with, but not so difficult as to be extremely difficult even for the best of the best. Body shots are irrelevant here. One of the goals 'ought to be the removal of the Destiny Sniper Rifle from the category of run and gun style weapons, such as Fusion Rifles, Shotguns, or Auto Rifles. For the same reasons Bungie removed Final Round from Snipers, and are effectively removing Luck in the Chamber from Snipers, Bungie should nerf Snipers and make it more difficult to headshot, because a 1 bullet kill SHOULD be difficult, and Bungie recognizes that. Bungie doesn't like those perks because they are cheap, and go against the style of Destiny, which is high time to kill and more skill required to get kills. Snipers are the opposite of that. EDIT: Added 5 possible solutions to the issues raised in this post. I've thought long and hard about an appropriate way to implement a compromising Nerf to Sniper Rifles. 1. Increase the time it takes for Sniper Rifles to Aim Down Sight. This will remove Sniper Rifles from being competitive at close range as they are now, and give more room (appropriately) to underused Weapon Classes whose specialty is close or medium range, such as Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, Fusion Rifles, etc. Will also cause Snipers to become more meaningful in their player's placement and location on the map, and decrease the amount of "run and gun" Snipers, which detracts from other Weapon Classes due to it's effectiveness. 2. Increase minimum zoom range across the board for all Sniper Rifle Scopes. There should be no Scopes at 4x, 4.5x, 5x, 5.5x, or 6x. Min zoom range is highly debatable. 3. Increase scarcity of ammo for Sniper Rifles. Either decrease clip size, decrease ammo picked up from ammo crates, and/or remove starting reserve Sniper ammo. This will make Sniper Rifle users use their Snipers in a more deliberate and meaningful fashion. 4. Smaller hitboxes of character heads while scoped in with Sniper Rifles. Remove Hidden Hand from Snipers completely. 5. Decrease Aim Assist for all Sniper Rifles by a significant amount. This will help to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. The good Snipers from the bad. We'll see less bad players getting easy sniper head shots, and more appreciation for Snipers who are actually good. There isn't much risk for Snipers either. Lots of reward, not much risk. I'm sure there are other ideas. These are some of mine. TLDR: Because of the high health of players in Destiny's Crucible, and the general difficulty most weapon classes have with taking down players in the Crucible, Sniper Rifles should be made more difficult to acquire head shots with. Most weapons take 10-20 bullets to kill, and Sniper Rifles take exactly one as a headshot. Its too easy to headshot with Sniper Rifles. This unbalances the power distribution across the Weapon Classes, and we are seeing a sizable increase in Sniping since 2.0 with the infamous nerfs to the Sniper Rifle's main threat to the throne: Thorn, The Last Word, and Shotguns. All that was left to oppose Sniper Rifles in the Crucible was Pulse Rifles, and now they too, have been tossed aside with the rest, in favor of Sniper Rifles. If you think Fusion Rifles can replace Shotguns, you are wrong. If you think Scouts can replace Pulse Rifles, you are wrong. Not without buffs. Auto Rifles may have a chance at keeping Sniper Rifles out of close and medium range with the December 8, 2015 weapon balancing patch, but that remains to be seen.

  • For number three that doesn't really work as effective as you think. Sure you spawn with less ammo. But in trials you just go on an ammo run and have max ammo after 2 rounds at most

      • And last of all you don't need to complain about snipers so much when you use a shotgun. That might be a reason you want them nerfed so bad. But just know that shotguns are getting nerfed again and after the nerfs if you see someone with a sniper equipped what I'm understanding is that you think they are good because they are going to be using it after its nerfed

            • I agree to a point but don't see a nerf helping anything (when have they ever) they just need to reduce the amount of speacial ammo that it. Oh and undo all nerfs they ever have done except for first Mytho nerf. Imagine getting killed or battling against different weapon types, those were the days. AR ' S should be the most versatile gun in the game at any range realistically. Pvp in destiny seems to be based off a 7 year Olds dream that snipers should be the only powerful weapon. They should be strong yes but they shouldn't beat out any other gun close to mid range and should be iffy at long range against ar since when you get hit, you should flinch. If it's not a head shot it should be a battle

              • Coming from someone who ONLY snipes I say the AA of all snipers or at least some certain snipers need to be greatly reduced. The glass promontory which has about 70 base AA and with shortgaze and hidden hand it probably gets past 90 AA which is a stupidly high number. Same with the hereafter which also has about 90 AA. I've used both and it is way too easy to snipe with those. Another good thing would be to remove the hidden hand perk from all snipers. Other than ridiculous AA snipers are fine right now

                Good feedback and everyone, no matter what they say, knows this to be true. Why the sudden rise in sniping since 2.0? It's easy to explain, the increased time to kill on every other cheap ass weapon has people seeking the easiest way to get a kill. Those numbers will be the weapon's downfall. Patience, snipers will be next on the list, especially after the shotguns will no longer be a adequate counter for them. Mark my words, a major aim assist nerf is on the way. Here's my personal Refute to all the stupid ass attempts at arguing that snipers are not op. 1. I'm tired of all the whining and PVP nerfs Messing with PVE. Look, I get you and its kind of tragic that the PVE and PVE have not been separated completely as far as balance, but this doesn't address in anyway shape or form whether or not snipers are balanced with other weapons. 2. Aim assist doesn't lock in the headshot, it artificially slows down your aim: no shit genius, this is the primary thing that allows dragging. 3. All weapons have aim assist: Jesus Christ, I can't believe I'm even dignifying this... Not all weapons are a one hit kill from long-range, or hell even close range with the ease of quick scoping. 4. If it's so easy why don't you do it. This is such a stupid, predictable argument... Not everyone wants to be forced into using the same weapon that everybody else is using, not every player seeks out the cheapest meta. Which leads me to... 5. It takes skill to snipe and or a better player will just find another weapon to beat you with. Egg-BLAMING-xactly. I'm gonna break this down with sub bullet points: - based on your own point, and a point that happens to be true, all weapons take skill to use, and a better player will win in just about any scenario, this is an arbitrary point and has absolutely nothing to do with balance. - If all a player cares about is using a dominant weapon, completely disregarding style of play, then why the hell would he/she care about anything that is nerfed or buffed? Wouldn't one just find the next op weapon? - whether or not a weapon is balanced has nothing to do with "skill", as everyone possesses a varying degree of skill. A gun that gives a bad player an edge will logically scale in the hands of a pro... When two pros go at it, and weapon imbalances exist, it can easily boil down to their load out. Why do you think that Trials Y1 was saturated with Thorn and Y2 is saturated with sniping. Let me get this STRAIGHT I DONT CARE IF SNIPERS GET NERFED I'm not asking for a Nerf, but when someone posts a thought out post about weapon balance, you need to check your dumbassed, baseless arguments at the door and try having a reasonable discussion. Why not, "snipers don't need a nerf because of the map size". #bumpforlogic #braincells

                      • Agreed 100% and here is my opinion. Snipers the way they are now is fine BUT there would need to be a limiting factor. Like the reason the sniper works in Halo is because it's a weapon pick up. In destiny a sniper is better than every option overall and EVERYONE can spawn with it. Also there is no shortage of ammo. There are no limiting factors which means they need to either be brought down in strength, or make it so ammo is extremely scarce or something along those lines.

                                  Your an absolute idiot what the hell there is no aim bot that snaps to your head. A sniper should always be a ohk to the head. The fact is that trials is much easier to snipe in because of all the time you have and player communication they won't nerf snipers because snipers don't need a nerf suck it. Don't be mad because you cant snipe.

                                  • No matter what you say, snipers will remain how they are. It's how they're intended to be. However, I do agree they are a bit problematic, but only because of the amount of special ammo available in each game.

                                    • Said this multiple time but a clear solution would be to make an optional alternative game type specific to trials that only slows the use of the primary weapon. Optional because those who like running snipers and shotguns can stay in the normal playlist those who aren't as gun hoe with the secondary for whatever reason can simply run the trials in the optional game mode it's not like there is a disadvantage to doing this as most rewards in trials now come from bounties that are in no way weapon use specific it's all about just playing games and getting kills in no specific way

                                      The real problem is that bungie gave everyone a 1000-yard stare for completing a simple quest. One of the higher aim assist snipers that can also be used in trials to rez snipe? Obvious answer for many players. Imo the trials sniper should basically be 1000-yard stare and all 1000-yard stares should be replaced with trials snipers.
