When are Sniper Rifles getting nerfed?

I thought Bungie was trying to balance the weapons with this December weapons balance patch for PvP? We're going to make drastic changes to a whole lot of weapon classes and ignore Sniper Rifles. This will give even more power to Sniper Rifles. I see people sniping on tiny maps when Scouts are pure TRASH. And Pulse Rifles are getting nerfed also, so what else can stop Sniper Rifles? Its immensely easy to get head shots with Sniper Rifles. And then the Orb Camping with Snipers! That's the stupidest shit! Its still easy to revive-snipe, even at close range. Sniper Rifles are supposed to be LONG RANGE weapons, not the damned go-to Special Weapon. Lets make it that way. EDIT: Added a comment I wrote in reply to someone on this thread. Felt it was a valid extension of this OP. One of the key differences between Destiny PvP and say, CoD, or other twitch shooters is the time to kill. In Destiny and Halo for example, it generally takes more than a few bullets to kill someone. That is, in my opinion the single greatest defining characteristic that makes Destiny stand out among shooters. In CoD, if someone so much as looks at you, you're dead. With Destiny, it takes time, and skill, to maintain an accurate stream of bullets. It requires consistency that games like CoD do not require. You must track your opponent for longer than a second or two in order to get a kill. Sniper Rifles are the antithesis to the style of Destiny PvP. Snipers kill so easily in a headshot, and its easy to get head shots. Simply stand in one place and fire a single bullet while you possess a ton of health, health that games like CoD do not afford to player's characters. Snipers are pretty much a gun from CoD mixed in with guns from Destiny or Halo, with the character health level of Destiny and Halo. In CoD, you die instantly to ANY gun in the game, which balances out the power of Sniper Rifles in CoD. Whereas, in Destiny, a Sniper has health that a CoD Sniper does not, affording the Destiny Sniper user much more survivability, and CoD Snipers will die instantly, thus CoD Sniper Rifles are not OP, and Destiny Snipers are OP. Sniper Rifles in Destiny need to be brought in line with the assumed style of Destiny: High health players with high time to kill weapons (compared to CoD). Snipers should at least be made more difficult to attain head shots with, but not so difficult as to be extremely difficult even for the best of the best. Body shots are irrelevant here. One of the goals 'ought to be the removal of the Destiny Sniper Rifle from the category of run and gun style weapons, such as Fusion Rifles, Shotguns, or Auto Rifles. For the same reasons Bungie removed Final Round from Snipers, and are effectively removing Luck in the Chamber from Snipers, Bungie should nerf Snipers and make it more difficult to headshot, because a 1 bullet kill SHOULD be difficult, and Bungie recognizes that. Bungie doesn't like those perks because they are cheap, and go against the style of Destiny, which is high time to kill and more skill required to get kills. Snipers are the opposite of that. EDIT: Added 5 possible solutions to the issues raised in this post. I've thought long and hard about an appropriate way to implement a compromising Nerf to Sniper Rifles. 1. Increase the time it takes for Sniper Rifles to Aim Down Sight. This will remove Sniper Rifles from being competitive at close range as they are now, and give more room (appropriately) to underused Weapon Classes whose specialty is close or medium range, such as Auto Rifles, Hand Cannons, Fusion Rifles, etc. Will also cause Snipers to become more meaningful in their player's placement and location on the map, and decrease the amount of "run and gun" Snipers, which detracts from other Weapon Classes due to it's effectiveness. 2. Increase minimum zoom range across the board for all Sniper Rifle Scopes. There should be no Scopes at 4x, 4.5x, 5x, 5.5x, or 6x. Min zoom range is highly debatable. 3. Increase scarcity of ammo for Sniper Rifles. Either decrease clip size, decrease ammo picked up from ammo crates, and/or remove starting reserve Sniper ammo. This will make Sniper Rifle users use their Snipers in a more deliberate and meaningful fashion. 4. Smaller hitboxes of character heads while scoped in with Sniper Rifles. Remove Hidden Hand from Snipers completely. 5. Decrease Aim Assist for all Sniper Rifles by a significant amount. This will help to separate the wheat from the chaff, so to speak. The good Snipers from the bad. We'll see less bad players getting easy sniper head shots, and more appreciation for Snipers who are actually good. There isn't much risk for Snipers either. Lots of reward, not much risk. I'm sure there are other ideas. These are some of mine. TLDR: Because of the high health of players in Destiny's Crucible, and the general difficulty most weapon classes have with taking down players in the Crucible, Sniper Rifles should be made more difficult to acquire head shots with. Most weapons take 10-20 bullets to kill, and Sniper Rifles take exactly one as a headshot. Its too easy to headshot with Sniper Rifles. This unbalances the power distribution across the Weapon Classes, and we are seeing a sizable increase in Sniping since 2.0 with the infamous nerfs to the Sniper Rifle's main threat to the throne: Thorn, The Last Word, and Shotguns. All that was left to oppose Sniper Rifles in the Crucible was Pulse Rifles, and now they too, have been tossed aside with the rest, in favor of Sniper Rifles. If you think Fusion Rifles can replace Shotguns, you are wrong. If you think Scouts can replace Pulse Rifles, you are wrong. Not without buffs. Auto Rifles may have a chance at keeping Sniper Rifles out of close and medium range with the December 8, 2015 weapon balancing patch, but that remains to be seen.

    • Well yesterday I was doing salvage for the crucible quest, using my good ol' Longbow that, if I recall correctly, might have one of the higher aim assists, plus good range and stability. I missed four shots on a guy standing still because I was also trying to dodge his shots, missed plenty of what seemed simple shots. I may not be an mlg but I consider myself fair at sniping. If you want easy sniping play halo 5, because sniping on here is fine

    • I saw the caps lock and just assumed you were childlike. Stop complaining about stuff. You are affecting pve players. If it's too powerful just use it yourself. If that doesn't work I suggest you reevaluate. Most likely you just suck.

      Bro great post I share your same thoughts on it all about snipers u were just much better at putting it into words and giving great solutions that won't ruin the gun but just make people with no skill with snipers worse at using them

      • 10-20 shots to kill on average for a weapon? That is absurd. unless you have awful aim and are using a gun like nechrochasm you will never need 10-20 shots to kill.

        Um no. Seriously you need to understand how difficult it is to be successful as a quick scoping sniper before you hate on it. We make it look easy because it's literally all some of us used... Even during the felwinters dark times.           • Aim Assist on snipers is a huge problem. Aiming under fire with there god given aim assist can make them demigods of death. They take skill and have to be used in the right spots but when every entry to other side of the map has a pack of roaming snipers patrolling it. 1 sniper=almost balanced. 6 snipers=broken game.

          • Snipers are too easy to use... Either I'm really good at using them or its so easy a cavemen can do it lol... I never liked shotguns but its true that you can always see them coming at you.. I never had a problem against people who use shotguns... It was fun killing them with a primary or just keeping distance.. Now everyone is using a sniper.. Primaries cant kill for shit... I honestly find it annoying.. I don't want people playing like me... I liked people who could use fusion rifles.. When autos were actually good.. When pulse rifles could kill in 2 burst... All they needed was a range nerf but bungie is stupid as -blam!-... The only thing worth using is a sniper now... Scout or if you have skill a hand cannon which I hate using... Damn what ever happened when this game was actually good?

            • Never in an fps have I seen the fan base bitch about literally every gun in the game. Why snipers? I mean first thorn/last word. Then shotties then pulse then taloloc. Now snipers? The fan base is why there are constant dumbass adjustments. Because there is no pleasing this community. Worst community out of any fps.

                • Wow. I almost wasn't going to read this because of the all caps thing you added. Then I realized it was not directed at me and skipped that whole part :-) This is a very well though out post and my opinion is in line with your suggestions. I've given my opinion many times on sniping in Destiny. The game mechanics and design around the rifles themselves has led to the "misuse" of sniping in general. Keep in mind that I've been practicing and watching vids from skilled snipers to get better at "Destiny Sniping" since it differs so much from other games. I'm getting better but at the same time it feels cheap by design. Sniping is a carefully crafted skill that requires Patience and Timing (no pun) but in Destiny it's turned into a twitch sport that barely resembles what sniping should be about. Long range suppression and take down. Don't get me wrong, that is still the focus in this game but there are a few things that allow snipers to be able to do more than they should be able to. Quickscoping should not be a thing. Period. You're number 1 section is on track for that but I think to add would be when going ADS a minuscule delay before you have fill accuracy (maybe similar to what they did for run shotgunning). Also increase the accuracy penalty while moving. Snipers are not and cannot be accurate while their moving. Even a little. Your other ideas make sense as well and I have nothing to elaborate on there. Bungie has been adamant about keeping their weapons with their vision of preferred use zones/distances. It's time to do the same for snipers. I don't think any of these idea will kill sniping, they'll just make it more like actual sniping.

                  • Now I don't want to see any nerfs at all , I think it's stupid how some players think its okay to get a headshot at close range but by God if you kill someone with a shotgun more than 2 feet its broken. Shotguns have been nerf and nerfed again because of people complaing. I like shotguns because of the rush you get at close range but now the only shotgun I can use is.........suprise! conspiracy theory d. Like I said I DON'T WANT TO SEE ANY NERFS. Shotgunners get shafted and I don't want to see the same thing to happen to snipers.

                  • You said exactly what I've been saying to the T. Reducing sniper aim speed, handling, movement speed, aim assist. The complete removal of hidden hand. The overall aim assist in this game on any weapon shouldn't be higher than 30 on average and thats being nice. The nerf to special ammo in crucible. For example, not spawning in with special ammo, reducing max reserve ammo for special and heavy weapons in crucible to 0 or 1 magazine. These are the first steps to balancing

                  • It's a balancing problem. Same with thorn. It's not that I couldn't outgun the thorn guy, it's just that I got tired of seeing them. Yeah, I'll make a bad decision and get domed by a hardscoper, that's on me. But I just get a bit tired of seeing nothing but snipers. Makes crucible boring as hėll. It's like they don't think about the gun that they DIDNT nerf while they were nerfing away on the others. Of course there's more snipes, nothing can reach them, well almost nothing. And it's not to say that constant, successful, non-camping sniping doesn't take a skilled hand. We used to have more tools at our disposal to damage the sniper enough to make him duck for cover while we closed the distance enough to engage with a primary or secondary. Now we have less guns in that list and it gives the appearance that sniper rifles are OP. I really enjoy the crucible, though. And will keep playing. I'm somewhere between a sweaty tryhard, and a filthy casual, so I care enough to not want my crucible fun-times get stale with single weapon metas, but not enough to cry for nerfs on snipes. I want balance and reasonable options. I'll still get domed, regardless what happens (and something WILL happen). Bungie can't nerf my bad crucible decisions, but I would certainly appreciate if they think about consequences of nerfs. Also RIP fusion rifles. Those get a nerf regardless what happens. I'll be fûcked if I know why. Knibb High football rules!!!

                  • You know, I'm a sniper and have been hating the nerf sniper posts but the ideas you proposed to make it harder for us make sense. By no means am I a fantastic sniper but I would consider myself decent... I shouldn't be able to wait for someone to walk around a corner at midrange then dome them with ease. I hate doing it but it works so I do it. Also, quick scoping is the dumbest thing that has come into a video game. I don't care if it's a video game not real life but quick scoping is so lame and retarded. A sniper isn't supposed to be a run and gun type of weapon, it's supposed to be a kind of campy weapon that requires precision and patience to be good with. Not the "run around the corner and PRESS the aim trigger and get a head shot and keep going like nothing happened." Anyway, kudos to you for making me rethink snipers a bit.

                    • sniper rifles are big bulky weapons, they should be harder to manouver, have some wobble and zero aim asist.

                      • A majority of people aren't good with snipers and I understand your point on revive-sniping, but that problem has a solution already
