I wouldn't discuss things like this until you read the entirety. Context is everything.

Read all of what?
-
Read the entire Bible. You need to assess everything. To quote Hannibal Lecter "Read Marcus Aurelius of each thing". If I may offer an example? Have you read Plato's Republic?

Ah, maybe the example will still work. The first line in the Republic is "I went down to the Piraeus yesterday with Glaucon" at first it doesn't mean much. The Piraeus was a port section of Athens where foreigners and traders lived. Generally considered a lower class citizen. It's not until book 7 (chapter 7) where the allegory of the cave is laid out, where the educated venture down to ignorance to help those in it up. Now the usage of down to the Piraeus is meaningful. That one word doesn't have any meaning until this point. The entire book takes place in the Piraeus where Socrates is educating 3 men at a dinner table for 8 or so books.

What is your point

I can't spell everything out for you. Take this example and apply it to a whole passage. Ask why, what is the point, what does it teach?
