Ok, how about this. Add a new event, The Reclamation of the Earth.
Every week, Bungie releases a Community Bounty that involves you taking the fight to the city below. These bounties would consist of challenges like:
"Kill 10 million Fallen and drive them out Guardian!"
"We need to recover our data, collect 1000 dead Ghost memory fragments so we can see what actually happened down here"
"The Cabal have set up bases throughout our city, find them, bury them."
The enemies would be slightly above raid level. Not only would this add challenge, it would give you PERMANENT end game content, and give you a REASON to want to be 320. A reason to keep pushing yourself to get better gear. With 18 people on the map, you could expect to see everything from 5-6 Devil Walkers on the ground at the same time, to armies of Arcon Priests roaming the streets. Imagine seeing about 30 dropships landing down all at once.
It would allow 18 people in a lobby and have matchmaking. 6 man Fireteams would be supported as well. The community would have that entire week to come together and conquer the bounty.
Doing so would unlock a section of the city, that would host new vendors, and an open area you could explore freely. As the weeks went on, you would continue to expand and gain content via The City.
Eventually you would unlock areas such as Hangers or Garages where you could customize your vehicles with parts salvaged from the open world. You could even visit clothes shops or hair salons to remake your character, for a fee of course.
With 52 weeks a year, a 10 year plan, and a massive, almost endless City below the tower, they could even incorporate this as a lasting event mode. At the end if 10 years we could have reclaimed our planet.
All of this would finally give the players a sense of progression. A sense of moving on, that you're winning the fight against the Darkness, and it would pull the community together to challenge Bungie and their Bounties.
I pray to God Bungie reads this, so if you support this idea, bump the holy hell out of this!

3 Replies1000 is too much and 10 million fallen people dont even have that many kills.
-
Give this person a job this is awesome :-)
-
Or...you know....

1 ReplyI dont like this idea sounds dumb. no offense

20 RepliesEdited by Spaceman: 11/4/2015 12:31:05 PMWe should also try and make new patrol areas in Chicago, New york, Moscow, and LA that would be awesome. Edit: also to everyone saying "it cant happen on last gen" think about gta5 online.

Oh my god yes!

Really cool idea. A the very least, I would like to see a challenging game mode with many players like this. Just waves of enemies, aways progressing in difficulty and numbers.
-
Way too cool of an idea...it would get in the way of cod sales. The suits won't like that.... But bump and signed....crossing fingers

Bumparoonie

YES. War is something I want to see in Destiny. If it isn't coming now, Bungie's needs to get dedicated servers and use this. -The guy with no house.
-
everyone would be red bared...bungies server would catch fire.....R.I.P Destiny. But good idea.
-
Hard raid need four people warpriest checkpoint light level 309 or higher join xVLDxUknown

-
Won't be playing Destiny for that long.
-
5 RepliesYou do know that the City is 100% safe from enemies unless it not being safe becomes a thing bungie does with a dlc/expansion?
-
Won't happen but it sounds cool

1 ReplyEdited by SpacialSnowflake: 11/4/2015 3:34:04 PMMaybe on PC. But I think consoles can't handle this.
-
3 RepliesThat would be fun if the game could handle said enemies with its low frame rate. Some will not understand until they kill an enemy at close range with firefly and have to restart their frozen game.
-
Its awesome. But a weekly update that massive every week would be insane. Maybe once every couple months I could see.
-
5 RepliesThat would require you to have a couple terabytes of external hard drive space dedicated to destiny lol.
-
Yeah... That's several tons data not to mention it needs constant attention. Great idea but that would be very difficult to achieve.
-
Ambitious. It would be great tho.

Edited by Mister Metokur: 11/4/2015 2:59:14 PMThis is technically impossible because the light is too strong in the city. Good read though
