Shotgun nerf is starting to get out of hand

Nerfing shotguns because of crucible is starting to become really disgusting. Just because they are powerful in crucible, doesn't mean they are overpowered on PvE. Actually, they are pretty weak, useless in crota, useless in vog, and useless in oryx (especially oryx) and I don't think bungie realizes this. They are so caught up in the crucible kids complaining, they don't realize that's only helping them, and severely impacting PvE. They are becoming weaker and weaker every day now. Some of them require the best perks to even be considered decent. Bungie, all I ask is you take a step back and focus on the game as a whole, not just PVP. Also wanted to point out there's a chance you might get knee pads in the new update. That's just stupid. Also bungie heads up The Chaperone still sucks. But hey, I understand, giving players knee pads is more important. [b][i]EDIT:[/i][/b] so for all the crucible kids who don't know how shot package will effect PvE, that's not the main point. The main point is that shotguns are getting hammered over and over again, and it's starting to affect PvE. Shot package can be very useful. It can make it so crits are easier to hit. My conspiracy theory can't 1 shot a level 8 captain when I have 301 light and it has 300 damage, even if it's mostly head shots. That's ridiculous.shot package helps all bullets hit crits, thus successfully obtaining a kill [b][i]EDIT:[/i][/b] so we're trending now, and but hurt has been summoned. Glad to see everyone's opinions overall though :)

  • Take this from a PvE player: Shotguns needed that nerf and they will still be fine after Shot Package is removed. Simply because Rangefinder gives you a more reliable damage boost.

  • Honestly at this point bungie is just making me get more excited for the drop of halo 5. Stop catering to trash pvp players. I'm not the greatest pvp player but above 1.5 kd and shotguns are not an issue. Neither was thorn though for that matter and they nerfed that. Sunbreaker isn't an issue either but that will soon be nerfed for some reason I can't understand.

    • The problem with shotguns is the range variances. In halo all shotguns had the same range. If you had a shotgun you KNEW where the sweet spot for the one hit kill was and everyone had the same distance. Just turn off the ranges to give shotguns the same range. Then you will start to see people using different perk choices. Problem solved and you will never need to adjust this weapon any more.

    • Rangefinder tends to be better in pve. But shot package was a poorly designed perk from the beginning in terms of balance. If they wanted to fix it they'd need to just change it to slugs like the chaperone. Can't one shot body but has extended range for headshot kills. Basically it'd be a CQC sniper. If tuned right, you wouldn't see them used as much or as effectively on high impact shotguns which would make low impact high RoF variants more effective. And depending on the headshot multiplier, could be very good for pve. But yeah pvp has messed up the shotgun pretty bad for pve. Personally I think they should rebuff the pve damage. But shotguns were really more of an add control weapon than meant for bosses. You could still use them for oryx. Primary touch of malice, special shotgun, heavy whatever. Use the shotgun to kill ogres as they're spawning. Shotguns have a lot against them in pve. Fast firing enemy snipers, long enemy melee ranges, exploding enemies, high damage long range attacks that force cover. The real reason that shotguns' performance varies so much is the size of maps. Pvp maps are significantly smaller and more CQC focused.

      • Am I the only one that never cared that shotguns had so much range. All these dam little kids complained and complained just cause they were not good. I am not the best player in all means I still had a beast shottie, but I preferred to snipe. If you look at my stats I pretty have the same number of kills with a shotgun and sniper. I just hate that all they do now is nerf this and that and it's just stupid to please the same ignorant people just cause they have no dam skill. Which is why I went back to battlefield.

      • Pve gets the short end of the stick cuz of babies in pvp and all viable weapons in pve that are not op in the specific game mode get nerfed to shit.

      • I think they should add a stat to certain weapons that make them effective in PVE and less effective in PVP. That way shotguns could get there PVE love but still be mitigated in crucible. Same with auto rifles, pulse rifles - hell any weapons that becomes way too overpowered for whatever reason. It allows them to dial it back into the scope of fair gunplay while still making them strong in PVE in boss fights and against majors/ultras. They could even go so far as to have the crucible gear have more effectiveness in PVP and vanguard more in PVE. Factions could have a mix or just offer both varieties. It wouldn't be that hard to do and other games already have this - world of warcraft and sw: the old republic spring to mind off the top of my head.

      • Maybe, just maybe, every weapon isny the best choice for every situation. Maybe there are time you shouldnt rush in with a shotgun in hand and expect to come out unscaved. Maybe shotpackage does practically nothing in PvE, but is one of the many problems with shotguns in PvP. Maybe people will stop defending shotguns, because they dont want to pickup a sniper, and get some not so point blank around the corner kills. Maybe.

      • What I find comical is the typical response to people requesting nerfs is get Gud or learn to counter it or don't play pvp. Yet everyone is fine with shotguns being nerfed again. Why can we not apply the same logic that those crying about them need to get Gud or learn to counter?

      • This could all be avoided if Bungie would just take away everyone's weapons in PvP and replace them with a full set of specially designed weapons. You go into PvP, you use these special Crucible weapons designed and balanced by Bungie specifically for Crucible play, then when you leave you get your normal weapons handed back to you. So -blam!-ing easy.

          • Nerfing Shotguns AGAIN!!!!!! for the 4th time because of PVP cry babies....!!!!!! For Fück Sake!!!!! A shotgun is meant to be a SHOTGUN!!! It should kill anyone stone dead with in a 10 metre radius!!! It's a fücking shotgun!!!! The Way not to get killed by a shotgun, keep your distance!!!! If you're running aimlessly through a corridor with an Auto Rifle/Pulse Rifle/Scout Rifle and you bump into a guy with a Shotgun, 10 times out of 10, you're gonna lose!           • Hey Bungie? How bout instead of nerfing shotguns, you build larger maps and work on range and sightline balances for a change? I simply don't understand how you go from maps the size of bloodgulch and sidewinder (including the remakes) to shit that is smaller than Lockout. You wanna understand why shotguns are popular, despite nerfing their damage by 9000%? Its because no one wants to bother landing a sniper shot on someone less than 10 feet away.             • I think it is just ridiculous how bungie so non-chalantly nerfs anything and everything the community complains about, shotguns, vex, autos, fusions, handcannons... I am not arguing whether or not those weapon changes were good or bad, but the constant changing of the game gets really frustrating to players. Players learn to play a certain way based on how they know the crucible works, then Bungie comes out and does some sweeping change, and players have to re-learn everything...it is really really frustrating... Mark my words, the next thing to be nerfed will be hammer of sol, then probably hawkmoon, then pulses...Fortunately or unfortunately, Bungie listens to complainers way too much...I am a run and gun shotgun player, but mostly just because I think thats a fun way to play. I will still be successful with my pulses and snipers, and do, indeed, look forward to using them. But, Bungie needs to start taking a different approach to "balance", rather than just nerfing weapons left and right.

                • Really I have no problem with getting rid of shot package cause really in PVE it's not that useful I would prefer crowd control or even knee pads cause knee pads do get you pretty far in and out of cover to dodge.

                • Shotguns need a PVP nerf their fine in PVE though. Not sure why they can't nerf it for just PVP and not the entire game.

                  the nerfs won't stop, that is a fact, they won't be satisfied until shotguns are useless in pvp. These continuous nerfs will ruin shotguns in pve.

                  • Oddly enough none of my raid teams have ever really used shotguns in PVE... I guess I could understand using one for goofing off, or random elites in patrol, but it shouldn't effect PVE too much anyway because in the majority of PVE situations a sniper rifle is your most effective weapon.
