I just picked up the taken king and have been playing the story mode (of regular destiny) alone, LOVE this game so far.
I want to join a clan and become a regular player but I have a few questions!
Everytime I try to do a "raid" I end up going into it and nobody else is around, nobody joins the game or is there something else I need to be doing?
-
What is "Nightfall"? I always see in these forums people looking for nightfall groups but I don't see it anywhere on the destiny game? Is that a raid or what?
-
What are your suggestions, should I keep playing the story and beating it before I start joining raid groups and stuff?
-
Thanks everyone!!!

If you're on PS4 I'd be more than happy to help you get a better understanding of Destiny.

The raids are not matchmade. You have to form your own team to do those. Either invite friends or use these tools for finding groups. https://www.bungie.net/en/Forum/Topics/0/1/0/Recruitment%20Raids http://www.destinylfg.net/ Nightfalls are weekly strikes that are much harder than normal. They usually reward high amounts of strange coins (used for Xur), Legendaries or Exotics. It's well worth your time to complete them once a week on reset day (Tuesday.) I recommend finishing the story and doing what quests you can along the way. As you continue through, keep an eye out on legendary armor and weapons that has good perk rolls and stat distributions that you like so you can infuse them and keep them with you throughout year 2. After finishing the story, do some strikes and heroic strikes. Better light level gear drops as you climb the levels. You should always be replacing your gear as you find better stuff (or infusing as mentioned before.) Keep an eye out for a decent sniper around the 290+ range and when you hit 290, you should be ready to tackle the newest raid. I recommend trying Vault of Glass and Crota's End before King's Fall so you get a feel for the teamwork and communication needed to do a raid. Video guides are also a suggestion. Planet Destiny is a good source of news, discussions, Exotic weapon reviews and guides. Here's a link to their Youtube. https://www.youtube.com/user/PlanetDestiny

4 RepliesTo address your actual questions.... 1. Raids need a pre-made fireteam of 6. It's possible to do it with fewer on Vault of Glass or Crota's End, but 6 is highly recommended. You will need to either manually invite friends or acquaintences from a Looking For Group (LFG) site or from your personal friends list. There is no match-making (the conversation about whether this is good or bad is for another day). 2. Nightfalls are strikes that rotate once a week. "Reset" day is every Tuesday, and every reset, you'll get a new Nightfall strike. There is no matchmaking for this unlike other strikes, so like Raids, you'll have to bring your own fireteam, or solo it if you dare. The difference is that these Nightfalls offer harder enemies, there are modifiers to make certain types of damage go higher (ex. Solar Burn), as well as other modifiers. When you bring up the Director (where all the planets are), you'll notice 4-5 modules on the lower left side of the screen. That includes all of the daily and weekly activities. You'll find the Nightfall strike as the right-most module. 3. Absolutely finish the story first. You'll get a better idea of how the mechanics of the game work this way, plus you'll get a ton of experience along the way to level up your subclass. Some end-game content, like raids and nightfalls, won't even unlock until you do this anyways. This is probably a rehash of what other guardians have said, but it bears repeating. I'd offer to play with you, but I'm rarely on my PS4 character. There's so much to do now that I can only really focus on one character, and that one is on the xbox. As far as general advice goes, I'd just keep playing and running around. -Play with friends if possible. -Grab bounties every time they're available and complete them. -Join a faction. I'm personally a Future War Cult guy, but it doesn't matter, really. You can pledge an allegiance to one faction at a time. -While on your way to lvl 40, only use the best equipment in your inventory, regardless of weapon type or perks. Once you hit 40, you can be a little more discerning. -I wouldn't worry about infusing weapons or armor if they're under 285. Don't worry! They'll drop for you, but only once you hit lvl 40, and even then, it's a bit of a trickle. Not sure how proven this is yet, but here's what I do when I turn in engrams. I decrypt them one at a time, and then I check it to see if it's higher than what I currently have equipped. If it is, I equip it and then decrypt the next item. You don't even have to leave the menu, really. The idea being that engrams decrypt (blues/purples) at close to your current level. Often they're below. -Xur shows up once a week on Friday morning and leaves on Saturday night. He sells exotic items at random. DO NOT BUY legacy engrams from him unless you want an exotic item at attack/defense values too low to use currently. The good news is that it will unlock a Year 2 blueprint if/when the Year 2 version is available. Your strange coins are used for this. Don't ever let anyone make you feel bad about buying something from him. -Go ghost hunting! Seriously, find dead ghosts. It's a fun way to pass the time if you haven't done it already, plus it'll unlock Grimoire cards. -Use shaders! They're available in the tower from Eva Levante, who is in a corner in the same area as the Speaker, or they can come from random drops. -If you like lore, read the grimoire. The full thing is available here, or if you want to only read the ones you've unlocked, you can enter your GT or PSN ID and it'll only show the ones you've unlocked. I'd personally recommend anything that says "Ghost Fragment." -Bungie releases a weekly update article every Thursday. Make sure you read it, because it's got a lot of good information in it. That's kinda the gist. Obviously, play the game how you want to and make sure you have fun!

You should follow through with all the story mode first. And raids are not matchmade with randoms same goes for nightfalls. You must have friends to join you. Or friends of thiers. You can recruit in the recruit section of the forums.
-
If you r on xbox one add me. My gt is Bora XIII im no expert but ive played long enough to know the ropes... First of, i reccomend pledging allegiance to one of the three favtions in the tower as they can occassionally give you good gear... (Personally i love FWC)

Some things you can do solo or bring 3 to 5 friends. If the game is going to match you up with strangers, it will say "matchmaking" in the description (when you hover your mouse over the icon on the planet. etc.) You have not unlocked night falls yet, you need to be 260 or 270 light, 280 or higher is strongly suggested.

If you need friends on ps4 you can add me nelz555

2 RepliesEdited by BoostedxFG2: 10/7/2015 5:32:23 PMWelcome to Destiny guardian! Raids are the highest level end game content. You can't do kings fall, until you finish the story all the way through, learn the mechanics of the game and how the community operates, and are at least 290 light. The year 1 raids are easier but will require you to be at least level 34 and 170 light or so. In order to do raids, you need to get your own fireteam together with your friends, or use LFG, which stands for "Looking For Group". That should be self explanatory. There is no matchmaking for the raid, or nightfall. The Nightfall is a weekly event. It is a randomly selected Strike mission, however it is the highest level of difficulty, and has a bunch of modifiers to it that make it even harder. It changes each week, and once you complete it the first time that week, you will no longer get good loot drops or leg marks. But the final boss can still drop loot. Unless you're light level 260 I believe, it won't allow you to do it, or something like that. Basically you need to get your character light level up to be able to complete it. Make sure you tranfuse gear and weapons and don't dismantle anything unless you're sure it's useless. Just to be safe. What system are you on? If Xb1, let me know as I'm always down to help people with stuff.

Finish the story first. Then you'll be strong enough to do the strike playlist, then you can move on to heroic strikes and then nightfall. Nightfall is very useful for getting exotic weapons and armour (random though) In the bottom left of the screen where you choose planets there will be icons for nightfall, heroic strikes, daily heroic story, daily crucible and weekly crucible. Nightfall is the toughest of those. Raids have no matchmaking. Only worry about raiding when you're higher leveled. Any other questions, ask away, I'll answer the best I can.

For raids u have to assemble your fireteam of 6 . No matchmaking for raids .
-
get yourself to level 40 and then grind out level 36 strikes to bring up your light. on fridays a vendor xur shows up with yellow gear in the tower or reef its always random and buy these things called three of coin for 7 strange coins use them in those strikes for a chance at an exotic drop from the last boss. once your light is up to around 290 then start trying for nightfalls and raid teams oh and nightfalls and raids need a team their is no matchmaking for those activities use the forums on the app recruitment section just post or reply its a bit rough sometimes trying to get into games but dont give up it will happen. goodluck guardian hope this helps.

Welcome guardian. Raids are 6-person team events, you have to assemble fireteam in orbit. There is no matchmaking. They are THE reason to play. Nightfalls are similar, they are 3-player events with some crazy difficulty modifiers on them. If you are x360 add me; I am happy to advise
-
You can join my clan at any time if you like. Our name is Broadswords and the picture is a ship schematic, we'd be happy to help out at pretty much any time.
-
Welcome to destiny add me as a friend and I'll explain in a party chat/ help you figure things out
-
Hahaha Its a Taken Tot XD Sorry. Anyways, just have fun when you are playing. Ignore people who claim to be elitists/ call others scrubs or those who want nerfs. They tend to be overzealous and annoying. Make sure you work on your skills by playing multiple gametypes.
-
Destiny tracker will be your new best friend. Read everything on the forums. Ignore the crybabies. Find what you like and stick to it. Just follow all the quests and you'll be a legend in your own right in no time. Good luck guardian!
-
Nightfall is basically a strike with certain modifiers on them to change encounters up some, like burns (void burn would increase all void damage done) and Chaff (no radar). but they used to have a modifier called Nightfall which would return you to orbit whenever you wipe and force you to start over. Raids require a premade group to run through, there isnt any match making that will place you with other people for any of them except for the lvl 28 version of Prison of Elders.

Never use a shotgun, they suck
don't tell him the truth
Never listen to LFG randoms. Oh and a LFG is something used to find randoms for high level activities. Many will try to mess with newer players. Also many people despise newer players just because the new player doesn't live and breath destiny, and/or doesn't know many of the well known things that more experienced players do. Ignore those people because there are a lot of people, such as myself, who would be willing to help you. (I'm on PS4 btw) Finally, if you do have time, and do really enjoy the game, you can find many websites, such as PlanetDestiny.com, and many YouTube channels that give info about the game in many aspects. YouTubers such as DattodoesDestiny, KackisHD, and MynameisByf are good choices for general knowledge of the game and other topics over the game. (DestinyFollower is also very good).

If you are looking to do the raids and need help, in addition to a clan where you can call home, you are welcome to come play with mine and see if we fit you.
-
Whats up man? I was in the same position back in January. There is a lot of story to get thru but that is one of the best ways to level up. Doing the crucible helps you gain xp to level up quickly as well. My clan regularly raids and we would definitely take you through some of the old content (old to us, new to you lol). Shoot me an add man and I'll get with you online and help you level up and pretty soon we can get you started on the Nightfalls and the Raids
-
assuming your serious - Get friends. they will join and help you. you cannot raid without 5 other team members and patrol is just more fun with a fire team of 3. - Nightfall is a high level activity you should bring a fire team with. often times you get high level rewards, though you can also receive crap for doing it - yes play the game until you unlock everything then raid and stuff
