2 RepliesJust tell your parents to take your consoles power cord and to hide it from you until the weekend until your grades improve.

Mate, if it is having this much of an impact, sell the game (or delete it) and delete all your toons. I am 100% serious... As someone who has had my own destructive and addictive habits in the past can tell you now that breaking the habit by going cold turkey is the best bet! You'll feel horrible at first but soon you'll forget why you even liked the game... And you know what? Once you've got your exams out the way, got a girl, and started living more healthily, Destiny will still be around to play if you want.
-
4 RepliesI don't know exactly how much you play, but if you can manage your time well you will still be able to play destiny. Time management is the most important skill to learn in highschool imo. I take all honors/AP courses, am a captain on the varsity tennis team, practice violin for 2 and a half to 3 hours on most days, get all A's, on the math team, record 100 community service hours yearly, and I still find time to play destiny a solid hour on most days, maybe more. Obviously on busier days I can't play but when I have less homework I have no problem being able to game and socialize. As long as you are super efficient you can do anything you want.

Self discipline is ruining your life

What I do- I play none during the week days(mon-thurs) and I can go to cross country everyday and I have all As. This is called having priorities. On weekends if I don't have a 5k or with friends I play destiny. I think my light is good for only about 20 hours since TTK launched.

3 RepliesIt's all about the get up and go. Probably gonna sound like every other adult right now, but seriously, you're 16. I remember being that age; the world was easy, everything was in grasp, I could plough ahead with not a single care for anything or anyone. This is the real world, though. In a few years, you'll be going to college/university, you'll be meeting a lot of people, and you'll be preparing yourself for what unknowns life is going to throw at you. Do you know what getting your own place to live entails? The bills? The maintenance? The cleaning? I'm gonna vouch for no. I thought I did, until I moved out when I was 19. Jeez I had no idea. I winged it the whole way. Now I'm 22 (Seems like so long ago) and I live in my own place with my girlfriend of 3 years and I'm loving life. I love playing Destiny, and I do whenever I have time, but other things take priority, like doing the laundry, or cooking for my half Greek girlfriend! (She gets grouchy when she's not fed). The point is; you're 16 and you have all the time in the world right now. You have it sweet, whereas your biggest worry is if you're spending too much time on Destiny. Set yourself a limit; a couple of hours a day for Destiny. Treat your homework/coursework like currency. If you don't have enough completed homework/coursework, then you don't have enough to play Destiny. Get out more, go for a walk. It seems like one in a million, but you have more chance of meeting a nice girl on a walk outside than you do sitting alone in your room. Eat well, learn more. Ask your parents if you can cook dinner one night a week. Try something new. Ask them to buy you the ingredients. Find more hobbies. Do more outside of Destiny. You're so bored with life that you're watching other people play Destiny while you're not playing Destiny. Although I recognise this as something a lot of people do, and I'm not going to discredit that, but if you have that much spare time and you're clearly unhappy about it, do something about it! Send me a message if you need any more advice. Same goes for anyone else reading this.

I had the same problem but with clash of clans yes it's so addicting and I used it to relax and get away from school and my social life. But then I hit Th8 Yep That's when all hell Let lose I was addicted and couldn't stop I would leave class to go to the bathroom and play coc God It was so bad I got fat Then I Became a end of everyone's jokes! I decided it was done All I did was break my phone you don't have to go to these extreme measures but break that disc find something better to do. After I broke that phone I got a new phone and I forgot my game center so if I tried to get it again All my Game progress would be deleted. From one Addict to Another Addict of Video Games Please do your body a favor and Break the disc and delete all your achievement to this game try a sport or something that interests you that isn't Video Games Hoped this Helped

I feel you. Right now I am behind on almost all my college work. I could be working on it now.... But.... Destiny... I need my Touch of Malice. Can't stop until I have it. Speaking of, does anybody have a raid checkpoint at either the tomb ships, golgoroth's cellar, or the jumping puzzle before deathsingers? I need the fragments. Wait!! Schoolwork!! I'm so behind! But... It can wait I guess.

Hey dude idk if this will seem like much but up until recently I was just like you, but instead of destiny it was general gaming and being shut up in my room. I had my heart crushed a year back and went through a really depressed phase were I would just power on the console and just stare at the home screen, honestly by your post it seems that your acknowledging that yo have a problem and that's really good. What you need to do in my opinion is if your depressed do something about it, like talk to someone or work out, idk how well it will work for you but it did wonders for me and now I'm starting to get out more and make more acquaintances and let me tell you, life is a lot more fun and lately I've even found time to play the DLC! So good luck dude hope for the best

Youre not the only one currently pushing the world away to cope with probelms...
-
Same situation here. I'm an honor student yet I'm getting C's and F's because I can't study with destiny constantly being on my mind. It sucks, and I kinda wish someone would take it away from me. I have little to no social life and don't do anything to take care of my body. Good luck, man

If I was you I would move in with my mom and become Legend.

2 RepliesDestiny is psychological warfare, heck they even employed a psychologist to help create an addictive game. That's why you keep playing, to hit those exotics, to grind for that next piece of gear. Bungie isn't stupid, that's why they have a ten year plan.

2 RepliesThis isn't destiny's fault. Its your fault. You are the only one to blame. Period. Smh

I struggle with this myself. During H.S., I went through those days of gaming, postponing, and shutting the world out. I am currently working in college to learn more about designing games, which like destiny are incredibly fun, but don't become addictive life wreckers. It's very feasible to design games that you can set down and pick up later. But the industry doesn't have enough developers with the addictive gamer perspective. Something I hope to change. As far as advice goes, if you have money, then get an active hobby. I was playing a card game called Netrunner for a bit. The game had very satisfying mechanics and helped me cope through life stresses. Additionally the game didn't addictively steal my time. Sadly, my local gaming group dispersed and now I am playing destiny again. I like the game. It's very cool, but I can't control my gaming time. I always feel so pressured to play. If I don't play, my friends will out gear me, and I won't be able to play the raids with them. Which leads to me dropping other social aspects of my life-the wife. Not to mention the coursework I don't finish because of play time.

I understand you spend too much time on the game and you may be right buy videos games are a way better alternative to what you could be doing. Every month we hear about a school shooting, your not doing that. You just experienced heart break. Most people within your age range get suicidal after something like that, you haven't. The world's I'd messed up and you've not been drawn into it because of a game and that's pretty good imo. Become Legend... keep playing

3 RepliesEdited by Fez1996: 9/28/2015 7:29:28 PMYou just have to find something else you really enjoy, like a sport or instrument. I've been there buddy and it sucks, video gaming is a real addiction to some people. I almost didn't finish high school last year I was there 63 days out of my senior year and why? Because I was at home playing destiny. My girlfriend of 3 years even left me for playing to much. I finally got my shit together and got a job, graduated, got my girl back so just keep your head up bud you will get threw this just like did.
