• Destiny's shallow garbage. Your response is normal, and not just normal, intended. Bungie uses Destiny as a pseudo ponzi scheme (in fairness all game companies are trying it). If you feel manipulated, it's because you were. Just ditch Destiny, you'll be fine. https://www.psychologytoday.com/blog/bozo-sapiens/200912/trust-me-why-ponzi-schemes-work

  • I am 32 and had to check myself as well. This is a lesson everyone has to learn in one way or another. It is very much an addiction. Make your success in life a priority and draw out your plan to get there. Recognizing your problem is a step in the right direction. Good luck.

    • I recommend you put the Xbox somewhere where you like in a closet or something and don't touch it until you have done all your homework and studying and then go run for 30 minutes and then you should get the Xbox and play. Just set a schedule you have to do before you can ever even touch it.

      • Just sent a bunch of suggestions via PM, let me know if I can be of any help. Game addiction is real and can seriously harm your life and mental wellbeing (just like any addiction), and I've been in your shoes.
Why destiny is ruining my life
Back in January, I started running a second and then a third character. More characters mean more drops which means more upgrade materials, legendaries, and exotics. I hit max level pretty quickly but man, the grind was real. With the current race to level 300, the grind is more real than ever. Now I'm seeing a lot of my friends forming raid teams before I even log on at night. Combine this with the very looooong quests such as the Crucible quests and The Taken War, and I feel like the way Bungie wants me to play "Destiny" is just not compatible with the way I want to play games much less the way I need to live my life.

        • This problem will continue into your later life, you obviously have an addictive personality, which is exactly why bungie designed destiny the way it is, to get people like u easily hooked. I'm gonna say you'll be a junkie by the time your 21 if u can't stop playing a repetitive as -blam!- game. Sort yourself out before your addicted to crack instead.

        • Workout wail playing destiny. And from a dropout GED grad just do that homework and shit. If you drop to far behind you got to deal with some bullshit. Easier just to do the work.

Staying inside for years playing xbox didn't have any lasting effect on me or my confidence or ablity to interact with people.

        • Stay strong dude, I have no suggestions for how to stop playing aside from getting out the house. You need to reconnect with ur HUMAN self and not your virtual character. Solitary walks in a natural environment work absolute wonders for me when life shit gets too much. You got remember man, DESTINY is not your friend, it's a game designed to keep you hooked. The fact that you admit ur addicted Is awesome! I bet they're are many MANY people on here who won't own up to that.

        • This is a very real condition - why is the gaming industry ignoring this? Developers need to take responsibility and get together and come up with something to help people in this situation. Destiny is an addiction, why else would you do the same thing over and over and over again?? My advice? Go for a run, limit yourself to just the daily missions, do your homework first! Try and get to a point where you are in control and not the game. Remember: Destiny isn't going anywhere, as much as you think you're missing out, you're really not! Good luck

            • You have to make yourself. Make a decision and when the internal battle starts, tell yourself there's no rationalizing it. You're not going to play. But you need to have a planned alternative ready. For instance going on a 30 minute run. (Already have the route planned so you have no doubt as to what you're doing) or go wash your car (or your parents if that's whose car you drive). Have something planned. And do not allow yourself to talk yourself out of not playing. Self control. Embrace the fact that you will not play.

              • at the moment I am away camping for a week, the week before hand I had nonstop been playing Destiny so hopefully I this week off will let me break the chains on my addiction, I won't stop playing entirely but hopefully I could play less. What I'm saying is if you get invited anywhere over the holidays, or even on a weekend, definitely take that offer because whether or not it helps with your addiction, it will keep you off the game for some time so that's good. Another helpful tip would be to unsubscribe from every destiny YouTuber that you watch, this way you won't be as tempted to connect back into the game when you aren't playing it.
