Story Time
Hmm.. Wait.. Is this thing on? ..Testing..
Hello Guys, it is 6am, My son is knocked out on my chest, I'm wide awake, sitting in the dark, and I would love to make a simple guide on ultimately going for an Oryx kill. And while we are at it, let's get you 300+ light!
My father plays destiny. He is 46, and has an account on both Xbox One and PS4. Yes he plays a lot of destiny. Surprisingly, not as much as I do. Although I feel my father and I are world's apart being that he solely plays on PS4 now and I'm on the Xbox One, that doesn't stop me from walking into the next room and checking on his progress! Yes, I live with my parents, and have a baby boy. Let's get back to the story.
My father tends to walk into the room I'm staying in to see what progress I've made myself. A few days ago, while checking on his progress. I found him in a poorly lit, quiet, cold living room scrolling on his smart phone in hopes to find someone to help him out with a particular story mission that he was having difficulty completing. I felt horrible. I love my father, and I wish I could throw a million old men at him that play destiny and share his gaming passion, that would be mature and respectful. I wish trolls and negativity never existed so my father wouldn't have to put up with all the mess it brings and always have fun when he's not working. But it's a messy world we live in, and we can't shelter our loved ones forever! He is also dying to raid and he has no hope in ever getting the raid done or experiencing it for that matter.
I'm calling this guide simple because, I'm going to write it out so my father can follow it simply. I'm calling it lazily written and non detailed because I'm literally laying on the floor, with my son on top of me, with access to only one of my hands. I'm going off my memory banks from the good ol' noggin. I'm not opening up any other pages to look up info on anything. So, without further ado. Let's Go!
Enough About You! Where Do I Start?
Okay, Okay... Are you level 40 yet? Let's go get that.
- If you're a brand new player, and want to reach 40 asap, and do not have access to that light crystal thingy that boosts you to level 25 and only care about reaching level 40 asap and killing oryx. Finish the story asap. Do All Of Your Bounties Possible
- Once done with the story, if you're not 40 yet, crucible the rest or tackle the new quests! It's not hard to reach 40. It's fairly quick.
I bet most, if not all of you reading this is probably level 40 already. Bare with me, just wrote all that previous stuff to make this seem informative and to look like I know what I'm talking about.
I'm level 40
This is where the non detailed part comes in. I think...
-At level 40, you should be doing your quests. Upon completing a handful of quests, you will notice you have received a few peices of gear with a light level of 300 if not more. That's great, now you have some peices that are already averaged at 300.
-You will constantly receive gear as both drops and your engram decryptions with a light level ranging from 5% below your light level, and above your light level. This percentage is not the exact amount I'm sure, but the idea is there. So for example, if you have a light level of 250, your blue drops can be a 240 light level peice of gear, or a 260 light level peice of gear.
- Legendary gear and exotic gear are the only gear that can be infused for a higher light level. Either keep infusing your way to 300 light for your legendary/exotic setup. Or just keep equipping the higher blues to save you a large chunk of legendary marks.
- Always have your light level as high as possible. When decrypting your engrams, or when killing a monster. That gear obtained will be based off your current light level. So always be as high as possible for better gear.
-Save as much legendary marks as possible. If throughout your journey, you have yet to get an above average legendary/Exotic "Sniper", and "LMG". Then that is what we need to buy with our marks. If you haven't choose a faction yet, I strongly suggest doing so. There are some awesome Lmg's and Snipers to be sold from there. Especially "The New Monarchy". The Sniper rifle and Lmg will Get you through all obstacles for this raid including bosses. If you need a good primary, choose what feels best for you, but there is a handcannon that already has the perk of dealing extra damage to "The Taken". It's The Imago. It's a great primary to get rid of ads throughout the raid. My father and I both received one from crucible. I'd suggest farming there.
-Be sure to keep any gear that allows you to have more ammunition for your sniper/Lmg, along with gear that allows you to reload these weapons faster. DPS(Damage Per Second), is the keyword for this raid. Everything must die fast.
-See what Xur has on weekends, that can help you with what we are looking for here.
I'm 300 now! Or 290 at least
-Keep grinding for the bare minimum of 295 please to easily find great teams. But im here to tell you that you can reach 300 light level without any raid gear by simply, playing the game.
- Have your best Primary, Sniper, Lmg at this point, with no knowledge of raiding, while sitting at level 300 light at this point to be ready for the rest of this guide.

6 RepliesCont.. Here is what you are going to do -We are going to find you a team! -If you have 0 friends on your friends list, or might as well have, then find a team on the Destiny app, or website under forums -> Recruitment. I personally use to find a team almost instantly at any time. -For your first time going into the raid, you are going to purposely post "looking for first time Raiders or anyone willing to help" on the body of the post or info section. Or! You can recruit people from the forums or LFG, that posted that they are first timers. Send these hopefully awesome humans a party invite, and Say "Hey!" -Once you have your team of 6. Pat yourself on the back because you have made it from doubting you will ever raid, to being a worthy challenger looking The Kings Fall raid in the eyes at the orbit with 5 others who are probably going to fail you miserably. Good job Guardian. - Now listen closely. Your current goal is not to finish that whole raid. Your goal, is to look up on YouTube exactly how to beat that first part, and then beat that first part like it's never been beatin before! Sadly I'm not going to tell you how to beat each part of the raid, I am here to help get you prepared and to give you the mindset needed to tackle this raid. -Now that you are done with that first part, you can do one of two things. Get your first chest of basically nothing important to you right now that follows that segment then quit. Or get as far as possible with your fireteam for pure fun and to get familiar with the mechanics of everything you are going to come across. Understand this, You Are Not Going To Finish That Whole Raid That Day. You'll be lucky to get halfway through. But do as you please. -If you did not quit after first chest, then continue through until you are as far as you can go. -If you quit, Go and repeat what you did from the beginning for the next checkpoint of the raid, which would be "Totems". Kind of a selfish route to take, but this is a messy world we live in! Continue to find an inexperienced team for each checkpoint. Youtube how to get it done, then attempt it till completed, or until you are convinced that you are doing your part 100% perfect and understand it. Then find a team that is experienced to help get you through that checkpoint. -Keep following this process till you reach Oryx, Or! Skip the whole raid and just youtube how to beat Oryx, and find an inexperienced team with Oryx checkpoint and try it with them until you understand it completely, then quit and find a group of 300+ and do that final fight with them because 9 out of 10 times, those 300+ players are players that jumped from 285 or 290 straight to 300+ from raid gear and know what they are doing. You will easily get accepted into these "elite" groups that kill oryx much easier than anyone else as long as you meet their requirements of... - 300 light level - Having a Great Sniper Rifle - Having a Great Light Machine Gun - And answering the question of "Do you know what you're doing", with a "Oh yeaaa baby! " -Now you'll have the best odds you will ever have in defeating oryx. Notes On Oryx Specifically Okay guys, I need everyone to take a second and keep these few things in mind when it comes to the final fight. - You can literally say the end fight is easy if you understand it. What makes it tough is that, 1 of the 6 fire team members will mess up every now and then again and again, costing you the whole run. - Pick a spot! Choose a spot and stick to it so you can be the best at that spot than anyone else. -There is literally one thing that has to be done at a time over and over again. It's not like other challenges where it's " Kill this guy fast! While passing around a curse effect every 30 seconds while detonating bombs!" Guys I hope I made something decent for you all to follow. My GT, My Fathers PSN GT: Mr Happy Wars PSN: Djmachete1
