I'm probably taking the risk that Bungie will see this post, make angry faces, and tell me to remove information about a "Classified" weapon. But, screw it.
For those of you who don't yet know (and yes, there are these people), there is a reward to finding those Calcified Fragments on the Dreadnaut. That reward is, quite possibly, the most OP weapon in the game: The Touch of Malice Scout Rifle.
The steps required to obtain this weapon is simple to explain -not so simple to do.
1) find a fragment
2) show the pretty fragment to Eris
3) find 5 fragments
4) become a homewrecker
5) find 20 fragments
6) give Eris a metric fukton of Hadium and wormsperm *cough* wormspore
7) find 30 fragments
8) kill the Undying Mind because reasons
9) find 45 fragments
10) do the Fears Embrace mission and slot some random bitch wizard.
11) obtain the Malice
12) laugh manically while shooting enemies with it
13) inevitably kill yourself with the gun by accident -don't judge, it happens!
Now, to start off, this gun looks great. It's creepy, it's eerie, it looks like some torture device out of a nightmare, and i love it all. The sights on it look gorgeous, and the orb sitting in the middle grows in size once you reach the final round in the mag. The devs did a great job in making this weapon capture the essence of the Hive, and Eris' undying hatred of all things Hive.
But, since looks can't kill (unless you're an Ogre), this weapon comes packed with some serious firepower, instead. Despite having the kick of a pissed-off mule, this is a high-impact scout rifle, with a high rate of fire, and a natural Full Auto Perk -all of which offset the recoil problem. The small 11-round mag size is a blessing, believe it or not. In fact, some people may wish it was smaller.
The first exotic perk on this gun is what truly makes it shine -and is the reason Oryx doesn't answer my calls, anymore. The Touch of Malice perk regenerates the final round in the mag, at the cost of the shooter's health. Sounds kinda dangerous and risky, right? Oh, did i mention it also increases the damage of the last round by 150%?
This perk is amazing, but as mentioned, very risky. Damage boost or not, you're still using a gun that kills you. Thankfully, Eris, the one who made the gun, wasn't completely brain dead yet. The second exotic perk, Touch of Mercy, grants you 1\4 of your health back after getting a triple kill. Nifty, right?
While this gun is naturally fun and satisfying to use anyway, it truly shines at one particular point: Oryx. If you ever have anybody with Touch of Malice in your raid team, they pretty much should always be your relic runner. While everybody else is running for the dark orbs, the relic runner can just sit in the middle and shoot Oryx nonstop. You cant die, you cant reload, your bullets do 1.1k damage, so where's the downside? You can easily add an extra 60k dmg to Oryx per-rotation -and this is just a primary! I shudder to think what an entire raid team could do to Oryx using only Touch of Malice.
In PvP, this weapon is still effective, but the Malice perk is rebalanced a bit. With Malice active, precision hits deal 62 damage, which is still incredibly promising, considering the high rate of fire. While the health drain might be a turn-off for using this in the Crucible, you would be surprised at how brutal this gun can be in the hands of a skilled user. Put simply, any confrontation where you shoot first, you will most likely win. Any confrontation where you don't shoot first, you'll most likely take your opponent down with you. It's incredibly effective, and not to be underestimated. Health drain be damned, do not underestimate Malice -ever!
While this gun requires a lot of work to obtain, the effort is most certainly worth it. Be it trash mobs, Epic enemies, or even Gods, Touch of Malice easily feels like one of the most OP weapons in the game, at the moment. Despite the fact that your own gun is killing you, you'll find yourself never wanting to set it down. But hey, you know what they say: What doesn't kill you makes you stronger -and Malice drives that point home.
