I've found the drop rate averages 1 exotic for every 6 ToC kills. Farmed the Scourge of Winter lvl 14 boss for about 2 hours all together. Consume the ToC. 4 black hammer crits from the door takes him to a sliver of health. Run up to him and blow him and yourself up with a rocket. That takes about 25 seconds. If every run went like that it would still be 3 minutes per exotic. Problem is you have to farm for ammo. And, while you're there killing majors and Ultras you might as well equip and start leveling your new stuff. DO NOT dismantle your new exotics. All the repeats are 290 light and can be infused into low level legendary gear to turn it into instant 285'ish light gear. Doesn't matter what class either. E.g. hunter exotic will infuse into titan legendary etc. One more tip. Once you've obtained year two stuff you can buy the 280 light blue print for glimmer, not marks. They can then be used to infuse low light legendary gear. Edit: consume only 1 ToC prior to entering the room and killing the boss each time. Edit 2: numerous people were calling OP out for bad info so he deleted the majority of his post. Just follow the guide above and you'll be fine. As an fyi; an ultra that counts is any yellow bar with a skull and cross bones and who has a name in his health bar. E.G. Taniks, Draksis, etc. Any you want to farm will work.
