I see alot of people on the forums defending the the $20 emote bundle. They are comparing it to the Dark Below and the House of Wolves and saying that anyone who bought those has no right to criticize etc etc blah blah blah.
Those people are extremely ignorant and I am going to explain why
DLC
Content that was created AFTER launch in order to lengthen the gaming experience. This content can come in the form of new maps, missions, characters, locations, items etc etc. The key thing is however is that DLC was created AFTER the initial release and SEPARATELY from the game itself.
It is a standalone product created by the same team at a later date or sometimes by a separate team entirely.
Cut-Content
This is content that was already completed in the base game or could have been easily added to the base game and was instead removed from the game for the sole purpose of holding it ransom for a profit. This most often comes in the form of cosmetics such as emotes, weapon skins, color schemes etc etc.
This is content that could have easily been included in the base game or in a DLC but has been set aside in order to be sold separately.
Pre-Order bonuses fall under the category of cut content as well. As it was completed BEFORE the launch of the game but was removed and held hostage in order to make you spend money.
There is a clear difference people
- One is an accepted form of lengthening the life of a game through post-production development.
- The other is a disgusting money grab that deprives you of content that you otherwise SHOULD have gotten with your initial purchase of the game or its subsequent DLC.
And don't give me that "But its Collectors edition content bruh"
"Collectors Edition" content is nothing more than a glorified Pre-Order bonus. It just sounds alot less shady and costs a whole lot more.
You people need to wake the -blam!- up and realize this has NOTHING to do with money and EVERYTHING to do with the principle of the situation. The fact that you are being tricked into paying for stuff that you would have gotten in the first place if you people would just STOP BUYING THEIR CUT CONTENT.
TL;DR
Stop comparing the cut content of the Emote bundle to the expansions. They are not the same thing. Stop paying for cut content and stop being an uninformed gullible consumer.

1 ReplyWhy would anyone pay for emotes hahahaha what a waste of cash just to do some type of wave or crappy dancing.

But dat sweet sweet kool-aid is favorite flavor. Grape Drink for days! 😎

I enjoy the game, but I'm not blind. I believe there was content cut and re hashed into DLC instead. However, with each new "DLC" that gets added on, all those areas that we are blocked off from before, become available, one by one. Pretty soon even the most clever glitchers will run out of areas to explore, simply because it will all be available at some point. It will be interesting to see if Bungie actually makes legitimate DLC, or they still have a few more aces up their sleeves, (think dreadnaught, Saturn's rings for crucible maps, etc). Just my opinion however.

Seeing as it doesn't actually add gameplay it doesn't fall under cut content in my mind. Yes their price tag is way too high for hat you get, but this is basically horse armor. Plus the only reason they are doing this is because they originally wanted some neat incentive for new people to preorder, but everyone complained so much about 3 measly emotes and shaders they eventually just said, "fine! You want you damn emote without paying $80??? Here ya go."
-
5 RepliesPersonally I don't care. I'll pay the admission they ask for, I enjoy the game. I think Disneyland is overpriced but if you want to see it you pay the asking price. It's called a free market. Your complaining is not gonna stop millions of people who enjoy the game to pay up just so you can get an emote for free.

10 RepliesSadly we do not know ( especially you) what is cut or not. And do give me that "oh well there are areas that you can glitch in too, so therefore is cut." And then finish with this "I don't work for bungie but I know I'm right, and if you disagree then you are a gullible, blind, sheep, desticle, fool, the kinda person Activision likes, and all of the above person."
-
You've got some valid points. But,what you're referring to as cut content, including the pre order and collectors editions, have no effect on the games playability. That's why I don't have an issue with Bungie handling some of the stuff the way they are. If someone wants to pay a little for aesthetic changes that have no bearing on the game, let em. I don't like micro transactions, hell I'm not a huge fan of dlc packs, but that's gaming today. The ones that are going for this don't get a leg up in the game, so I'm not worried about it.

Define should have gotten

3 Replies(Not defending CE buyers are their filth dance moves) but dark below and HoW was cut content as you could glitch into the Sepherhim vault at launch

As usual I don't agree with your point at all, but as always I respect you for articulating it in a way that leaves room for meaningful discussion and participating in such yourself on other threads. Thanks for not being toxic, buddy.

4 RepliesGames are a product, we are consumers. They would like to make profit, so they can pay their employees and taxes and fund later projects. We have the power to decide over our use of our money. So them selling "cut content" is a business strategy to earn more, it makes sense that they should, and their target demographic is the fans that enjoy the game and would like some extra stuff. Don't want to spend $20 extra? Simply don't. Gonna cry since you feel entitled to every bit of their labour? Please don't
-
3 RepliesYou make several well thought out points, which are probably true for the most part. The problem with your argument is that people are not being cheated if they enjoy playing the game, if people are excited about playing the new content, and if they are willing to pay bungies asking price. If the Destiny community doesn't feel cheated then they haven't been cheated. It's simply supply and demand. Our desire to play the game out ways the higher than normal price and the perceived lack of content. Let the market dictate bungies pricing structure.

Just gonna let everyone know this guy's name is a Bleach reference.

Don't most developers have at least some of their team working on the DLCs during Nain development? I'd think so. To think that everything had to be "from the ground up" post-launch in order to be true DLC is a bit of a stretch, don't you think? Now, if a dev sold you something immediately after launch, that's a different story.
-
Idgaf if you buy 20 dollars on something but in this case, i do. If they see they can sell FUUUUUCCCCKKKKIIIINNNN DAAAAAANNNNNCCCEEEE MOVES FOR 20 DOLLARS, THE SAME PRICE AS A FULL DLC, THEY ARE GOING TO PULL SO MUCH BULLSHIT AND PROBABLY SELL THE NEXT DLC FOR 60 DOLLARS THX FILTHY CE BUYERS ;)
-
Often times, developers will assign teams to work on DLC as personnel are freed up from working on the base game. i.e. the concept artist for the base game doesn't have anything left to work on for the main game so he gets to working something for the DLC. Here's another way of looking at it. If production is done, then what are you going to do with 50 some artists you have? You can't pay them to do nothing, and while you can lay them all off and send them looking for jobs, its best if you can keep all of those people employed. So what do you do? Putting them to work on some DLC would be a good use of those personnel until they are needed for primary projects again.

1 ReplyLol you're stupid. Simply put dlc is any content that is downloadable, cut-content is a child's way of complaining about the fact they still have to borrow money from their mother.
-
2 RepliesEdited by Rabid: 9/14/2015 12:28:13 AMOr could just make a complete game and story last x amount of years cut what u think is needed for each dlc to complete it can't just throw everything out at once or will get ran threw to fast

You sir, are a dumbass. Muted
-
8 RepliesDo you know what DLC stands for? Downloadable Content. So, what is a DLC? Anything that is downloadable. So if you can download previously cut content, it's a DLC. Thanks for exposing yourself as another ignorant dumbass though (:
-
So in other words, every expansion or DLC that is announced before the game launches means that it's complete? That would mean that the Witcher 3 DLC is currently complete since we know the DLC names? Or the cod DLC is complete because we know it's name? You can argue that TDB and HOW content was cut all you want but it can never be proven and just because you can glitch into an area that is on the disc doesn't mean anything, you can do that on wow, gta, elderscrolls, fallout, any big game will have unused assets that developers will use later as it's cheaper to use then develop new areas. TTK is a complety new expansion however, nothing from it was ever on the disc and everything was added in the 18GB update (hence why it was so large). As for the emote DLC, I do admit that this is a little bs. The price for 3 emotes, 3 shaders & 3 class armors is a little over the top..
-
Remember that salty Prothean guy you hung out with in "Mass Effect 3"? I don't, because it was cut content and I refused to buy it.
-
The subclasses were cut. But that is the only thing that seems to actually be cut for original launch

Destiny has cut content sadly
