So my son got a restriction today for backing out of matches in trials yesterday, and I grounded him from Destiny for a month. I know it is "just a video game", but cheating is cheating, and I will not tolerate it. The thing is he's pretty decent in crucible (way better than me), and he probably could've gone flawless with the right team. My ex wife doesn't understand it, but she backs my decision. He claims he didn't know, but we've had discussions about it before while doing random activities with myself and other clan members. What does the community think about this?

your a good rolemodel teaching your son that certain actions have consequenses i support you all the way .

You know, it's funny. Can't come up with anything original, so you just tweak a person's post GG

GR8 B8 M8 I R8 8/8 CUZ IT'S F8 M8 WHEN I SK8 FOR K8 ON A L8 D8. Nice Copy Post.

Ex-wife? You didn't cheat on the first one, did you?

6 RepliesAs a 48 year old father of four, my opinion is that you overreacted and blew an opportunity to teach by overreacting. If it's a pattern, then rest assured you will not be the one your son comes to when he has a real problem to deal with.

I think you did the right thing. People who rationalize cheating over small things, will soon look for reasons to cheat over larger things. Character matters. Nice job in making that clear to your son. Because if YOU don't teach him that....the world eventually will. ...and it won't be with something as gentle as being grounded for a month.
-
He's probably gonna piss his pants when he finds out he'll miss taken King launch.
-
I think you did the right thing. Cgeating and lying in any respect leads to other bad habits.
-
A month is pretty severe, coming from someone who works with kids. You definitely did the right thing though, kids these days think if something is too tough, than it isn't worth doing. Good job dad, maybe like a week or two if he behaves though.
-
It's the right thing to do but a month seems a little too much, idk i dont have kids anyway. Plus it was only destiny also
-
Well done! Some people may not agree and some say it's just a game ...etc But the fact is whatever you do, will reflect on your character and personality. The lesson here is clear. Cheating is indeed cheating, no matter what. I salute you!

Smart parents but I used to do it before the ban hammer so yeah imo it's not cheating because final round is the only reason I used to leave games since its annoying as -blam!-

Edited by InsaneLemur: 9/2/2015 12:07:53 PMI grounded my son twice for cheating in multiplayer games and my wife was completely on board.

Let him play the day of release of Ttk
-
Good idea. No-one should cheat in trials, but it will be very hard for him not to play ttk
-
Make it a the ban until a day after TTK release just so he can only watch you play ;) But seriously just make the ban until a couple of days before TTK release
-
Bit long on the duration my man. I think a week would be fine.
-
Understandable, but probably a bit harsh on the duration. Especially with TTK release so near. But yeah gotta be hard on cheating.
