Why wouldn't you put infuse on year 1 gear??...
What I propose:
Level all the year 1 gear to 160 A/D or whatever but put the infuse option on it. Keep in mind one legendary moved the Attack on Deej's gun like 8 points... getting to 280 alone is not going to be an easy task and will take a ton of legendary gear. Sticking with a 280 newby gun is going to be much more alluring...
For all the sheeple:
Yes, people will still seek out and use the new gear even if they have an option to use the old gear...
No, I am not saying the new stuff should continue to be the top tier stats on Sept 15, I do think we should be able to get it there though if we want to.

1 ReplyWARNING! Read all before you rant. I want year 1 weapons to be ascended because people like me have grown attached to guns like fatebringer, VoC, found verdict, etc. They are fun to use and perks that current and future guns don't have. And year 2 players could have access to having these guns. We are supposed to "become legend," right? How can "become legend" when we have to change our guardian's style and personality every year? BUT... I also don't want them to be ascended because it would seem boring to use the same guns for 10 years (if this series goes on that long). Also if we keep our old stuff, then what's the purpose of making the new stuff? Noobs would only benefit from new gear. Like I said, year 1 guns would have perks that the year 2 players have no way of getting. And some don't mind the no ascending because they simply look forward to the new weapons. Who knows, maybe you will find that one TTK piece that you will fall in love with. When TTK drops, the legend of year 1 weapons will be fully written. Now it's time to carry our legend to new heights. Ascending or not, I'm fine with whatever bungie does. There are positives and negatives for each side. So I am staying neutral because I can live with either decision.

Would be nice if they'd actually make up their mind about what the hell they wanted to do with the weapons and armor, every dlc it's something different.

When someone asks you how you got that sweet launcher years from now, you'll say: 'Let me tell you a story'. [Hey, that sounds neat!] TDB: "We want you to move on, explore the new gear as you grow. You'll find new favorites to replace the old. It was never our intention for gear to be carried through for 10 years." [Interlude for internet rage] HOW: "Making gear obsolete was a mistake, we realize this now. We want your gear to grow with you, we understand you have favorites and we want you to be able to use them and be part of your legend, if you want to use your Fatebringer on your journey, you can" [Yay! Let's grind for Etheric Light!] TTK: "Look, we never intended for you to have the same raid legendaries, legendary weapons and armor. Our job as developers is to create new favorites that naturally replace the old ones, as you move on." [But...but...you said...] Hmmm....what I wish is that they would make up their minds. Pick a plan, stay with it so I know what is a waste of time or not. This seems too much like: "Keep them happy, keep them playing until they get all the stuff. Then we force new stuff to keep them playing some more." Not that I am opposed to this, but I just want to know. Like, what should I be doing? I just played HOW, grinding away for light then...BOOM...it's all pointless! EDIT: These are not actual quotes, but paraphrase of the ideas they expressed at each juncture. 1 ReplyGear progression. Don't like it? Head back to hello kitty online.
-
And let everyone continue using the same core group of guns forever? No. Thank god Bungie won't change it.

1 ReplyEdited by BERSEKAEL: 8/21/2015 11:41:13 PMThe main reason why year one will be useless is due to lack of burn protection/burst. I would go solar gear protection for pvp.

1 ReplyEdited by bcmatt13: 8/21/2015 11:14:26 PMThat defies the whole point of leaving them behind in year one. Nobody is going to use old gear when fatebringer is still viable

I agree... They more than doubled the vault space so it's not like we aren't going to get new gear... I still have my original vanguard gear and I don't want to get rid of it. If they really don't want us to use the old armour, why don't they give us a vanity slot? That at least solves the 1 exotic thing and the people not wanting to move on with armour... Either way I think forcing people to move on is the wrong way to go... They should show love to the people that has been here since the beginning and spent all that money on them.

1 ReplyBecause they have a 10 year plan for destiny adding new gear every step of the way. Think about how much gear is in year 1 alone, it would be ridiculous to have 10 times as many guns that are all max level by the end of destiny. Not only that, but it would make all the guns you love now a lot less unique because with all the new guns coming out over the next year (let alone the next 9) there are bound to be some that are similar too old guns. You can only manipulate gun stats so much. ...and don't forget, you can still use your old guns! They'll be just as powerful in year 1 content or regular crucible, where power doesn't matter. They aren't completely getting left behind.

2 RepliesIt doesn't work that way... End of story

1 ReplyYeah! Why can't I play with my cowboys and Indians anymore?
-
The reason they are not letting people pull across old gear is because they are trying to wipe out all the old removed perks, such as final round, firefly and double down (on snipers for the first two anyway.) They removed final round between TDB and HoW and then added the ability to ascend to which people just ascended there old final round snipers there for making removing them from snipers almost pointless.
