So, I just started playing on XBox 360 and I'm a level 27 (got lucky with a blue engram & it turned purple). A few days ago, I tried my hand at Crucible. Well, trying to make new friends, I had the "manually opt-in when solo" option for team chat on and then everyone else on the team also joined team chat because they were in a fireteam. Probably because I'm a girl. -_-; So I'm not the best PvPer. The heavy drops, enemies were coming but they were screaming at me to wait. I couldn't wait because three of the enemies had supers. So I took it and died right afterwards. They were like, "I hope you choke on a dick and die, you c*nt." Then, I started getting kill after kill. "Stop stealing the kills! I wish I could kick you from the game & in real life." I ended up on top of the leaderboards because the rest of my team was awful. But the worst one: "I hope you get ovarian cancer and are never able to have children so they don't turn out as ugly and awful you are."
I left the team channel and started to cry because I actually can't have kids. ):
Edit: I did not create this post for attention, I am not lying about it, I reported every single one of them to Microsoft. Oh, and another thing: to those of you who were sad to hear my story, thanks for your condolences. The rest of you who are just here calling me an attention whore, you can STFU because I just wanted to share my story and did not expect to get this many responses - good and bad. I learned my lesson. No more team chat for me.
Edit: Read the entire post because I edited it to prove it isn't fake.
FINAL EDIT: I don't want empathy or sympathy and I am aware that guys get trash talked to them too. I just wanted to address the situation I was in. I needed to vent. I made a mistake by not muting my mic or just leaving the team chat, like everyone has so rudely suggested and calling me names because I failed to do it. I was not thinking due to the tears in my eyes and trying to keep my composure.
NerdGirl out!

Awww man, this dude just said if this were real life he would slaughter me because I am better than him and use shotgun

Give a person a screen to hide behind and they'll say some terrible things. Don't let those a'holes get you down keep fighting the good fight and remember to always smile... While You plots their demise.

1 ReplyI don't understand why anytime someone posts on these forums that someone has to come in and start attacking the person. All of you telling her to STFU really need to re-evaluate yourselves. Does it give you a sense of accomplishment to talk to another person like that? You all know damn well you would not say that to a person's face irl.

1 ReplySorry for all this shit. The amount of people that are openly sexist and racist in game on mic is pretty disgusting. Reporting to xbox and bungie is definately the right call.
-
1 ReplyYou're better off posting in DestinyTheGame subreddit. The community there is more respectful and helpful. Bungie forums are mostly filled with toxic people.
-
Well I might get some hate mail for this but nerd girl I am definitely praying for you and those guys who talked to you like that.
-
Bummer. I should have kept a log of all the shit i got from Xbox live back then. Luckily i have a wonderful group of friends now that i play with regularly to avoid random spontaneous douchebaggery.

Edited by xELFHEROx: 8/18/2015 2:34:33 AMSo many people think this story is a lie, so what if it is a lie, there are people out there that have fallen victim to these types of situations. Think of nerdgirl as multiple people instead of just one and quit trying to down her further. The one thing that you can look on the bright side about for talking this way is this, she actually took the time to write a story about you.

4 RepliesHahahaha omg I was in your game........ Awkward
-
6 RepliesThat sucks, sorry to hear about your bad experience. It's the reason why I avoid strangers in this game. I swear this game has the absolute worst player community of any game that I've ever played.
-
34 RepliesFake story is fake. I like how you somehow knew the three enemies coming at you had supers. There must be some exotic perk that nobody else but you has which can detect when an enemy has a charged up super.
-
That's awful, come join our clan none of this stuff goes on we have a laugh we are no means experts but a good bunch. Would be happy to have you

1 ReplyEdited by Blue: 8/16/2015 5:37:07 PMAhh the crucible, well as Lord Shax always says "Show them no mercy!"
-
This is why I don't even try anymore. There are a ton of great gamers who are willing to talk and have fun playing. But most of the people think that internet anonymity is all that is necessary to be a dick. It absolutely sucks, but not expecting to get teabagged and ragged on and cussed out, is a naive dream now, one that has become an accepted way of gaming.

1 ReplyI am one of the people that was in the game that she is talking about, i wasnt using my mic at the time so i didnt hear the team chat, i feel awful that there are so many sexist gamers out there, i think the idea of more female gamers, and lately there has been a lot of sexist action in the gaming community as a whole, and i really want to put an end to this.

4 RepliesHoly shit I actually got reported and had my comment deleted for calling this story fake. What a bunch of bitches
-
Omg I feel so sorry for you
-
3 RepliesAlong with using the XBL reporting tool, be sure to use the Destiny in-game reporting feature as well (linked) when encountering blatant hate like you described.
-
This story is awesome. Best way to stick it to a bunch of tools is by dominating them. Make your way over to X1, it's a better crowd ;)

1 ReplyOnly turn on your mic when you know the people you are playing with. (A clan really helps with this.) Most of the guys I have met on Destiny in game are pretty nice but like everywhere there will always be a few jerks. Ignore the complaints about the heavy. Unless someone is in crucible for the first time we all know the drop times and places. If a team member isn't in the room when heavy drops then waiting is a bad idea. If the guys yelling at you had been at the drop you all could have blasted the other team. It's not your fault they were not paying attention. I am sorry they were so rude to you. Some people get really weird about their k/d or about other players having a higher score and go off on you but luckily most people just want to have fun and win the match.

2 RepliesI wonder if this is going to be a "thing" now where people get insulted and come to the forums to tell us about it. I should probably start some sort of book compiling information about the abuses people have to endure online. I shall call it, The Trials and Tribulations of the online world. Page after page of horror.

I'm sorry that someone would treat you that way and as a guardian I know plenty of female guardians who a lot better ant the game at me! Hit me up with a friend request of your ever feeling down.
-
Feel free to join up and send me a FR. Play with loads of female players. Couldn't care less about gender.

I am sorry that someone was that horrible to you. It is completely unacceptable to talk to someone that way. I play with a woman on a regular basis (I hate even having to point out as she is just a Guardian like me) that is quite frankly a better player than me or any of my male friends. She has dealt with some jerks and understands that she as a woman could get some unique abuse but also knows that men can get unique abuse as well. I wish I could help you level and tackle end game content but I am on the Xbox One. If you are looking to tackle anything with a group use Destiny Reddit and the subreddits r/fireteams or r/destinysherpa. I have never had a bad experience with people from there and they have been super nice. If you ever get an One and need a teammate do not hesitant to add me and send me an invite. You should also look into Dames of Destiny they are a clan composed entirely of women that promote a healthy and safe environment for their members. The multi gender clan by the same creator SafeGamers has the same purpose. Hopefully this does not put you off the Destiny community as I have found it to be one of the most accepting and understanding of any gaming community I have been a part of.
