OK. Lets start off by acknowledging a couple of issues.
1. I am not very good at crucible
2. I am willing to learn from some good advise
I started playing crucible in earnest recently. Started with a very low K/D and am slowly increasing it but mostly below 1 anyways.
My goals are modest I want to have a K/D of > 1.0 in almost all games I play so that I can be net positive contributor to the team score. Any tips and suggestions would be great.
Thanks
Edit1: First of all thank you for a lot of your forum members for being patient with me and giving some valuable advise, pointing to videos and sharing your thoughts. It has been wonderful of each one of you to help get someone better :). One day I might even be good enough to play the ToO... Thank you all.

Get a shotgun with shotpackage. Next make a hunter. Learn to blink. Sorted

1. Use your surroundings. If there is a way you can get away that most people don't realize is there. Use it! 2. Use the radar as much as possible. 3. Don't be afraid to fall back. If there are too many enemies fall back to your team. And if your team is just trying to capture an objective but is getting nowhere. Go around the map and help them.

1 ReplyEdited by ash: 8/1/2015 10:02:46 PMMade a quick vid in Movie Maker with some tips that instantly spring to mind but there's a whole lot more beyond this (including stuff I'm oblivious to since I'm not exactly amazing at PvP, and rarely play it). Also is it just my imagination or is Vestian Dynasty OP? Whole vid (no Thorn or Shotguns =] ). I'd also mention things like finding good positions to hold on the maps rather than wondering around like a headless chicken. Especially if you have a team and you can position everyone so your "spots" compliment one another. Every time you die, also ask yourself "How could I have survived?". Like if you could rewind time 5-10 seconds what would you do differently. Usually it's things like backing down if you see multiple enemies, get closer to cover so you can duck out easily if you need to, or just plain swallow your pride and run if you have a bladedancer charging you

Aim at the head like this ^ ;D

It is all about being aware of your surroundings. Expecting situations before they happen. Examples. In the begining of a match know where people are going to try to snipe, what corners they will run to wait, and where your team will push. Allways try to position yourself in a "team shot" (where you and a teammate are looking at one opponent.) situation, or at least a 1on 1. Know what guns people have as the match goes on. If you have been shotgunned alot, dont chase a low health person around a corner. I garentee he will be waiting. Mix up your own gameplay so others have a harder time figuring out what you will be doing to kill them. About every 5 kills in the same area move somewhere else, somone will waste a super on just you if you are slaughtering them. Best thing is have a good team. Make call outs on enemy movements and weapons. Call out heavy spawns. Call out their own supers. Call out for help. Having teamates who move up when needed and do not hide in a corner all game.

Keep playing. I had a 2 kd around January then I stopped playing crucible except for iron banner because the pvp is complete shit and doesnt reward skill. Im currently at a 1.6 and barely ever play crucible. So continue to keep playing. Other fps games with different sensitivities throws you off a little so be weary of that and of course practice makes perfect. Experience is better than any tips anyone gives you.

2 RepliesEdited by QBAN_007: 8/2/2015 12:24:14 AMIt's so easy even a cave men can do it Go to your internet provider and get the cheapest internet service then put your console psn/xbonmers on wifi, turn every devices with wifi on, like ( iPods , tablets ect) And you should have a pretty good lag where you be dancing CANT TOUCH THIS

learn the maps and stay out of the :"hot zones".
-
Learn how to snipe, so rewarding and a lot better than being a blink-shotgun scrub. It's the best feeling when you've just outsniped everyone on the other team on pantheon.

Right now unfortunately the best way to do good is just use the OP guns. Thorn, TLW, or Red Death. Obviously you'll still need some real tips...so... Don't think about it too much, if you try really hard you won't do good. Trust me. Play on the outsides of the maps. Don't rush into the middle. Stay with your teammates. Take advantage of your guardians abilities.

2 RepliesThere are two ways you can go about this. - The Pre-Patch Beast - The Post-Patch Beast Pre-Patch Beast To be the Pre-Patch beast, you need to use either the thorn, last word or possibly the red death. These primaries are the leading weapons that are good with the current crucible meta. For a special weapon, The shotgun is the reigning king at the moment. Party crashers and Matadors are easy to come across in regular crucible. Reroll these or other shotguns such as the judgement to get rolls that include Shotpackage/rangefinder and some kind of range perk in the middle slot. Heavy weapons arent that important in regular crucible, but in trials of osiris/elimination/skirmish/salvage, a rocket launcher, preferrably proximity detonation is the better choice. The Post-Patch Beast When The taken king releases, the above strategy will become useless as bungie is nerfing all or most of these weapons. If you want to play smart, you could train yourself to use what will be the new reigning kings of crucible. Ideal primaries include the mida multitool (i am using this and loving it), the hawkmoon (this will be untouched by the patch), some pulse rifles may be viable. Auto rifles in general are getting a big buff. Any high impact, lower fire rate auto rifle archtype will be suitable post-patch. It is also expected that the necrochasm will be somewhat decent in crucible, along with hard light and others. Shotguns are getting a major nerf, so snipers are going to rule. In the right hands, they are beastly. Shadow of veils and her benevolence are easily obtainable snipers that do well in the crucible. Heavy weapons are virtually untouched with a small change to rocket launchers. Proximity detonation will still most likely be the best option. Well, that was a big post regarding weapon use. Sorry for any spelling mistakes, i wrote this on mobile. I may make another guide on strategies/subclass builds. Enjoy.

Learn when to fight or flight. As you progress focus on getting in 1v1 situations opposed to trying to kill 3 people at once. Use guns and load-outs that are comfortable to use. Use the meta weapons if you really have to but NEVER rely on just one weapon. LEARN TO VENT. I can't tell how many times i lose games because i rage and can't keep my head clear so remember, It's just a game. Learn to aim at head-level and never just run around. Jump, blink or glide around corners and make yourself as difficult as possible to be shot. Learn the map's choke points, heavy spawns, spawns, and sniping lanes. Above all....HAVE FUN! And stay positive guardian :) - L out

I was like you. Trying to find a way to be good in crucible. All you have to do is keep getting first hand experience. Learn how everyone plays and adapt to counter their attacks or beat them before the shoot. With weapons, you need to find the one that suits you and not what suits everyone else. I am good with the Vex Mythoclast (44 kill game). And if you start slumping, you can use something else. I switch to Atheon's epilogue (20 kills). But you can stick with the same weapon if you want. Thorn is a good weapon but I slumped with it and switched to the Vex and did better with it so I still use it. For special use a shotgun and heavy use a machine gun (BTRD perfered). Its gonna take time to find your perfect set up. But I hope this helped. If you still have questions I will be more than happy to answer them.

Good music helps me.

Play range with thorn and have 100% intellect
-
Dont rush in and stay alive Have a shotgun with you for close encounters

Work on decision making. Always play so that you're the one with an advantage; if playing objective play to kill everyone around the objective before attempting a capture, if playing slayer modes play safe. Either way rushing in is stupid, even with a super don't feel the need to run in to "wreck shit up" cos it's not gonna happen. Take it slow and ensure you're in a better position (more cover, better knowledge movement) throughout the maps. I see so many people die and run straight back to the place they died and get killed again... -blam!-ing useless. Play smart and work on gun skill then it becomes easy - I was in one of the top 3 clans on PS3 in my teens, won shit loads of competitions on multiple games. Now solo on Xbox as my mates have Xbox but they don't touch crucible. Also with current crucible balance you're gonna need thorn or preadyths timepiece to stand a chance. Shame it's turned into this. Hope that helps :)

2 RepliesOne of my tips for things like Trials or skirmish, is if you are burning out, try to die somewhere convenient for your allies. Dying behind a door and dying at the door is a huge difference.

Slow down and relax

1 ReplyFirst things first is you HAVE to have your skill trees set up properly. This will drastically change how good you do! Here are a few videos of how to properly set up each character for PvP. Get the last word, shotgun, and a proximity rocket launcher. After doing good in crucible with those weapons, change up to a sniper. After that, change to a pulse rifle and machine gun. Start working with the strongest tier weapons till you get use to them and start going positive. After you become comfortable with these weapons challenge yourself. Try using low time to kill weapons then go back to the weapons your most comfortable with and start wrecking the crucible. I went from auto rifle, fusion rifle to hand cannon, sniper. Sniping is awesome too since destiny has a lot of Aim Assist.

3 RepliesWhile I am average at best in pvp, the best advice I can give is if you are frustrated about dying or losing, stop playing crucible or Destiny for awhile. Playing while frustrated leads to doing stupid things like being overly aggressive or pushing chokepoints that you know are defended to get kills rather than engaging people on your terms. Better to walk away and do something else for an hour or two than keep playing because your k/d per game will go down as you get more frustrated, which causes you to become more frustrated which causes you to make more mistakes, which makes you more frustrated and so on.

As far as team strategy goes, most maps in control are best won by keeping zone B and either A or C. Don't capture all 3 zones, as it spawns enemies randomly, but if you keep 2 zones, the enemy spawning points are predictable. What I do is usually run straight for B at the beginning.

If you play control, actually go for caps.. Don't be those guys who thinks its clash and just go for kills. Play as a team.
