I personally think that this will solve a lot of problems faced by those who enter the Trials. Too many are turned away because of the "pros" they face in their first few games. It would do the game, and the community, much better if games were created based on your current win/loss ratio on your Trials passage. This would allow those mediocre/bad at PvP to still have a chance at getting the smaller packages, while allowing the "tryhards/those being carried" to have a much harder time getting to the Lighthouse, as they would no longer be able to beatdown on those much worse than themselves.
Matchmaking, in essence, wouldn't be a problem if the above system was put into place. The matchmade teams would get destroyed by the premade, but most often only get matched with other matchmade teams because of their probable win/loss ratio. It would allow for those who struggle finding a team to get a taste of what Trials is like, and get better at PvP as a whole.
Also Bungie, please implement the Fate of All Fools and exotic sparrow, like you said. It would be interesting to have some more rewards to strive for.
Edit: But you HAVE to have a mic in order to queue for it.

Great concept but you should only be able to go 9-0 once then that character is done for that week!

3 RepliesThis is a very interesting topic of discussion and one I've been reluctant to form an opinion on because I've only played trials once. I do think from everything I've read this is an interesting take on it. I like that you're trying to find a middle ground for matchmaking while finding a solution to endless buzzsaws, but I think Miley offers up the biggest issue in that the buzzsaw teams will want better rewards. I still think the quickest solution to ToO would just be to always have regular Elimination available to play in normal Crucible to learn the mode and find players we mesh with. I will offer this and ask what those who've gone to the lighthouse feel. What if players who've been to the lighthouse that week are just put in a separate pool against others who've gone? If you have a mixed team, you're matched against other teams with at least one lighthouse person. I don't see how that isn't fair. If you've gotten there once in the week vs regular competition, you should be up for the higher challenge to go again. Thoughts?

1 ReplyHeh I did it a few weeks ago and I think we went 0-9. Got absolutely destroyed by people in full trials gear with adept weapons. Not wasting my time fighting hardcore pvpers
-
3 RepliesThere already is a system like this in place. It's called the crucible. Trials is for people who are experienced in the crucible. Trials shouldn't change to accommodate players with little experience in PVP. Players need to practice and get better. Instead of running that raid for the ten billionth time, man up, go to the crucible and improve until you're ready.

If we are petitioning for matchmaking based on your win/loss ratio on your current card, I don't have a problem. What I would have a problem with is skilled based matchmaking. "You don't want skill based matchmaking because you you know you have to face actually good players." The above statement probably is your first response so let me address it here. Yes and no. Yes in the fact that I would have to face people of my skill level. People who have 1.7 KD's or a 33 DTR (most people have around 20). And to be completely honest with you, I don't think I'd like going against people as good as me for 7,8 or 9 games. It would take an ascension of my skill level to get to the lighthouse, then I'd be thrusted into a higher pool. And I either will get wrecked or succeed and go higher and higher until I'm playing with people who are obviously better than me. And proceed to get destroyed game after game. No in the fact that while it will be a challenge, I'm up for it. However If this was implemented, I'd only be on board if higher skill level players get better rewards than lower skill level players. This is the only fair course if this system was implemented. Currently, there is a skill level that your team must be in order for that team to go to the lighthouse. Since matchmaking is random, I'm fine with someone of Lower skill getting the same rewards because they have to meet a definite line of skill against the same pool as me. But in the skill-based system, someone with a low DTR/KD would get the same rewards as someone with a high DTR/KD. Even though, one obviously had to fight much harder to get the same rewards. I have a problem with that. If I'm facing players on par with Triplewreck and True Vanguard while you are facing Smoggypluto, I'd like to have better rewards since I'm working twice as hard. Maybe different sets of armor for higher skilled players. They don't have to be better just different. Or maybe a different emblem. Just something to give those who actually work at their game.

1 ReplyDo you think there would be significant wait times in orbit for 8-0, 7-0s? Especially during non peak hours?

3 RepliesCurious. Though then wouldn't it make more sense to take the Flawless requirement off? If I tank hard enough and get matched with poor players for a while because of it, I should have no trouble getting back up to speed and scoring 9 wins in a row and getting to the Lighthouse. But the skilled players who are matched as such will cannibalize each other, making it unfair for someone to prey on noobs where someone of similar skill who didn't tank is getting beat about half the time by players he's actually matched with.

Bump. Interesting idea and though I haven't really played ToO, I've seen this issue brought up a lot. I think running regular Elimination would help to. Fate of All Fools not being in game yet is kinda mystifying. It would be nice to see it finally obtainable.

1 ReplyI think basing your matches off of how many wins/losses you have would be great. That way you will play against people who are let's say for arguments sake 1up or down from your win/loss on whatever card your currently doing. If your team is better and has been flawless a few time you should breeze through the first few wins and when you get to the higher numbers you would play agains people in the same category as you. I have been flawless maybe three times. And I have finally gotten a few regular teams I play with. And I could see this working.

1 ReplyExactly what I've been saying for weeks! It would be very tough for a matchmade team to run flawless (because of the pre-made stud teams floating around) but it would be possible to play and succeed while still facing a challenge and keeping it fun for those of us who don't have anybody we roll with regularly. I'm usually a BIG proponent of LFG for all game modes. It just doesn't work with Trials. Either people only want flawless players or ones with a ridiculously high KD, or if you do find a group, you're the only ones you face who aren't clearly a Trials pre-made team.
-
12 RepliesI feel like there should be 2 different categories, those who have gone flawless and those who haven't. That way if you haven't gone flawless then you would face off against others who also haven't. I feel like its simple enough to work
